This is the official score release thread for the May 2007 MCAT dates. Feel free to post serious information and announcements about the impending score release. You can post your scores in here when the time comes as well.

This post also serves as a warning to remind you guys that fake threads stating "SCORES ARE UP" will give you an automatic post hold for one week.

O, the irony. I remember walking out of that test feeling like I bombed PS and did pretty bad on bio. I called my friend telling him I finished the VR and felt like it was my best section. This score looks like one of my practice tests... I hit 34s and 35s on practice whenever I had a decent verbal. I guess May 11 was not my VR day....

Man, I am a native english speaker... Advice please.

I am happy with the overall but upset about the VR and WR..... I think I will apply with this. I sort of feel like retaking, but I'm feeling like it will be totally worthless unless I can for sure get a 10 on the VR and write better. DAMN WRITING SAMPLE! It is seriously there just to screw you over.

that is a great score. take a deep breath and relish in the fact that you do NOT need to take this stupid test again. no worries.👍

For people with your VR score 48% got a higher score the second time around so those stats are in your favor. But with your PS, BS and WS scores most retakers actually got a lower score. You have a great score and statistically, you might even get a lower score on your retake. I think you just need to suck it up and prove your competence in English in other areas such as your PS, application, and the interview. Don't think that your not fit to apply just because you got an 8 in VR. An ate don't mene u rite lik dis.

i know that i was curious about this before i took the test and got my scores.... my average for practice tests was 35.5 or something. my kaplan diag was a 22! with only a 7 on PS, 6 on VR, 9 on BS. i had not taken physics in 3 years, gen chem in 4 years. i usually scored highest on PS on practice tests which is weird. my averages for practice tests were like PS 12.5 VR 12 BS 12. so my 12, 11, 11 is not far off. i never practiced the writing. i got a P. who really cares about that anyway? so i would say that the practice tests are pretty indicative of the real thing. the kaplan ones as well as the aamc ones. the kaplan tests are harder but the curves account for that pretty accurately in my opinion. i wanted to crack 35 but i am really happy with my 34. i am totally fine with that. this was not my first time. last score was a 29 (10, 9, 10) in 2003. time to celebrate!

Pretty bummed with the BS, but for whatever reason, it was always my weakest area. My goal was to hit double digits in all sections, so I'm pretty excited.

You aren't in Canada are you??? If you aren't then you are good because in the US they'll forgive you for that 8 in VR and you'll get a chance at many places. I'd run with your score and never take it again.

Where are you planning on applying anyhow?

BTW I'm sure its safe to say no U.S. school really gives a crap about writing score. Most only look at numerical numbers. 8 is low but not so low that it warrants a retake. 8 is the cut off at which it is safe to proceed more often that not. Some even get away with as low as 7 in Verbal.

wow, that is kinda odd...i would definitely retake. i'm not sure how much it would hurt for you to retake in Aug., i wouldn't think it would be too bad though since there used to only be april and august test days anyway, right? keep your head up and bring that verbal up and you'll have an awesome score!!!

Ugh, threads like these really make want to punch anyone who got a 32+ and is wondering, "Should I retake????????? I got a 36P but the ADCOMs might not like my 10VR and the P! Damn that writing sample!"

Hey if you don't get in after this year with that improved MCAT score I'd consider applying to a masters program especially special masters programs. That might help you. Other then that congrats on the improvement.

Should I retake?

I have a 3.89 cum GPA.

You should talk to the Illinois schools' adcoms and see what they say. You might not need to retake it depending on what they say your chances are. See what their averages are too. You might be ok for the lower tier Illinois schools though that might not be a good score for your Northwestern or Pritzker kind of schools.

Yes retake it and get the Verbal up to a 8 or 9 if possible, but at the lowest a 6 or 7.

-solid extracurriculars: hospital volunteer, research (working on submitting publications), numerous academic awards, research fellowships, research presentations (local and national), Mortar Board, Chair in large campus organization, shadowing experience

My exam had more advanced cell biology--stuff that you don't see in intro classes. The biology was definitely material that you learn in upper level courses, so I was surprised to see it on my test, but the orgo was pretty simple. Anyway, bio's my thing... too bad I apparently can't read.

wow...that's an awesome score!! i'm sure you'll get in wherever you choose..lol i would do anything to have a 35+, but i only had about a week and a half to prepare...oh, how i envy you ppl 🙂

I'm REALLY happy with the score! This was my third time taking the test, and I wanted to bring up verbal, which I did. The others went up too, so I improved a total of 6 points!

I was scoring 36-39 on Kaplan tests, and 35-56 on AAMC tests, except for AAMC 7, in which I scored 30.

I thought physics went well, verbal was hard, and bio was really hard, mostly because I incredibly exhausted at that point.

I know it's not a horrible score and all but man I was bummed. I got 33-35 on my practise tests so it was a drop. I'm applying with this score but I doubt I will get in. I think I will take it again next year if I dont get admited.

Probably not at all. It isn't likely to make a significant impact in your application to US medical schools, since most adcom members don't usually put a lot of weight on your WS score. Don't worry yourself over it. Just write good essays.

I was surprised at the verbal and bio, I usually have scored much better on them in practice tests (12s). I know I suck at physics, so this wasn't too surprising. I wish I could have gotten a 29 at least.

cdance - that's a decent score for UIC, SIU, RF, and Loyola. If your gpa is great and you have good ECs you could get into Northwestern and Pritzker.

Go ahead and apply. I wouldn't retake it if you are just looking to get in to all IL schools, not just a top-tier school.

I put a sad smiley because my goal was to beat all my practice tests with the real one, and instead I broke even with my lowest score (even though it isn't a bad score). That does not mean 30-38 are worthless, only that it is hard to deal with coming up short of my goal when I have known nothing but MCAT for the past several months.

This was my lowest practice score but frankly I'm just glad to have gotten a 30+. I have a 3.5 cum GPA and 3.6 science but over 2 yrs of clinical experience. Plus I'm an NC resident so I'm right around average with my stats for my state schools. Now I just need to hurry up and complete my AMCAS application!

so happy it's over ... had a 24 on the original kaplan diagnostic and after putting in a few months of karate kid style dedication i am very glad w/ how things worked out - especially since on my last few full lenghts i'd been doing the same in the sciences and way worse in VR (got an 8 on AAMC 10 VR about three days before the real thing)

how i envy those of you posting with a 38 and complaining about it! haha. my verbal section is just shocking because i was scoring highest on it in all practice exams and my bio section was always the lowest. don't know what the deal is. i'm alright with the score, was hoping for a 32 though. i am thinking of retaking but honestly don't know if i can put myself through it again. hope everyone else was happy with their scores!
