I was hoping we could compile a list of pre-med texts that people on here are fond of (for self study etc). Maybe we could stick to a format as follows, but maybe mods can suggest alternatives. Feel free to add topics if I haven't covered them all. Hopefully we can compile a solid list of resources. I will start.

General Chemistry:
Chemistry: the central science (10th)

Organic Chemistry:

General Biology:

Microbiology:

Genetics:

General Physics:

Anatomy and Physiology:

These are the books I used are below. Of all of them, I really like my o-chem book and g-chem books. Thought they were clear and had a lot of good examples. I hated my physics book (problems explained were much too simple and questions at end of chapter were much too difficult... my pet peeve of any math/science book).

General Chemistry:
Chemistry: the central science (11th)

Organic Chemistry:
Organic Chemistry (Brown, Foote, Iverson) (4th)

General Biology:
Campbell Biology (4th): I took this class a long time ago, looks like they are up to edition number 9 now.

Microbiology: DID NOT TAKE

Genetics: DID NOT TAKE

General Physics: My first and second semester used completely different books. First semester used College Physics (Geller & Young) (8th) and my second semester (starting in a week) is using Physics: Principles w/ Applications (6th)

Anatomy and Physiology:
I took a class in physiology in college (don't remember the textbook). I later took a quarter worth of A&P (moved east to west for work so couldn't finish the other two quarters). The second time the textbook was Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology - Martini (7th).

Not really sure why this is necessary. If a textbook is in existence, odds are it's being used somewhere. You can easily find user reviews from a much larger population using Amazon.

Whatever text book your teacher tells you to get. Chances are they will be getting test questions directly out of the book and if you have a different version or different author you may find yourself at a disadvantage.
