Official UGA class of 2014 acceptances...

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
the vet i work for got a call from uga yesterday asking about me and they seemed very impressed by what he said. So hopefully a thick letter is headed my way!

They called my vet I worked for too... told him he was their interview. So, sounds hopeful for you! Good luck 🙂

First, thanks to those who posted your stats. And congrats to all of you!

Secondly, do they really only call one of your LORs? UGA called my boss about two weeks ago and I've been checking in with my other letters to see if they've heard anything. I admit I've been a bit worried that they haven't called anyone else. 🙂

I really enjoy this forum. It's nice to have an outlet while I obsess over the waiting game. 🙂

I'd imagine they probably only call one or two, it seems like it would take forever to call over 900 references. If anything, I would think it's a very good thing they've called one of your referernces! A person I talked to from last year's class only had one called and said that the reference was called only for clarification of something on the application. Good luck nonetheless!!

You guys can look this up on the old UGA thread, but to help answer your questions...
UGA typically calls at least one reference for those applicants they have either already decided to accept OR are seriously considering and are using the calls to compare applicants for the last of such coveted seats.

So getting an phone call is a GOOD sign. However, the 2 cycles I got rejected, my references got called but I didnt make the cut, so it could still go either way. Good news is you dont have much longer to wait. Seems like they are doing things a little earlier this cycle so keep ya'lls chins up!

The Dr. I work with now (who wrote one of my LORs) got a call from UGA the other day. My fingers are crossed!

Nobody has called any of my references🙁. Do any current UGA students know of anyone who has gotten in without having had their references contacted?

I just got an email that says I'm considered a GA resident for tuition purposes. I know that isn't an acceptance or anything, but maybe it means they are still evaluating me? Have any other peeps (accepted or still waiting) gotten such a message and if so, when?

I got the email too!!! The fact that they are confirming our residence is hopefully a good sign. At least I have something else to hypothesize about for the next two weeks...

As far as the reference phone calls go, none of mine have been called. I worked with a girl who applied last year, and they did call one of her references and asked if she was emotionally stable. lol...she kinda wasn't and she was waitlisted. I think they use the phone calls to clear up any questions they have from the app and statement.

I got that email at the end of January (Jan 26), so I guess it was a couple weeks before I got the call (Feb 16)..so it may be a great sign, I'm rooting for you!! 👍

I got an acceptance call on February 16th and got the email today, so take that FWIW. I'd certainly think it's a good thing they even took the time to consider your residency. Good luck!

none of my other eLORs have gotten a call, but i know some other girls who have had two or more of theirs called. And i got the email about being a georgia resident too. *hopeful* All i know is i atleast haven't been nixed just yet. I guess we can't make the clock go any faster, can we?

Has anyone from a contract state gotten an e-mail verifying your residency? If I got one I hope I didn't delete it by accident. :smack:

I'm not from a contract state but I moved to GA three years ago so there was a question of whether or not I'd be considered a GA resident. I got the e-mail confirming my residency yesterday.

I had a dream last night that my offer from Mississippi was repealed and that GA didn't accept me. I hate waiting... I'm losing my mind... and my sleep.

Thought I would bump this up and cause a few heart attacks possibly. This could be the week we hear something...

*clutches chest* "I'm comin' to join ya, Elizabeth!"

(Let's see who all recognizes the reference...)

My friend said that UGA called two of her LORs. I'm nervous because I think they only called one of mine. Anyone else have more than one called?

One of my LORs actually received two different calls from two different people from UGA. I had a total of four LORs so I'm not sure why they only called one (and called him twice for that matter).
The waiting is driving me crazy, when are the official letters supposed to go out?? I wish everyone would quit asking me if I've heard anything.......

Bad news- I think they are on spring break, so we probably won't be hearing this week. I tried to call and ask a question today and yesterday and both times nobody answered.

Yeah they are on spring break so letters will probably be sent out on Monday. Everybody can relax!

I just got my letter. I"M IN!!!!!! IS peeps should check their mail today!!

Ah!! I was really counting on NOT worrying about letters until next week! Haha.

Congrats BTW!

Thanks. You will probably have yours by the end of the week I would think. Good luck!

Hah me too! I figured they wouldn't mail them this week since they're on spring break. Maybe they sent them out before they left. Congratulations pwnedu! Are you accepting or do you have decisions to make? No letter for me, maybe tomorrow.

YEAH! I got my letter today! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Now I don't have to drive to Tennessee tomorrow for an interview. Even better!

:soexcited::soexcited::soexcited:

Does anyone know if they tell you if you're on the alternate list at UGA? My friend was declined but her boss (who went to UGA-CVM) said she was accepted after being on the alternate list and she didn't even know she was on it. I know at other schools they'll tell you if you're an alternate. Does anyone know about UGA?

Yes, I got a letter telling me I was on their alternate list.

UGA does have a formal alternate list and they will tell you after April 15 what your rank is. However, in some years they have gone thru their alt. list and will call back people previously rejected. This doesnt happen often, but it does happen. :xf:

Thank you LVT2DVM, I'll let her know!

I've read a lot of your advice on these boards, and I really appreciate that you take the time to help people out. I'm sure I'll be asking many more questions as I navigate my way through my first year of vet school. Hopefully you'll bear with me! 🙄

Does anyone know what information will be provided at the March 26 visitation day? I won't be able to make it but I'd like to make sure I don't miss anything improtant. Thanks 🙂

Also, does anyone know where we are supposed to meet? The flyer doesn't provide any info.

I am on the alternate list. I think it is more frustrating than being rejected, because i still don't know what is going to happen and am just hanging out here. Atleast with a firm "no" i could start making plans for next semester. i hate to have plans for the next year and have to drop them at the last minute. so, for now, a definite maybe

I'm in the same boat right now with UGA and Mississippi.

Hey guys Im working on getting more info for you about open house which is different than the new student welcome open house on March 26th for those who cant make it this Friday. The Vetschool Public open house is a week from this Friday. Hope you all can make it. I'll be MC'ing the Parade of Dog Breeds, so stop by and say hello!

Here's the latest low down.

Tomarrow, March 26, there is a Visitation Day for student who have been officially offered admission to the Class of 2014 only. Students should have received an invitation of the Dean of Admission for this event that read as follows.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday for the Class of 2014 Visitation Day. The event is scheduled from 10:00am to 1:00pm and various activities are planned. We ask that you arrive to the College by 10:00am so we can promptly start, please take into consideration time to park and walk over. Please park in the Carlton Street parking deck and we will give you a parking pass to exit the deck without charge when you sign in. We will have a sign in table in the student lobby, which is located in the Veterinary Medicine Main Building. You do not need to RSVP. Please visit our website for directions. http://www.vet.uga.edu/directions.cvm.php

I would recommend that you arrive by 9:40. It takes about 8-9 min to get from the parking garage to the school lobby and finals are going on and the lower parking levels will be full. The lobby is located at the entrance to the left of the main entrance (which has the big white columns.) You can come into the main entrance, and take a left which leads you down to the lobby as well. There will be signs directing you where to go.

The agenda is as follows:
Registration @ 10am
Welcome from Dean Allen and Associate Dean Carmichael 10:15 to 11
Admission Counselor Laura Leigh Crowe will address admission information, curriculum info, housing, ect..
Panel of Current DVM students will answer all your burning questions from 11:15 to 12pm.
Vet School Club Fair and Tours of CVM from 12pm to ?

The open house is next Friday April 2. This event is open to the public, future students and studen alternates. Basically anyone can come.

quick list of events:

9:30 parade of breeds
10:30 frisbee and agility
11:15 horse demo
12:00 horse massage
12:30 golden retriever demo
1pm more agility
1:30 flyball

milking demo probably around 10 and 2
quail eggs hatching from 10-10:30
VET Q & A 11 and 2
Tours of the college will be given all day.

According to Ms. Crow, students offered admission after tomarrow (ie alternates) will be invited to a later visitation day, similar to the one tomarrow--so please do not feel left out. You are all special and we want to make you feel as such. The separate events help us give smaller groups our extra special attention.

Any idea on recommended attire?

Thanks!

Rip

Business casual/comfort...Men..golf-type or button up shirt, tie is optional but not uncommon. Women...nicer slacks and blouse, skirts are fine if you prefer. I would not recommend high heels unless you are comfortable walking alot in them. The campus is vast. No jeans or shorts..you are graduate level students now.

Tomarrow's forecast says windy and party cloudy @ 63 degrees.

😍Have fun you guys...just be yourselves and dont be nervous...your already in!

PS...sorry posted this so late...studying for finals.

So, who came to the visitation event? Did it affect your decision?

I had already decided on UGA before this visit. I will say that meeting the students and seeing the facilities made me more confident in my choice. I'm even more excited to start this fall.

The good news-This years open house was a HUGE success. 🙂

the bad news...I posted the incorrect information regarding the waitlist status. My sincerest apologies. I got that information from what I felt was a reliable source, but alas it was not. You guys all know my history wth applying to vetschool. As such I would never intentionally cause distress to my fellow SDNers. Because I thought the information to accurate, I felt you should know. Let this be a lesson to all that we should be cautious with the information we post here and as a reader, we should never take information posted here as all knowing.
