Retaking....last August MCAT = 33P (12BS, 9V, 12PS)

CBT3 (10BS,11V,12PS)
CBT4 (11BS,10V,12PS)
CBT5 (11BS, 9V, 12PS)

TPR 4110: (11BS, 9V, 10PS)
TPR 4120: (10BS, 9V, 11PS)
TPR 4130: (11BS, 7V!!!, 11PS) BOOO
TPR 4140: (11BS, 8V!!!, 12PS) BOOO

Taking a practice test every other day until test date with a real AAMC every tuesday

Kaplan Diag: 23
Kaplan FL1: 34
Kaplan FL2: 36
Kaplan FL3: 34
Kaplan FL4: 35
Kaplan FL5: 38

TPR 8: 29 (10 9 10)

AAMC 3: 33 (13 10 10)
AAMC 8: 31 (13 8 10)

i'm aiming for a low to mid 30, with hopefully 10 in each section at least. i'm worried about verbal...

Kaplan scores seem way overblown so i don't really trust them and TPR was just insane (i think i'm going to stay away from their FLs now)

I'm taking a practice test once this week and next week, and then i'm taking a few AAMC the final week. I might mix in a Kaplan or 2 if i have time. I'm busy practicing verbal with EK (I just got the book!) and i'm reviewing BS now (mainly memorizing hormones, etc)

this is going to be my first time taking it. Are most of you retakers?

Not to dissuade you, but you are in a very risky situation! Is the 9V really killing your app? You stand a good chance of dropping in the sciences, and your practice verbals haven't gone up..You have a good composite score, why retake?

i would totally NOT retake either... the chances of your verbal going up are good, but the chance that either of your sciences will drop is probably the same.

yes but I think I can do better. haha....For the schools I want to go to, a 9 in verbal won't really cut it. Many have avgs like 11 11 11 where even though my sciences are higher, a 2pt difference in verbal really won't give me a good chance.

Sounds like you're going for top 20, so what the heck, take a shot! I'd take CBT9 and/or 10 within 2 weeks of the test date..Those tests will likely mirror your real score (they did for my two scores). If you fall under 30 on those practice tests, I would consider not retaking. Good luck!

haha thanks for the encouragement...I'll do it for you!

Everyone has been saying that it's not practical but I thought I'd try. You take it only this period during your life right? Mind as well make the best of it.

I would have loved to get a 33P on my first shot.

You might bump up the verbal and lose a point in one of the sciences or both.

Risky, but without great risk there is no great reward!!

You want it; go get it. I will take a 30 all day long as long as I get 8 or higher in each section.

Kaplan 3 (9PS, 12V, 10B = 31)
Kaplan 8 (8PS, 13VR, 9B = 30)
Kaplan 9 (10PS, 6VR, 8B = 24)
Kaplan 7 (10PS, 10VR, 12B = 32)
AAMC 6 (10PS, 9VR, 8B = 27)

I scored a (7PS, 6VR, 9B = 22) on the real thing April 16th. I am really hoping for a good score July 24th. Im gonna take AAMC 10 in 2 weeks.

That's my fear!!

What do you think when wrong on test day? Also, this time around have you done more AAMC tests?

J Dub,

I took all of the AAMC exams (besides 7 and 10) when preparing for April 16th. So unfortunately I have to take less AAMC this time around then last.

Whatt went wrong?

Umm well I think I might have burnt out a bit towards the last 2 weeks before the exam. I was trying to study 10 hours a day, trying to do too much basically. So I sort of sensed this and took 3 days off before the real test. I think it was too late though.

As for actual test day- I think I rushed the passages too much, sort of in a panic that I would not finish the sections. I finished Physical sciences and bio with about 15 minutes to spare. Although verbal I seemed to time perfectly and that turned out to be my worse section. So this time around I am writing down my time for each passage and set of discretes in order to keep better track of time.

- lets hope my second time is much better than the first

How many weeks before the actual MCAT would be a good idea to start taking FLs? 4 weeks?

taking it on Aug 20th... I have all the FLs + Kaplan ones..

Indeed, hope it goes better next time!!

I try to time myself after three passages. I move usually fast enough so it has not become that big of an issue yet. I just need to get better at PS.

Just took AAMC 6R
PS: 13 VR: 12 BS: 13

must be luck there's no way i broke a 10 on VR

Did you find the PS section easier than other AAMC PS sections?

I thought there was alot of Gchem and helped my score out more than it should accurately reflect with more Physics.

Hi I was wondering if anyone had advise on how I should divide up my time in this last 20 days before the test. I have only taken one practice test so far after having only reviewed physics and scored a 10V 10P and 8B on AAMC 3. I have yet to review organic, biology, gen chem or verbal. However, I already have some knowledge about gen chem so I did not miss that many questions on the practice test. My organic chem is horrible, I pretty much have forgotten everything but my biology is decent since I have taken quite a few upper division bio classes recently. I would also like to take at least 4 more AAMC practice exams for sure AAMC 8-10 but I am not sure which AAMC test to take other than these if anyone could suggest one. Is it more important that I thoroughly review the material or that I take as many practice exams as possible. Also I am alotting very little time to study verbal and am saving it for the last week before the test is this a bad idea? Anyways... thanks for the suggestions

I suggest get on the ball and review all the material until you feel comfortable and then work on the practice exams. Maybe work one practice exam in to judge your progress.

Your verbal is strong so I think you can wait. I score a consistent 11 on EK and AAMC so I am focusing less on that section too.

If you put in a good 4-6 hrs a day and do some practice problems, you should get close to a 30-32. Although AAMC 3 is one of the easier practice tests so be aware!! Study hard and then practice hard.

30, over and over and over, the same freakin score! (On the real AAMC tests.)

Is there an official July 24th MCAT freak out thread yet? 🙂

Kaplan 6

P 9, VR 10, B 7 = 26

bah- I hate the mcat.

I thought I totally bombed Verbal- It might have gotten into my head for Bio. Ugh...I feel like Kaplan full lengths are nothing like AAMC exams. And for some reason I never feel good about good sections, yet I still get upset about the bad sections...I can never win.

no...are we freaking out already?

Well, not entirely freaked out. But with this + applying to med school + internship + recovering from surgery... well, I'm kind of getting there. Heh. We'll see how I do on my practice test that I'm taking in an hour or so.

AAMC 8
PS 13 VR 10 BS 11
AAMC 7
PS 13 VR 10 BS 13
I am not sure whether they were easier than TPR tests or not because I never got higher than 31 in TPR.
One more thing, I did the AAMC paper versions..I am trying to save some money.

I took a practice test yesterday, fully expecting a 30 like I've been getting in practically every other one.
Nope.
Got a 27.
Did I mention this is one point LOWER than my initial diagnostic score?

Off to go shoot myself.

It was the AAMC official one, number 8.

Yeah, I think I was having a lot of trouble concentrating that day. I'm gonna try to call it a fluke, and also feed off the fear to study even better from now on.
It's also made me appreciate that 30 a lot more. Haha.
PS. I'm not a dude, but I totally welcome being called a dude. 🙂

Most people's scores jump up or down a couple of points depending on the test. Sometimes you get what you like; sometimes you don't.

I would take several more before I begin to worry.

Always study hard for a test like May 31st!!

So what are you guys doing from now (2 weeks out) to the test?

I was planning on just doing passages and taking two more full lengths.

your going to do ALL of kaplan's section and topical tests? Won't that take.....forever?

haha maybe...but 2 weeks = 14 x 24 = 336 hours? I'm not going to do the Gchem and there aren't that many for orgo. I'm using it as review so hopefully it won't really take me the whole time.

Damn I'm on my 1st 10 min break for AAMC 7 and the PS rocked me!

about 4 EK101 tests and 4 AAMC tests

i'll spend a some time going over the straight memorization stuff - hormones, valves, etc

I just took AAMC 6: 10PS, 10VR, 13BS = 33 (i thought PS was weeeird on this test)

Not taking till Aug. 9th but thought I would post anyways...

KL Diag: 7/7/4 - 18 (ouch, bad scores)
KL FL1: 9/7/10 - 26
AAMC 3: 11/10/10 - 31
AAMC 5: 11/11/11 - 33

Doing CBT 6 tonight...hoping for the trend to continue.

Definitely a HUGE improvement from Bio on my diag (have not taken Bio yet), but still noticing that BS is pretty rough.

All I know is that Kaplan tests are rough (subject, topical, FL) and I hope they arent very representative of the MCAT. Good practice, but they kill (especially the kaplan verbal).

Yea, kaplan is certainly not good for my ego...

vicinhil,

you plan on studying 14 hours a day? do you think thats risking burnout or no? Cause I think I went a little overboard for the april 16th test, I was going to sort of take it easy these last 2 weeks...

I'm not sure how intense the studyn should be you know.

haha the 14 was for the 2 weeks I have left (7 days a week) not for the number of hours in a day =P

but...I usually do around 12-14 a day leaving 10 hours for dicking around, sleeping, and eating so it wouldn't be much of a change. I'm hoping to not have to spend as much time going over wrong answers since hoepfully I won't have many at this point!

Damn just did the verbal on AAMC 7...got rocked too
