I'm so excited for the beach party today! See everyone there! 😎
Party was great. How did everyone like the performance by Malpractice? Big Nasty rawks on bass! I think we may have actually gone thru all 5 kegs. Plasticman isn't feeling so hot today... :barf:

Hey, is it too late to get into the research at nycom for the summer? I honestly didnt want to think about until after the test, maybe that was a mistake?

The deadline for research application was middle of april? It was at least a month ago. I'm not sure if they have any more spots but e-mail Pat Jacovina. You also need t contact someone that you want to do research with first.

Unfortunately, it's probably too late. The deadline was for the committee to meet and decide which research projects to greenlight. Those of us they have approved already, they have told the professor we're working with that we have been approved pending the final test grade of the year. With all this being said, I would still contact Pat Jacovina and ask if they have any spots open; you never know.

Anyone view the 16 hour online videos for NYCOM summer research? Pat told me that we would get more info once grades were finalized.
I can't access the videos yet. I do know that we will not be officially notified that we have been approved for research until the final grades are in. I think they will actually wait till after the retake, b/c if someone they approved doesn't pass the retake, then that spot will go to someone else in line. The professor you will be working with has probably already been told whether or not you've been approved pending final test score.

I did not realize we had that link in noodle. I was thinking we were going to do the video on NYCOM Movies website. Maybe it is the same thing with quizzes integrated.

Ski2Doc,

definitely give Pat Jacovina an email/phone call. It would be nice to be paid for research but there are unpaid opportunities as well. Many PDs that lectured at our school welcomed NYCOM students to visit. If you contact them they may be able to put you on a project. If you are interested in a certain field you may want to look to see if a PD lectured the 1st or 2nd years.

Once in the program try to find a senior resident/attending/PD that will help you get your project started. Hopefully they already have been through the IRB process at the instution you are in.

Anyone know how to setup POP access to our NYIT email accounts? I just got a new windows mobile phone and can't login thru the website, so I wonder if I can access it thru POP access. Anyone ever attempt setting it up?

I have access to the videos in Noodle. Is it not working for everyone else?

Also, unfortunately NYCOM's e-mail is not POP compatible. I asked Kumar about this earlier in the year. With all the technology they have you'd think that they would have made e-mail POP compatible.

Also...has anyone ever heard of this restaurant La Bottega. There's one in garden city and another one just opened near my parents in Merrick.

http://www.ilovepanini.com/panini.html

If you look down at that menu, one of the sandwiches is called "The NYCOM". I was wondering if anyone knew if this had to do with the school.

Anyway, the sandwiches are amazingly good. Just thought I'd pass it along.

Yea, what's taking them so long for the grades.

Despite the IT dept's denial of POP compatibility, the incoming server mymail.nyit.edu defiinitely works when receiving mail in microsoft outlook. I have used it all year. However, sending mail does not work using mymail.nyit.edu as the server. It probably would work using a different port but I don't know which one and it would be too hard to guess. What you can do is use your primary ISP outgoing server address, in my case its mail.optonline.net.

As for a windows mobile smartphone, the incoming server is still mymail.nyit.edu. Sending mail is a little bit harder. You will need to use a different POP email account for sending. I use gmail and when people receive mail sent from my smartphone it says from "[email protected] sent on behalf of [email protected]". In the outgoing server box you would use, for gmail, smtp.gmail.com:465. Then you have to check the box that the outgoing server requires authentication. Next in the outgoing server settings you can specify a different username and password for your outgoing server which would be your username and password for gmail. Theoretically, this will work using any POP enabled email account as long as you have the proper server address, however, I do not guarantee that the on behalf of [email protected] will be included with any service other than gmail. I hope that was clear enough. Good luck.

Also, one last thing. POP access would have to be enabled in the settings of gmail which can easily be done from the website. Don't forget to do that.

Yeah, I got it working with GMAIL already; thanks for the info.

Wow they must have dropped a ton of anatomy questions because theres no way I scored as high as I did! I took the exam on the third day of having a fever and stomach virus and it was one of my highest scores yet!! 😎

Bye Anatomy!! 😀

I have jury duty tomorrow morning. :barf:

Does anyone know if they try to put you with one case and you don't match they send you home? i don't want to make $40/day staying there 830am-5pm

I got out of my jury duty ahead of time that was supposed to also start this week as well.

Um, if you get sent home you still get your 40 bucks. When they question you, be very opinionated and odds are they'll send you home. Be smart depending on what cases they try you for. If it's like a mugging or something, say you were mugged a few years ago and you think muggers should get life in prison. Stuff like that. Lawyers will send you home for sure.

Hey guys is anybody here from DPC program? I just wanted to ask how schedule looks like...Also do you know someone from DPC program who took COMLEX already? Do DPC people take the same tests as people from Lecture Based Program?

Thanks a lot!!!!!

I think NVShelat if the only DPCer on SDN.

Anyone else get a bogus email saying they missed an anatomy lab? Definately was there for the one they're saying I missed... it was the brachial plexus one I definately remember being there for that. Hell, I dissected most of it!

Taty:
1. Schedule - you're there 5 days/week. M,W,F group. T clinical practicum R clinical skills. Practicum doesn't start till February, until February you'll have ICC every week on Tuesdays. Somewhere in there is anatomy/OMM lab and some anatomy lectures you're responsible for. If there is no ICC, they will put in a problem set. There isn't much time off.
2. COMLEX - yes. He thinks DPC prepared him well for it, esp in Path. However, he said theres a ton of micro that DPC doesnt cover.
3. Lecture exams - somewhat. We take the anatomy and OMM portions of the lecture kids' written exams. They usually amount to like 10 questions or something. We also of course have to take the anatomy and OMM practicals, just like everyone else. What is separate is the content exam, which is a culmination of your learning issues.

Wow that is rediculous! Are you going to fight it? Luckily my group was in the far corner and we only got 3 quizes the entire year!

check your grades from that course to see if you have an I (incomplete). I missed an OMM lab and need to retake. I have "I" for Neuro because of that. Does not look like they updated Immuno and Integumentary grades.

Anyone doing the Noodle research course yet? I emailed the admin since I can't log in.

Nah. I'm DPC tho so mine probably looks different than yours. I emailed Dr Hill, we'll see what he says. The thing I'm wondering is how I got a letter saying I'm in good academic standing if I supposedly was incomplete in anatomy??

I got a letter stating I'm in good academic standing although I have an incomplete. You can still get the letter if you have incompletes from missing a lab as long as you don't go before the committee for missing too many labs and they say otherwise.

finally got into the Research web site. Apparantly you need to log in from the "All Courses" (for first time at least) page to sign up. I had it showing as a tab on the side when viewing other courses and could not log in from there.

So Dr. Hill shoots me an email and is like yo gimme a call we'll sort this out. I'm like aight, Bobby Hill is Chill I'll be good. So I call him, we exchange pleasantries, and he says so this was the brachial plexus lab right? and I say yup. I thinkin, Oh he'll just look it up in the records and I'll be straight.

Wham! What ventral rami contribute to the brachial plexus? What makes up the M in the brachial plexus? So you mentioned the musculocutaneous nerve... what does it innervate? Tell me something of clinical significance about one of the nerves you mentioned 😱:scared:

Anyway I told him My Aunt Raped My Uncle and he must've felt sorry for me and thought I had major issues. It all worked out. I have never been so thankful for that brachial plexus in 5 minutes thingy that was going around earlier in the year! :horns:

Disclaimer: MARMU = musculo, axillary, radial, median, ulnar = My Aunt Raped My Uncle.

I never learned that one. I just added to my First Aid. 😀

I still have to go to OMM in 2 weeks.

i literally can't believe that, especially from dr hill

You guys see the match list from 07? It's posted on the pre-DO forum under the Match List thread... as usual, we kicked ass. Harvard, Jackson Memorial, Baylor, Hopkins, Dartmouth, Christiana, Yale, NYU, of course Barnabus...bunch of neuro prelims, rads, plenty of GAS, surgery... solid all around.

Congrats to the kick ass class of 07!👍👍

Dartmouth-Hitchcock is a great hospital, but jeez...spending 3+ years of residency in NH with nothing to do and being too old to go to frat parties...you gotta pity the poor kid, haha.

That's an awesome match list

Path at Yale, NYU and Einstein...Elkowitz must be so proud! 👍

~25 Emergency Medicine matches makes me happy!! 😎

Also, one last thing. POP access would have to be enabled in the settings of gmail which can easily be done from the website. Don't forget to do that.

Does that make it possible to send Linda's emails to spam?

And now for the moment you'll all been waiting for... The chance to live with the one and only plasticman.:hardy:

We have a 3BR 2 floor duplex with a basement / garage / back patio about 10 min from NYCOM in Glen Cove. We live walking distance to downtown Glen Cove including a $10/month gym, public library, restaurants, MMA place, movie theatre, starbucks, etc. We're about 0.65mi from the LIRR station. Must love dogs! We have a very friendly, quiet, lazy 9 month old puppy who lounges around the house. NVShelat can vouch for the personality of the dog; he loves the pup! Rent for the room will be $550 or $600 depending on which room. (Utilities are not included and are split b/w us.) Shoot me a PM for more info.

Looks like Elkowitz is gonna be in charge of DPC next year. Well played Dean,...well played.

who was it before? I thought Elkowitz was somewhere at top in the DPC chain of command.

Dr. Hill is Anatomy chair. Does that make him a Professor?
I thought it was Portonova; maybe I was confused.

Everyone knew Dr. Hill was goiing to become chair. I don't know if he is still going to teach or not. I will find out...

Who cares about anatomy...we're done with it for the most part. We'll probably have only a few anatomy questions per exam as refreshers...

More importantly...with Elkowitz in charge of DPC does this mean he's not teaching us next year?

That was out of left field. I didn't know Portanova was going to give up that post; even then, Elkowitz was just a facilitator, I would've thought Hutak would get that position since she's more involved in DPC admin. But now that I think about it, it fits. Scandals moves Portanova over and gives him a plush position so he can get his boy into a director position. Doesn't want to raise too many eyebrows by getting him high up right away. Then after a couple years serving as DPC director, he'll get bumped up to dean or assistant dean of something or other.

Does this make me a conspiracy theorist??

Nope. Now who's laughing about the lochness monster? 😎

Does anyone else picture Elkowitz and Scandalis hanging out on Saturday nights bobbing heads together in clubs being all shady like the guys from saturday night live's "a night at the roxbury" skit? Or is it just me?

Yes. That club is the barefoot peddler. Seriously, they're regulars there.

Did anyone start doing the research videos yet?

I've completed the first video and most of it seemed to be gibberish. I can't read the screen when the guy starts using excel. Anyway, the 5 questions for the video were able to be answered after 20 minutes.

Are they only checking to see if we answer all our questions correctly? Can we watch the videos at fast forward speed or is this an issue for them?

hey guys
i just scanned the 2007 match list and was wondering what the people were doing that were just listed as
traditional internships w/out residencies. What happens to those people at the end of the year, do they try to match again or something?

I can't believe it but I am burned out on streaming videos!!

I'm going to FF a lecture and let you know.
