I heard UNECOM was full (congrats!). I was wondering when the last date was that someone got acceptance?? Thanks

I'm pretty sure it was the beginning of January. I interviewed Dec. 9 heard maybe the second week of January (but I was accepted pending space, because the class was already full. I think some of the people who interviewed with me were accepted).

Happy Friday everyone! 🙂 Today, I'll be a beach bum...80ish over here. All I need is 'you, me, $5, and good conversation". I love that!!! ...quoted from the greatest movie...Reality Bites. 👍

Hey docmz, sounds like fun. How does it feel?
I think I had the best sleep when I was there last time.
It is so nice and quite. Good luck home hunting.

hey docmz, was that you walking around the building this morning? I was hosting the interview group and there was a guy and girl walking around and I didn't recognize who it was... was that you?? (I was in the medium blue shirt, blue tie with tan pants - not wearing a suit jacket)

i know i know, we never have to take the MCAT again...yahoo! but i just wanted you all to know that we are now part of history! we can now say 'remember when the mcat was on paper?' b/c they are chaning it all to computer based testing in 2006-2007. the total time of the mcat will be changing from 8hrs to 5hrs! what???!!! now we can all sound like old people..."back when i took the mcat we sat for 8hrs and had to use PENCILS!" haha. just wanted to all to know this unimportant info.

Karhu I don't know how old you are...

But.. I can quickly say... do you remember the time when we had"

a commodor64 to play games on.
an Attari system.
Calculators were not allowed in math class.
Computers where DOS format. c:/ dir
Internet was soooo slowwww and there was very few websites.

OOohhh remember when the remote control on a tv has a cord.

I am sure this can go own for a while. Especially with people older than me (I am 27).

Hey all - On the mailings - I went up this past week and they said they will be sending out info packets and whatnot over this next week (while UNE is on spring break, so the office has time to get stuff done). They realize they're behind but will be putting things out shortly.

So it's impossible to live without a car huh? Well I HAD a car until I rolled it yesterday on I-90... Passenger and I survived, but explorer is totaled 🙁
Guess I get to go car shopping huh? 😳

So a computer MCAT huh? I'm just pissed it's gone from 9 hours to 5 - WEAK!

Lastly - congrats to everyone getting in before UNECOM filled!

Thanks NavDOman for that information! I was beginning to wonder if we'd ever get anything.

ahh...car accidents are no great shakes man. My car is in the process of giving up. I sat in my garage, trying to turn on the ignition and absolutely nothing... until after 10 minutes. It sounds like it's sick w/ bronchitis or something `close to it. got to get that fixed pronto.

Yeah, computerized MCAT...5 hrs...shorter but must be tough to deal w/ considering there's no tangible paper in front of you to scribble on....

Have a good one all!` 🙂

haha

that was definately me! i was showing my boyfriend the school inbetween looking at apartments! how funny!

🙂

i was glad to see they still did interviews despite the stormy weather! and i found a place...it is 76 high street. i'm so excited to have that part of this all done!

i'm not going to lie...i don't recall when a tv remote had a cord...BUT...they should bring it back because i am always losing it.

Yeeeekkksss.. that sounds like a bummer. Sorry to hear about the accident. It is nice that you can go shopping for new ride.

I guess with new MCAT exam on computer, it will be similar to USMLE. I personally don't like computer exams. I prefer to be able to write things down. Does this mean that the exam will be offered any time.

that is a plus.

Mchl, good job on finding a place. How was your second visit??
It is deferent since you don't have to interview and less stress.

BTW.. I think they had coredeless remotes.. but we were too poor to get it.. we had to use the older one.. hehehe

I'm going up to Maine this weekend to check out my apt and to take pics around UNECOM. yay! 🙂 Is it absolutely freezing over there? Wow, it seems like most of you are in your mid-late 20s..26, 27....I just turned 24. 👍

We'll all make sure to refer to you as the 'baby'!! haha

i just turned the weeee age of 23 🙂

my visit to UNECOM was great. it was so nice to walk through the doors and know that i was an accepted student. they got soooooo much snow while i was there. it actually is making me consider selling my little kia and buying something with AWD or 4 wheel drive. the apartment i signed is on a pretty steep street and i'm worried that once the snow flies i might be strapping on my snowshoes to get to class.

if anyone is looking for an outdoor adventure while you are looking for an apartment in biddeford, check out ferry beach state park. it is a great snowshoe or ski in, directly to the ocean. mmmmm nothing like an ocean breeze to make you realize you will be living in a state entitled "vacationland"

4 months and counting!!! 😀

I've got you all beat - 20... don't ask how I pulled that one off!

By the way - my car is almost completely flat (saw if for the first time) - the ceiling is down to the headrests... All I have to say to everyone in here is WEAR YOUR SEATBELTS! I've been telling everyone this - they're the only thing that kept us alive.
Have a good night all!

20! you're a young one eh? when did you start college? @ 15?

btw, I received a nice long letter from Patricia Kelley. Def the 1st of our many mailings!!! I'm starting to get excited about next yr! The letter basically welcomed us to the UNECOM familyand gave an outline of when we're going to receive stuff...I won't give everything away for those of you who didn't receive this yet, but boy, am I glad I chose UNECOM. 🙂 🙂 👍 Friendly and hospitable! our future alma mater. woo hoo!!! :luck:

I'm only going to be 23 next year when I'm a second year... how is that going to make you feel to be older than a second year! hehe...

Hey mz, your apartment is just down the street from me... it's great living right off pool st. (my apartment is actually right on pool st.) No stop lights to worry about, just jump right out onto the main road and head to campus... and you're actually at the same apartment as one of the "present" second years

Anyway, this week is our spring break, so I'm spending it looking for cars (our 97 lumina bit the dust) - so I'm having fun with that. ok, back to the internet shopping... have a great week everyone!!

23!!! WOW That is not bad. You will be able to put 35year + in to the profession.

OMG 😱 You guys are making me feel like a fossil! I am 30, but by the time we start school I will be 31! I guess if anyone needs to know what life was like before electricity... I'm you're girl. LOL

Actually, it's been quite a journey and I am very happy that I am where I am at this very moment. If anyone said "You're gonna be a doctor!" back when I was in my late teens-early 20's I would have had to send them for a psych consult.

Anyway, hoorah 😀 to all of us who kept hope that there was a light at the end of the tunnel and who sucessfully avoided the SATs.

PS- If you all check the U-Online at the UNE site, financial aid stuff (at least mine was) was there and for me, there was missing documentation... so FYI if you can log in and check it out it may give you a heads up and put you a step ahead of waiting for a letter in the mail.

Hi EVERYONE.

I can 't believe this thread has been silent for more then 24 hours. You guys have to beat DMU2009. They are the only ones with a higher number of threads.

BTW.. I have some sad news to report to you all.

I will not be starting Medical School with you guys (Class of 2009)

Instead, I have decided to start with the class of 2010.

This is mainly to complete my PhD doing a proper job and not sloppy $hit.

Also my SO, will be able to finish her degree and move with me.

One more year would give me some time to rest a bit/ travel to a few countries (Europe/Middle east/hopefuly Australia or Japan) and get refreshed before starting intensive medical school. I know that once I get started.. there is no break for 10 years 😱

Over the next year.. I will also try to some money saved up to pay my tuition. Hopefuly apply for residency status in the US.

I hope you guys won't mind me coming and posting here every now and then.

Well that is too bad! Yeah do a good job with your PhD and come to UNE next year. It was probably a hard decision to make. But kudos for making it. We will all miss you this year. See ya around next year - we'll show you around. By the way - how did you go about deferring? How did they deal with it?

Hey sappdog, thanks for replying. It is a very difficult decision even now I am thinking whyyy whyyyyy dam I should not do that. But logically I know I should do that. I requested it by to the admissions committee with my reason and they responded at their last meeting of the year (This monday).
UNECOM staff was very helpful and very understanding. For that reason I know that UNE is the right decision. Also I am glad that I don't have to re-apply next year. I know I am in... at my first choice. And again. How can you say no to this.

HOW DO YOU ATTACH PICTURE?????

docbill,
you seem like you are the official captain of Team 2009. where will this thread be without you? i wish you the best of luck and we will all be there to give you noogies when you come to classes fall 06.

it so sad to see you won't be joining us...but, good luck with your work!!!

Thanks guy. I hope you will let me post on here still.

BTW, I am still going to UNE, it will just have to be the next class. There is no way I would turn that down. If I knew how to post picture.. I would post a really nice one of the school.

UNECOM looks like a nice school, plus the ocean is right there. Could anyone tell me what are the typical living expenses in the area? Thanks 😀

Hi! I'm currently finishing up my first year at UNECOM, and I am looking for a roommate for my second year. I live in a comfortable two bedroom apartment in good ole' Biddeford. It's in a great location, just about 7-10 minutes from the school. It's very close to the grocery store which makes it convenient. Washer and dryer are in the apartment. Rent is $375.00 each, so $750.00 total. That includes heat and water. The owner and landlord of the property are extremely nice. Let me know if you're interested.

Hey docbill,

I also found a great pic of UNECOM. 🙂 Too bad you're not joining the class of '09 but hey, we'll see you next year! 👍

i think we need more UNECOM love 😍

anyone receive UNECOM mail lately? i did get the letter about two weeks ago but was anxious to see something else with that fabulous return address. oh yeah, and does anyone have a palm pilot or looking to get one that they will/are using? any suggestions?

Yeah - I just got a big packet - includes computer requirement info, some stuff on housing, roommate forms if you want to try and find one, advanced standing paperwork, and a really nice welcome letter...
On the palm pilot - this may change in medical school (and probably will with my luck) but I've used one in the past and you try it out for just a little bit and then never use it again - just hard to get in the habit and post-it notes are so much easier... I'm sure I'd use it more though if I had internet access on it - so that's my advice (get one with wireless capability).

I haven't recieved anything yet!!! Where it be? I will keep waiting...

I AM GEALOUS! I don't want to wait one more year.. Ahhhhhh 🙁

Since I said yes, I have been in a crapy mood. There must be a correlation.

I still have a picture to post for you guys... I just have to figure out how.

As for the palm pilot situation, I completely agree. I own a palm pilot but used it for only 2 wks. Now, it just sits in my closet doing nothing for me. It's so frustrating to use that 'magic freakin' doodle' pen to type out a simple mssg. It takes me 3x faster to write my notes on paper than store it on a palm. have a good one everyone!

August 1 Orientation...about 4 months,a few days and counting 👍

Hi everyone,

I haven't gotten the BIG packet yet either, just the financial aid award letter. Yikes the debt! Anyway, I have a palm pilot too, but it's the same thing you guys said... it's more of a pain to carry and put all the data into. Much easier in my experience to keep my trusty planner with my scribbles on paper. But, I have seen some cool stuff that you can downlaod which will be useful for us all at some point... like pharmacology sites like the "PDR" (physicans desk reference) and things like "Diagnosaurus" which gives diagnosis and differential diagnosis info, etc. I don't really forsee using it much until absolutely necessary... maybe if it were voice activated! that would be cool. I never seem to get the scribble to = the letter I wanted on the first try 😡 it's pretty frustrating.
Anyways, hope you all are doing well and having more patience than me! I am just dying for July to get here! 😀

Take care!

Hey - yeah so on the palm pilots - I did see a lot of those programs which would be really cool later on - stuff like the diagnosis program and whatnot could definitely handy to have later on. I would go for one that has internet capability so you can look things up, get e-mail, and look at pix and whatnot while with a patient or in any case where you'd need it right on the spot. Another thing that a med student showed me that was cool was he had one that could take pictures, that way he could take a picture of something interesting on a patient (like a wierd sore or something) and he could reference it later rather than having to describe it...
So those are the aspects that I would look at and just some good hints and tips... Have a Happy Easter everyone!

Attention all anxious 2009'ers, the Class of 2009 group is established on campus pipeline!

Hi everyone. after reading this thread for weeks I can now officially join you! This is the happiest day of my life 😀 😀 😀 I almost hugged my mailman when he handed me the letter. Once I come down from my cloud, i'm sure i'll have lots of questions and things to say...but right now i'm just enjoying this wonderful feeling of getting into my dream school. Can't wait to meet you all! :luck:

Thanks for the info on the palm pilot question. Now, here is my next question. So, I currently have a Dell Inspiron 2650 that I got just under 2 years ago. Now, the requirements listed by UNECOM say you must have at least 512 mb of Ram or higher, I only have 256 mb. Now, my processor is an Intel Celeron (which they don't recommend) and 1.6 Ghz. 30 gig hard drive, CD/RW DVD drive, etc. Now, what should I do??? Sell this and get a new one, or, add more memory, or, just keep this and go with it for the next two years as long as I can?? It runs great, I just did a clean sweep of it and reloaded everything so it runs like new.

Hmmm...any info from future or current students would be great!
I just got the packet last night as well, no financial aid letter yet, but at least a packet to keep me occupied for now! 🙂

if you like your computer, and it runs fine, and you can get wireless internet (you might need to buy a wireless card) then keep your computer and use it as long as possible... you can always get a new one part way through the year or next year, but just save they money they give you, the longer you can wait, the better a computer you can buy with your money... at least that's my opinion. congrates everyone once again... looking forward to seeing you all in the fall

thanks jon. that is exactly what i was thinking. i use wireless at my house now so that should be no problem hooking into the UNE network. i'll save the money and buy a big bad supa-computer when this one bites the dust. i feel like i have senioritis, but i'm not in school. so perhaps workitis it is??? can't wait until august!!!

Hey everyone - I got the "packet" today. That was a very descriptive letter from Dean Kelley, very nice too. I have not recieved a financial aid packet yet.

I have workitis too. I just work and think to myself that soon, very soon I will be "working" at something that I will totally enjoy. I can't wait to start! I think I might come up and get a place sometime soon... Right now I can fly from ATL to Portland for $103!
How are you guys looking for room mates? I now I will need one... financially it is so much smarter.

hi sappdog. i don't know too much on the apartment thing, but i do know that when i looked i found two "realtors/landlords" that were very helpful...both are listed on the UNE off campus housing website. Ben Poirier had many rentals and was willing to show many of them. Basically any price range, number of bedrooms, etc. The other one was Mark Bureau (who I am renting with). His units (1 building) were very affordable and nice. I recall one unit that was a two bedroom, 695 a month, and HUUUUUGE. He calls it the penthouse. my unit with mark was very affordable for 520 a month, and it is a two bedroom (even though i'm living alone). Anyway, just some info from a former apartment hunter. Good luck!!! Oh yes, and make sure to ask all the rentals when they are willing to start renting. Some want to start Asap while others are on the same schedule as us. i found the best luck using the UNE site rather than paper digging.
hope that helps. good luck!!!!
🙂
