what was scott's e-mail?

Can someone either post it or send it to me as well?

also, does anyone have 2 years ago copies of the resp. and cardio exams they can PM me, not last year's, but 2 years ago?

not that it matters at this point, but I asked the tech guy why the lecture wasnt streamed and he said that the professor didnt want it streamed. They have the right to say no to being taped. Who knew?!

I thought that wasn't allowed because there is ICC during lecture, and that is mandatory. How is it fair to those students? If I was one of those students, i would be really mad.

Video is up! 😀

They can post stuff now because you have to have a password to access it. Everyone uses copywrited material. I don't think they can request to not have it streamed, because there is ICC during lecture, and so it's not fair to those people. Something probably got messed up w/ the stream. I think you're talking about dr. twist? We've had him too, but we had cataletto today.

we had a movie password too but it was totally up to the lecturer's discretion whether or not to be taped. dr. stepp was never streamed. and they scheduled icc during our classes also. just sayin...

but i see the video was put up now, so yay!

we had dr. twist for the neonatology lecture, that was it. the other guy wore his pants up to his armpits 👍

What was I doing all this time studying for the written exam? I should have been studying for the OMM pratical!!!! Have they lost their minds?

Well thats because BLT is bull**** and they have their panties all in a bunch because most of us go around laughing about how freaken dumb it is.

Have they lost their minds?

Now, I wonder if it had anything to do with Fischers lecture when ~40% of the class said they would transfer to an allopathic school without a doubt. And you think these new ever changing policies have anything to do with that?!

And to think at one point I used to enjoy OMM...

I thought you guys were exaggerating, but I just checked my email and all I gotta say is Wow. 😱 Looks like we're being punished for that. Maybe we should have sent the toxic basket award to the OMM dept. instead. 😀

And I guess the idea that previous classes fought so hard for - to never have any class/review scheduled from 12-1, went right out the window.

whoooaaaa what the heck is going on with this OMM thing?!!?

lumbar is the one with the funky doggie style thing right?

Ummm treatment modality is strictly OMM? Cuz I'm thinkin a drug or two might be more helpful than stretching his calves and jigglin his boobs..

Is there a written component to the OMM practical like there was last time??? Claire Bryant's email didn't say anything about it, just that there would be no anatomy.

This doesn't even surprise me anymore. I have come to expect the worst. And unfortunately, they hardly ever fail to deliver. I wanted to organize a student strike and picket in front of the buildings during their open house tomorrow, but I ran out of placards when I protested the cancellation of the family guy.

This OMM stuff is getting crazy. They must be out of their minds. I wouldn't care if it wasn't a huge part of our grade but the fact that if you fail OMM means you fail respiratory is absolutely ridiculous.

What is wrong with them.

Cervical diagnosis? Lumbar diagnosis?

This is getting out of hand.

Did anyone go to the review today? Any new info?

The new info from the review is the fact that the people grading us on the practical have no idea how to actually do the techniques properly themselves

i went to the review today the only "written" part is going to be where they give you a case and you have to figure out what your primary diagnosis is going to be, along with a secondary differential. then you have to pick an omm technique that you'd treat it with and explain your reasoning. one example yao gave was an ankle sprain...if you say youd do a pedal pump (apparently you can do that if the sprain isn't too severe or acute) to reduce the swelling because it'll allow better circulation of the lymph. and i think he also said you can mention other techniques that we've learned in the past such as counterstrain of the ankle, but they're gonna start asking questions as to why counterstrain would work. basically, just stick to the techniques he listed in the email to make your life easier b/c we'll be concentrating on what they are and how they work.

the other "written" part will be recording your diagnosis in proper osteopathic format like L4 E RR SR (or something to that effect)

that's what i can recall off the top of my head.

Usually OMM review is helpful. This one wasn't.

As far as anything written for the practical the template emailed to us is what we will get on exam day.

They showed us OA release for some reason.
Also be able to do BLT for ribs, cervical, lumbar, and throacic.

Hunter, thanks for the info....

could you please tell me as far as BLT for the Ribs, is there BLT for any ribs other than 1 and 12? that's all i remember learning...what if you get a dsyfunction in the middle ribs and they want u to do BLT?
thanks!!

you can do blt for 1-5. Thats where the patient is lying supine, and you have your fingers on the angles, and you traction, and have them turn their head until you feel movement twice (1st is soft tissue, 2nd is disengagement). For a single rib, u can put ur fingers on the spines of the vertebrae and the one above and traction, this will rotate to the other side, causing disengagement. we learned it last week/this week.

any of you guys know how to write osteopathic nomenclature for the rib?? thanks

seems like we abondoned naming things for their freedom. Should we be using restrictions for the written?

😕

i'm pretty sure we're supposed to name everything for the freedom (dysfunction).

Dr Ettlinger makes much more sense at twice the speed.

Question - for diagnosis, are we allowed to do the layered palpation technique, or do we have to do the traditional technique? My odds are the same at getting the diagnosis right, either way. 😳

does anyone know how the anatomy practical and OMM practicals will be combined? 50/50? will they even be combined? Last year u could hope for OMM to bring you up and this year it seems like the anatomy will be what boosts u.

The anatomy practical is 20% of the practical grade, the OMM quiz is 15% of the grade, and the practical itself is 65% of the grade.

Does anyone know if we have to pass each OMM practical individually or will the 2 practicals grades be averaged out??

I'm assuming individually...if they were averaged out and you failed both you'd fail both systems.

The omm from last test all goes toward cardio, and the OMM from this test all goes toward resp. They haven't said how it's going to work (it doesn't make sense for 1 practical to be 25% and 3 writtens only be 75%) but that's how it is until they tell us otherwise.

To add a positive note to our very active sdn forum -- Its awesome how active it is-- just going through it tonight it answered a lot of questions i had about this upcoming omm practical. 👍 good luck all!

Is thursday's AOA lecture by the AOA president mandatory for you guys (lecture based) as well?

When we got 14 emails in 1 day about this visit, I decided to erase them all so I have no idea

Yes, we're supposed to bring clickers. The good thing is "a healthy lunch will be provided." Healthy better equate to "tasty" as well.

what could they possibly do if you didnt show up? what a joke. they are resorting to fear tactics because it would be embarrassing of no one showed. i think it would be equally embarrassing if the president of the AOA actually watched them take attendance. there is no way that they will do it. personally, im insulted by the way they treat us like children. ill just put this in the column of reasons why i regret ever coming to this school and remember im going to be good at what i do in spite of them rather than because of them.

wow. im really pissed off at them. i didnt realize how much until now.

AGREED!

this is ridiculous...are we seriously going to be tracked on an ez-pass system. This now means we're actually going to have to sit through class in its entirety? What the ****. The clicker system was a pain in the ass enough, but at least there were ways around it. This is going to keep us locked in the system at all times. It's insane.

Don't put the RFID electronic leash in your pocket. I hear it will make you sterile.
