*~*~* Official Secondary Application Thread 2013-2014 *~*~*

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm not sure what I should aim for as far as length goes. I have only just started the ATSU-SOMA secondary, and it says to limit your response to 500 words or less. Should I make it a goal to be around 500 words, or if I feel like I answered the questions sufficiently in ~200 words, is that alright?

In the word of John Mayer, "say what you need to say."

Anyone do WCU secondary? I found this to be harder than most. Are they asking us to answer specifically to the top paragraph, or to the actual short question? I can't make much of why they are asking to respond to " lifelong learning, etc..." Don't we all have to take CEU as physicians?

How long did you guys have to wait to get your secondaries after you were verified? I was verified last Tuesday and only got one so far. It worries me a bit...

Has anyone compiled a list of schools that automatically send secondaries to all applicants, as opposed to schools that do some initial screening first?

I'm asking because I have a well-rounded application, but got a 24 on my MCAT :bang:. I just got verified and would prefer to start by filling out secondaries for schools that screen, and save secondaries for schools that don't screen, which I might not really have any chance of getting into, for later in the cycle.

Thanks in advance & good luck to everyone.

I have this same question essentially if anyone has any insight.

Also wondering if it's worth filling out secondarys this application cycle since it's already October 14th?

I would like to know as well. I know LUCOM and probably VCOM screen before sending secondary, but a list of all the schools that screen would be very helpful.

One of MSU's secondary essays asks "What is your approach to leadership and how do you plan to utilize this approach throughout medical school?" I was just wondering how do I go about answering this? How does a medical student show leadership?

An effective leader leads by example and encourages collaboration rather than simply dictates and delegates.

Hey guys, has anyone else been processed and everything and still no word on an interview after like a month??

Yes!
I am slowly adjusting to the waiting game. If you spend too much time here you will drown in a sea of self pity at all of the ii's others are appearing to get. Many of these people applied very early and had secondaries in at the earliest possible moments. Some applied after me, but I can not know the particulars of their applications. (EC's, essays, etc.)
I completed most secondaries about 5-6 weeks ago and have heard mostly crickets. I assume that this is a very heavy traffic period. Thankfully I haven't received any rejections or holds yet, and the few schools that I applied to that allow me to check my status still show that my app hasn't been reviewed yet.
I think my stats and my other factors make me a competitive candidate, hopefully the schools I applied to will feel the same. For now, all you can do is wait. My best advice is to continue to be patient and find something else to do other than stalk SDN. You will go nuts! (Disclaimer: I check this site like 20 times a day to see what others have going on.)

Please post all questions or information related to secondary applications here.

For information on secondary application fees, letters of recommendation, and other requirements by school, see the 2014 Osteopathic Medical College Information Book (PDF).

Good luck everyone!

Just curious, in general how long do these essays have to be? Is there a page or word limit?

Thanks
