Got Un. South Carolina's Palmetto Health program by snail mail today but no ERAS or email message...strange but I was excited nonetheless. I think it is a very underrated super-solid program from what I have learned about it.

Cancelled Cincinatti today, and likely cancelling Penn State next. Not that I don't want to check it out but I can't fit it in between two others I simply cannot miss.

Indy called today and told me that I had scheduled an interview without being invited. After a long, several phone conversations later, they apologized and we laughed about it.

SE United States programs need to get off their a$$es and start inviting!! I have an entire week dedicated to NC, SC, Ga, and Florida but they are moving at record slow paces it seems. And where is the Chicagoland love, and the West? Maricopa you out there? UC Davis, you out there?

It wouldn't be a REAL pissing contest (thats what it is, isnt it?) without stating that so far I'm 22/38 (59%)

(technically 22/37 cause I was careful enough to NOT erase Charity/New Orleans from my list)

For all you people with lists as long as the Declaration of Independance, how many programs did you apply to?! (Not that I have room to talk with 38).

wow....there is a reason not to post....I really don't like to make people nervous/jealous/whatever....haha, cute though. been following this site for awhile to gadge who has what in terms of interviews (basically drive myself nuts seeing if people got places I applied to). I applied to 36 programs, not b/c I had to but b/c I don't know where I want to live. I received 15 interviews. I'll be the first to say I don't get this process. why are people being rejected from Duke???? I may not even keep that interview. it is bizarre to me that they can already do rejections. no rejections yet but haven't heard from some that I thought I would have by now (probably wasn't helpful that "my dean's letter" that went to programs was somebody elses instead). but hey, penn and jeff gave me interviews anyway---just as long as they have my picture....hehe. but no love from christiana. would like some love from utah too (i have a winter sports fetish).

Thanks for the interesting perspective... 🙄
Personally I use this thread to get an idea of what programs are actually sending out interview invites.

Cheers.

My places listed were never meant as a "pissing contest". Even when there was a little bit of an uproar a couple/three weeks ago about everyone making lists, I offered to stop, but others said it was helpful to be able to go on and see which places have sent out invites without having to read through the now 18 pages that exist.

Truthfully, I stated before when this was brought up that if its gonna turn into a "pissing contest" then I'll stop posting my list.

And, I've told the board how many I've applied to, and the circumstances in which i did it, so feel free to look earlier on this thread.

tell me about it...i got my first rejection late september. and they didn't even bother to DOWNLOAD my scores.Only looked at the CAF. I guess their screening algorithm is really sophisticated.

Like CS i offered to stop but since i applied to almost all of the programs due to "personal reasons" now that my personal situation is clearing up, I only needed to apply to about 68 of the programs. I have heard from almost 40 programs ill post an update tomorrow as I am right now visiting my folks and the wireless internet is spotty. I concur on Duke I prob would have cancelled anyhow. Kind of funny. Highland said that they interview less that 25% of the applicants. Seems crazy! I also use this site to keep my list in order. Good luck peeps. Im not trying to stir up any worry.

I find the posts by everybody extremely useful. If you view this as a pissing contest, you are free to move on to more important things.

However, if I were unfortunate enough to have few to no interviews at this point (could have easily happened with one bad shelf exam score or evaluation comment), I would rather know where I stand so I could start contemplating my next steps. Its better to start planning for a possible scramble now rather than 2 days before the match. For these people, I am also being extremely quick in cancelling interviews at programs that I will not be able to interview at.

Good luck to everybody, and keep those interview announcements coming!

I would also like to thank everyone who's posting and encourage them to keep it up. I will be applying next year and it helps to see the progression of when alot of the programs that I'm interested in give out their interviews.

If nothing else, this will be a great thread to help us catch those nasty pathologists and their # of postings... 😉

Hey dudes, I will be the first person to admit that I have found this thread very helpful during this process (although at times a bit anxiety provoking). I am grateful for everyone's posts.

However, as I mentioned, there may be people who jump on this board and see super long lists of interview invites...I thought it might make people (including myself) feel better to know how many programs these people applied to.

In retrospect, posting how many programs you applied to and how many you are getting makes this MORE of a pissing contest. I know it doesnt bother me to see people's list composed of places I never applied to...I guess the real kick in the arse is to see places that I DID apply to and have not heard from. HOWEVER I understand that the whole point of this thread is to see what PLACES are offering interviews, not WHO is getting them. (A little advice for myself included).

I heard advice from a member of the Residency Review Committee that 96% of applicants matched in EM. Also the average applicant ranked 10 places.

That quote is accurate from the US grad (MD or DO - EM is pretty inclusive). The best advice I heard was not to interview at or rank more than 10 because if you didn't place within your top ten then there are likely some serious deficiencies in your application.

I don't think people interview at more than 10 places necessarily to ensure a match. I don't really sweat matching but I do sweat choosing the wrong place. I for one want a great program with good EMS interaction, in a small city, and I really don't care if there is a ton of trauma or not. But I want to be able to go academic when I am done should I choose, and I don't want to be working 21-22 12 hour shifts per month. I also want a place where public schools are excellent, and where housing is relatively cheap. Add all that together and its tough to be sure you are finding the right place. And since the websites provide limited data, I feel compelled to interview at as many places as I can endure to make sure I am making an educated decision.

Any reason you crossed the Philly programs off the list? Family? National Geographic Traveler (Oct 05) just listed Philly as a great new rebirth city, on the comeback and culturally stronger than ever!

This of course from a guy born and raised in the south...South Philly that is!

Dr. S.. Actually I did undergrad in PHL (at Penn) and I love the city, my best friend is also there and I still have a lot of great friends there. It is a city I would love to end up at. The reason is family/wife. I have nothing but great things to say about Philly and Penn as well although I can honestly say my only experience at the Penn ED was as a patient which is never fun 🙁

Hope this answers your Q. BTW I went to Morimoto's with my best friend and that was an awesome meal, but I dont know if it can compare to Pat's or Abner's Steaks.. which are my favorite.. Thinking of this is making me hungry..

I see quite a few people on here with Detroit programs on their lists.

For those of you who would like a little insight into Detroit area programs, I posted a novel about some of the Detroit programs as I understand them as a local Detroit med student. It is under the thread Wayne State DMC Vs. Sinai Grace.

Is it appropriate to send out letters of interest to programs we have not yet heard from regarding an interview? i.e. those we are really interested in, or to those in far away places that it may not be assumed that we would attend.

thanks
