couldnt fit it all in the title, but has anyone gotten rejected by a school and thought they had stats way too high for them to get rejected?
Name the school and tell us your stats and maybe even why you think you got rejected. I'm bored, I know.

I was rejected from Harvard, they told me that I was over qualified...go figure.

I have a very good DAT score and good grades and I have not even got an interview at UoP. I guess I am missing the phone call recommendations from a big donor.

it seems like this is what everyone says who can't get an interview at UoP...maybe they just didnt base their decisions off DAT and grades, I didn't get in there either despite being the proud donor of ten dollars...wtf?

UOP tries to fill their class pretty early on...so I think to have a chance there you have to apply pretty early. I applied late, so although I love the school, and I know I have the stats they're looking for, I don't think be hearing from them.

First relevant post. I'm not bitter... maybe just a bit... Temple rejected me straight out.

Yep, temple gave me a flat out rejection...a little bitter as both of my sisters went to med school there. oh, and i got interviews from columbia, pitt, nyu and stonybrook.

It isn't just about stats...sometimes people kill their chances during their interview.

For Example
The question was: Why would you like to become a dentist?
The answer: because my parents told me to become a dentist, i dont really like it but dentistry is what they want me to do. I think it sucks. I don't like having to think i just like memorizing and executing. I really just want to be an actor but they said there is no future for me there.

Do you know what the outcome of the interview was?? rejected/accepted

You got it right that person was rejected.

hehe! that's pretty funny!

I got an interview at every school I applied to except ASDOH which cashed my check and swiftly sent a rejection...strange

another funny one:

-In the unlikely chance that you do not get accepted in dental school, what would you do?
-Uhhh...umm
-No, no, we're not saying that you wont get in...but what would you do?
-I would apply to law school and become a lawyer coz my mom is a lawyer and I like the environment and this is something I could do in life...but if I really wanted to do that, I'd apply for law school, not dental school.

So what was the outcome of this intereview? acceptance or rejection

Oh yes..plain flat rejection!

what if the person had a 4.0 and had a perfect DAT, 7,000 hours of dental experience, and both parents and 3 sisters were alumni's of the school who donates a substantial amount of $$$ a year....or what if the person was the president's son

Just got my generic rejection letter from Florida U 🙁 . It seems they prefer in staters. Its ok cuz its not even close to my top choice. I shall post it on predents.

stupidity is a big thing to overlook. Maybe he'll be on the waiting list (last one on the waiting list)

I was flat out rejected from Florida as an in-stater with above average stats. However, I only have about 70 or so shadowing hours and most of those in specialty practice. They told me at my interview (insisted, actually, despite my argument to the contrary) that I didn't know why I wanted to be a dentist "in my heart" because I didn't have much GP shadowing. Nevermind my 28 bio -- they would prefer someone who might fail out over someone who (in their minds) might drop out. And I might be more inclined to drop out because I don't already know what they're supposed to teach me in dental school?? I don't get it...

And yes, I am bitter. Now I have to live a plane trip away from my girlfriend of 5 years until she graduates from UF and I have to pay twice as much for dental school. Their loss.

I feel ya man. We both have similar stats, but you beat me by ALOT in their eyes since you're a resident. I think they're making huge mistakes to offer those with much lower stats than you just because they "think" you're not ready for dentistry. How could they gather this from a 20 minute 1 on 1? I myself had over 90 hours in the dental field with GP's at the time of my app, including chair assisting, and didnt even get an interview there.

Uf dental usually takes half of their class from UF because everyone knows that UF is the top public school in the state, and on top of that, we have the hardest undergraduate sciences courses in the state. I have personally seen tests and science material from other universities in Florida and the only one that gives UF competition is University of Miami. That is it. So if you only have a 3.0-3.4 GPA from billy bob university with a major in Religion or Candle Lighting..you are not getting in.

Thanks for the kind words. I will, however, guarantee you a few things. First of all, my (perfect) grades were not the reason I was not accepted to UF. Second, your isolated experience with other schools differs completely from my own, myself having taken the majority of my classes at both UNF and UF. UF was not the superior school that everyone in Gainesville makes it out to be -- in fact, it wasn't even that good.

The fact is, UF considers itself to be the "top public school in the state" which, unfortunately, automatically excludes some top applicants. Someone in my class with just shy of a 4.0 and a 36 MCAT didn't even receive an interview at UF med and my advisor said that their students are regularly shafted by the snots in Gainesville. Which is fine. Their perogative. But it's based on mistaken impressions.

PS -- I was a religion and philosophy major. Top most difficult major at my school. No where near the cake-walk that my science classes have been.

PPS -- U of Miami is private.

you are a typical UF student....reinforces my choice to attend FSU over UF 🙄

What about ivy leaguers with 3.0 GPA versus UF students with higher GPA? Which GPA is superior?

just break it off. there are plenty in NY.

HAHA! Seriously, I know. Probably makes the most sense but I've never been the one to make things easier on myself. We're going to at least try it out and see how it works -- even New York doesn't have too many hotties that compare with this one.
