Hey there everyone! Figured I'd start this thread since I recently started preparing for the June 18th MCAT. For those of you who are taking the June 2nd MCAT, June 18th MCAT, or still considering one of those two dates, feel free to post here with any questions, comments, concerns, or support you have to offer!

Good luck to you all! Let's crush it.

Yeah, I am an URM so I will be applying to the HBCU's as well. Howard, Morehouse, and Meharry. But you definitely don't have to be an URM to apply to those schools just as long as you have an interest in underserved populations.

Do you already have a list together with some low-tier, mid-tier and reach schools?

Oh I didn't know you didn't have to be a URM. The nonprofit I started works very closely with the underserved population. Maybe I will apply. You should be fine though- I believe Meharry has a 24 MCAT average? And I'm sure you will do much better than that.

I applied TMDAS so all TX schools. Out of state schools are really hesitant about TX schools since they assume everyone will go to one. I have like 10 OOS schools- Rush is a big one since I have an extremely high amount of service hours.

Oh yeah, Texas is definitely known for liking their own so that can be tough with OOS schools. I actually want to move to Texas lol. But you should definitely apply to schools that are big on community service especially since you started your own nonprofit. That's pretty cool. && Rush is also at the top of my list. Love that school!!!

Off topic, but what bio classes are counted in bcpm? 3 neuro classes (psych but crosslisted with neuro and my advisor said they should count), research bio classes, and environmental bio classes were not included. By bcpm is not super great now. And the only way to get them included is to submit syllabi and all the deans convene and make a decision. This could take up to 6 weeks....... So i'm taking a 12 credit post bacc in the fall to bump my gpa up, and just wondered if you guys think forensic bio would be included hah

Is anyone here a non-trad or someone that already graduated undergrad? I'm a little concerned about being older than most of my peers in med school 🙁 because if this cycle doesn't work out for me (which is very likely) I will have to begin med school at 24…it's silly, but it's kinda bothering me. I never, ever imagined I would be the one to take two gap years, so I'm feeling inferior to the 21-22 year olds who managed to do all this perfectly the first time lol
also doesn't help that I'm Asian, so it's like a stigma in my community to take time off

Just wondering if anyone has been in my place, and if you have any suggestions on how to deal? 🤔

Age should be the last thing you are concerned about, unless you're pushing 50+ and even then some would say that's not too old. I'll be starting medical school at 29.

I tend to avoid confrontation haha. I just ignored that person, although I should work on being more aggressive. Do you think we will be alright on CARS then? I was scrolling through the June 2nd results, and everyone that thought they did well on CARS ended up it being their worst section. Would you mind telling me your Scored? I got a 130 on CARS and there were 2 passages that tripped me up. This one had about 2 questions that were difficult. But here I am getting way overconfident and then i'll see 124 on my score report. :arghh:

I wouldn't even call it aggression. People who troll like that deserve to be told what they do is unacceptable and just plain cruel. Alas, this site is a breeding ground for such things.

AAMC Scored CARS: 128 (with about 6 questions that I was 50/50 on and chose the wrong one) But I will say this: I really don't think any of us are in a position to know how we did. I know that I spent copious amounts of time doing what I was supposed to do well- content review, multiple practice exams with thorough review of my mistakes, etc. This exam is the first of MANY exams to come in our career. You've gotta have confidence. Other peoples stats are not your own! 🙂

Should I retake a 3rd time if it's low (sub 500) or go to the Caribbean?

N=1, but here on SDN there is a big stigma against taking the test 3 or more times. This is my second time, and I was nervous about taking it a third time. I talked to a adcom member who is a family friend (respected MD state school) who said over HALF the class took it twice, and they interviewed more people than ever who took it three or four times. He said that he looks at the dedication, and as long as they improve it's not held against them. I know the adcoms on here make it seem like "omg three times? You're done for". But really, not all schools are like that. It helps that the adcome I talked to is from a school that only considers the highest. He said they look at previous scores just to make sure they are lower than the final score. Again, n=1, but also remember that this a new test. IMO, this should count as the first time taking the exam because it is so different than the old.

I am a non-traditional grad. I stayed at my undergrad for an extra semester and then took two years off to do a post bac program. So you definitely aren't alone. There are tons of people who are non-trad who apply. Please don't feel bad! Things happen ... it's life but we will get to the finish line!

I have two gap years! I might not apply this year either. So maybe three.

Med school isn't a competition, seriously. It is a career- a part of your life. Take the gap years to challenge yourself and mature and do interesting things. I am doing a postbac research gig that is teaching me a lot (and convinced me not to do mdphd!) F

Haha I'll be 29 with 2 kids, some schools have more non trad students with higher average age, if it's something that worries you, you can apply to more of those schools. I like being older with more experience and think it will only help me in clinicals.

I think it's absolutely amazing that you are doing this while being a parent!! You already have the hardest job in the world so medicine should be a piece of cake for you!

I have made peace with getting between a 500-507. I feel kind of bad knowing I'm a person that studied my butt off for 5 months and still will not break a 508, but I can't do anything else about it. There is no way I did well, considering CARS scale is ridiculous, C/P I guessed on 3/4 of them, biology everyone thought was easy so the scale will be crazy, and even though I was a psych major, I'm sure P/S went poorly as well. It's kind of a relief to accept my score and try and figure out what to do next.

Hey how did it convince you not to do MDPHD?

Assuming I get in this cycle, I'll be 29 when I start. Wish I were younger, but personally, I wouldn't have been able to go through this in my early 20s, so it is just the right time for me. 24 is definitely nothing to worry about, and in a few years, won't matter at all.

To celebrate u getting ur score?

Celebrating getting a "good" score haha. I did really well on standardized tests in high school, but I told them the MCAT is totally different. My best friend doesn't believe me because I did really bad on my practice PSAT but ended up being National Merit. She thinks the MCAT is the same thing and I'm like "no girl it's not".

Does anyone know what % correct corresponds to a 129 on each section on the scored test? I won't be taking the MCAT for a while but just curious to see what ballpark I need to eventually hit. Thanks in advance!

I am a non-traditional. Former teacher doing a post bacc and will be 29 when I start med school (hopefully if I get accepted this round). I would love to be 24 and starting lol. Don't worry, I think it is even an advantage to some admission committees.

I'm on a medical trip in Central America and might not have Internet access until late at night Tuesday. Eff.

I've been trying my best to stay positive, regardless of the score I've earned. I listen to reggae often, and one line from the song "Don't Worry Be Happy" keeps ringing in my head. Figured I'd share it with any else freaking out. "In every life we have some trouble But when you worry, you make it double."
Keep hanging in there my friends.

what was the % correct for a 125 on the scored practice aamc fl for the chem/physics and bio sections?
does anybody know?? I haven't taken it yet. Just curious

To save myself the trauma of score anxiety, I went through this entire month without once coming back here or even thinking too hard about the test. Now that it's almost here, I'm back because I need to be with my peers to cope. Misery certainly craves company. >_< Best wishes and the greatest scores to everyone!

Your profile pic rocks, I love Disney. Wow, if only we were at Disney world to get these scores. No one is unhappy at disney world.

Remember that whatever happens tomorrow, you have achieved a lot more than you think. Follow your dreams and don't let a single score prevent you from achieving your goals. If your goal is to get into Harvard, apply. With so many variables coming into play, anything is possible. That is the beauty of our admission process. Aren't we glad that we live in America where our dreams are not determined by a single score!

I recommend having your parents or friends open the scores if you are too terrified like me.

I have to be the first person to see my score. :/ I don't think I could handle someone else seeing it first.

I was thinking of having my mom or boyfriend tell me my scores but I think I am going to open them myself too. I think them doing it might make it worse for me. Lol.
