For all of you who took the exam in May:

This is the official score release thread for the May 2007 MCAT dates. Feel free to post serious information and announcements about the impending score release. You can post your scores in here when the time comes as well.

This post also serves as a warning to remind you guys that fake threads stating "SCORES ARE UP" will give you an automatic post hold for one week.

Best of luck to everyone waiting! :luck:

i dont know if any of those practice tests seemed representative of the actual. my practice scores also fluctuated a lot. frankly, i think i got lucky. this has all been a blur to me. a long, horrible blur of freaking out and panic.. and in the end i sit here with my 31Q.
still, im happy with it.

good luck you guys! :luck::luck::luck:

Okay, I am applying to MD/PhD programs: so the competive factor is highly increased.
I got:
VR = 14
PS = 11
BS = 10
WS = M ????😕

Total = 35M
I am really surprised about my WS score because I really pride myself in my writing skills. I'm not that concerned because I think that my awesome Personal Statement will overpower my terrible WS score. I'm also a little sad at my BS score because I am a molecular bio major and I should have gotten a lot better than that - but there is no way I am taking it again.

I really wanted to apply to top tier schools with MSTP programs. How competitive do you think I am for these programs??

I have a 3.87 GPA, studied abroad for a year, did undergraduate teaching for 1.5 years, and research in the same lab for 2 years 3 summers with 2 prestigious fellowships (unfortunately no publications ... yet) along with volunteer work. I was not active in any campus organizations except my choir where I was a "petty" officer. I also got an "outstanding" rating from my committee....

I would really like to get into: Yale, Penn, or NYU. Do you think I have a shot? If not, do you have any suggestions of where else I should consider? I am a PA resident so I will be applying to practically everywhere here.

for folks that have an essay score that is surprisingly low, is it possible its because you didnt hit whatever submit button on one or more of the essays? i didnt do that for one of the princeton review practice tests and got a big fat 0 on one essay, which was averaged into my score then. maybe you could offer that up as an explanation if you're asked about it?

Thanks to everyone in this forum for the great study tips! I was a humanities major who struggled with physics in undergrad... my college offered only calc-based physics, and I never really understood it, despite hours of studying every day. I want to encourage everyone who feels somewhat lost in courses that are quantitatively heavy that there IS hope for the MCAT. Follow the study advice in this forum (focus on basic concepts, etc), study hard, and believe in yourself! Good luck!

Me neither. I just wanted your opinion on the difference 🙂

Berkeley is commonly recognized as harder of the 2 schools, so if anything, I expected the statistics to be the other way around

There's essentially no difference in the quality/level of difficulty in terms of major(s)/overall curricula between Cal and UCLA. That's a myth propagated by the student body at each university. If there are differences, it's very minute. The level of competition among pre-meds is the same, like at any other university.

Foghorn, did you attend (or are you currently attending) either Cal or UCLA (I am just curious)? I attended UCLA for undergrad (Computer Science) and post-bacc (O-Chem, G-Chem, and Bio). I believe the student bodies are about the same at both schools, but everybody who's attended both schools seems to think that Berkeley undergrad is about 20% harder/more demanding than UCLA.

I just got May 31st scores back and received a 37R (13BS 13PS 11VR). I wanted to get a 42, should I retake? I really want to get into med school!

just kidding. I'm ecstatic about these scores. I never dreamed they would come back like this.

Yowza! As expected, fellow SDNers blew my score away, but you guys are the cream of the crop so that's fine with me. I'm perfectly happy with my MCAT anyway.
PS-10
VR-11
BS-10
WR-N

Booyah! I was so happy I don't have to retake the damned MCAT and I can just enjoy the rest of my summer doing fun stuff. The only gripe is the low writing score, but my kickass PS will show adcoms what I'm made of. Anyhow, the greatest part about this was that I had never even broken 30 on a practice test before. lol I'm so happy right now!

what were you getting on your practices?

my scores were

diagnostic 22; 1st fl 20; 2nd fl 34; 3rd fl; 31; 4th fl 34

as you can see my progress is not typical. I have severe attentional difficulties and I guess the high stress situation of the actual test put me in prime mode.

ouch...so yeah...i got 46Z🙁
one word...i hate verbal...i got a low score but i hope it will be enough to get me into DO school...so i will continue with my secondaries and see what happens...at least i will know i did everything...but i hope i will not have to retake this sucker.
:luck::luck: to all of you guys

Hey Kic - I didn't do as well as I'd hoped either. Verbal bit me in the butt, but I got a Q - WTF!

I'm retaking in August, and like you I'm hoping my first score is enough for DO schools. Frustrating when the practice MCAT scores were so much better 🙁

Ahhh, finally home from vacation, so I can finally post my scores on here. I'm soooo happy with mine, I got my highest practice test score...32Q!

VR 10
BS 11
PS 11
WS Q

It was a huge relief to know that I do NOT have to take the horrible thing again! And I'm also happy about my score distribution. Congrats to everyone else!!!!!

congrats premed mommy. i too was worrying i would have to retake. what a relief!!!!!!!

For a month I have been feeling guilty that I wasn't already studying for a retake just in case, I was pretty sure I was going to have to do it again, it's a huge weight off my shoulders.

28O

VR - 11
PS - 8
BS - 9

I was really hoping for a 30, and I'm rather surprised at the O, but I'll take it and see how it goes. It's nothing spectacular, but it's not horrible either. Given the limited time and money I had available for the studying process, I'm just glad it's not lower!

I scored PS - 11, VR - 7, BS - 11, WS - P, and I am wondering the same thing. 🙁 I hate VR!

got a 10-9-14 for a total of 33. Not my goal, but I'll take it.

Has anyone out there not got their scores for the May 31st exam? I haven't got mine yet. I e-mailed them and they told me "They are investigating this matter". I'm kinda worried. 😕

Boy, do I envy your science scores! The only bad thing about your score breakdown is that 7...it gets tricky anywhere under 8, from what I understand. You might consider asking your counselors at school (or at schools to which you're applying) for advice. Good luck!

Yikes! That's just cruel and unusual. I'd be calling them every 5 minutes until they just made up a score to get rid of me. I don't know how you're coping. Good luck!

Maybe you made the one (1) 45 and they are hand grading your test to be sure!!!😀

Its been very painful. I e-mailed them on Friday as soon as my results didn't show up when everyone elses did. Since they don't work weekends I didn't hear from them until today. I was worried they lost my exam, and I would have to rewrite until todays message came. The only thing they told me today was they have my test... Not very reassuring.

This isn't the first time AAMC has caused me headaches. I originally registered for the May 16th test, but when I got to the test they told me I wasn't registered, even though I had my confirmation form and everything.😡 So I was forced to take the May 31st test. If things had gone as planned, I would have had my MCAT results mid June. I don't think AAMC likes me. After all this I should try to bug them until they give me a 44R or something 🙂.

wow that really sucks...I bet you that first mistake they did with the registration has something to do with them holding your exam...😕

I bet you are waiting for the phone call:
"uhh, buddy, we sort of messed up here. So what score do you want?"

geeze that stinks! They should realize how much more stressful they are making this already blood pressure rising process. Let us know what becomes of it.

You probably got a 44-45 and its never happened before. They're investigating the process.. be optimistic! :luck:

Whether you retake depends on 3 things:

1. how competitive is the rest of your profile; i.e. GPA, ECs, etc.

2. What is your home state? Are you in a state like Tx or Fl. where that might fly by or a more competitive state like California?

3. Do you believe that a retake would result in a much higher score?

I feel like I am competitive - Science GPA is 3.95 - Cum GPA is 3.4, but I'm non-traditional, and I have made only A's in the last four years taking all my prerequisites. EC's include starting a non-profit medical relief organization that travels internationally to provide aid to impoverished people, Austin Comm College Physics club President, Several medical mission trips, including one later this year to Honduras, Lions club member...
I'm in TX, and I don't have to go anywhere prestigious. I just want to get in and start helping people. I know that I have much to learn, but I know I am on the right path.
A retake would probably improve my VR scores (which avg 9-10 on practice), but I'm a slow reader, and I've not scored higher than an 11 and 12 respectively on PS or BS so far, so that is the only thing holding me back from retaking.

Hey - I just want to say thank you very much for taking time out to read my response and post your thoughts. Very nice. Best of luck to you!

I think for Tx or Fl. schools those scores will probably get you in somewhere. I'd talk with adcom directors at the lower tier Tx. schools and see what they say but I personally think based on what I've heard, that you have a shot in a Tx schools somewhere with the rest of your profile being solid as it is.

I think I read kind of slowly also... (well, mainly when the passages are boring, and they usually are. haha). I went from a 7 to 11 in VR, due to practicing my timing per passage, getting it down to 8min/passage no matter how long the passages were.

Hey, I had the same MCAT breakdown my first time around (except my writing, which was a Q). Deciding whether or not to retake was tough. I spoke to my advisor (who advised me not to retake), and to admissions people at 4-5 schools. The consensus was that if I did decide to retake, make sure I feel as if my scores would improve. My 29 was 3 points lower than my practice test average, so I decided to try studying again, and actually my practice scores increased in all sections, not just verbal.

Try getting advice from your advisor as well as a few of the schools you're applying to, and see what they say. At least you're from TX and have a lot of options there. Good luck with the decision :luck:.

Your MCAT score is good enough for some schools in TX. I advice you not to retake it. If you make a few points better, it would not make a difference. If you make a few points LOWER, it makes a BIG DIFFERENCE and ruins your chance.

This is how I'm looking at it. Apply anyway...but keep in mind the possibility of a retake.

If you don't get in this year, you have ample time to re-prepare and take it early next year (Jan.), so in the event that you didn't do so hot again on the verbal, you can retake before the next application cycle in the early summer (May). This way your apps won't be delayed and you can get another shot in!

Wow, what a helpful forum. I have submitted my application and I am going to hope for the best. Again, thanks for all the feedback. I'll post something here later to let you know what happens.

I finally get to post a reply on this thing.

5/31 MCAT

VR: 11
PS: 13
WS: R
BS: 14

Total: 38R

I came out of there thinking I did awful. I am pretty excited, except I am only about to start my 3rd year so I have a while before the applying process starts. Good luck to everyone who has yet to take it.

At least you have one less headache now that the MCAT is out of the way. Just concentrate on getting your LORs together, working on personal statement, and getting your info ready and together maybe by creating a resume to make it easier when you start filling out AMCAS. Oh and if you don't have a strong EC profile, try do some volunteering or stuff like that this year. So when May 2008 rolls around you'll be ready set to go with the app process.

Got your score?

Got your score?

Sadly no. I have contacted them another two times. In the e-mail I ask for an explanation for the delay and when I'm going to get them, but all they say is "they are working on it". They also said it is a 'technical problem'.I called them and the person couldn't find out why the delay but said I should get them in 2 days... Honestly, I think they lost my exam at this point. Its a computer test, so it should be in some computer file somewhere, right? All they have to do is find it... At this rate i will get my scores back after the June 15 test takers. I really don't know what to do and the AAMC isn't giving me any information. I think they just don't want to admit how they screwed up. I wish they would just be straightforward with me. I've been too considerate so far, tomorrow I'm gonna use my angry voice.

Keep us posted...I'm curios to see how they will deal with this!

Retake? I dunno 🙁 I'm scared that if I retake I'll get a 7 in VR

Give us some more information. What is your GPA, what are your ECs like, what is your home state, and what are your future goals: academic medicine or to become a clinician..i.e. MD/PhD or straight MD.

so I went up but I am not sure to be happy or not...I don;t know if this will get me into Umich or not but:

April 7th exam: 9 PS 11 VR 9 BS for a 29R

June 15th exam: 10 PS 11VR 10BS for a 31R

**I just wanted to add that I am extremely happy that I improved and that I know I can get in somewhere, but I just really wanted UMich because it is the best option for my family!!** No complaining from me!!
