I mean Mich people. It isn't fair. There's only one other person I saw who went to school in FL, and it was a trad guy. 😛
oh. haha! Well, it's a record low this year. It's usually around 50-60.

looks like i might be coming to michigan! ever since i was accepted i have tried not to even think about michigan, because it was too depressing to think that i could get into such a great school and not be able to go - too expensive.

they offered me a pretty big scholarship, and i think i've gotta take it. i haven't been accepted to any schools that are anywhere near the level of michigan, and with the scholarship it's now definitely possible i'll be in ann arbor this fall.

see you then! go blue!
I found you too, ahd. Your email was a total give away.

QofQuimica said:
You guys wouldn't have found me if they didn't tell you when and where I graduated.... :meanie: The year alone gives me away. :meanie:
Only your school would have given you away. Plus, there aren't too many non-trads from FL, so we can put the two together (age and location).

Thank you, Sail!

I have yet to find you.

Correction: I found you! Hehehe!
I found you too - knowing where you are relative to Q was sort of a giveaway! 😛

Yeah, since everyone knows where Q is. 😀

Ok, here's a data summary from my going through the roster:
Out of all 350 acceptees (but ~15 are MSTP), 103 were in-state.
40 from UM (and I know 10 of them, pretty high considering I don't socialize with premeds much)
45 from Harvard
1 person named Osama (whom I will have to find during second look)
1 person with my name (although male), whom I will also have to find during second look.

Oh yeah, we can order our white coats now! Get 'em while they're hot!

This coming from the guy in Columbus, OH 😀 . Someone has to represent the green and white!

Who's getting football tickets next year? I know I am :meanie:

You'll never figure out who I am, muwhaha. JK. happydays, you already know me. 😉
Yeah, I figured out who you were from your SN. I'm looking forward to talking to you in person.
BDiesel said:
Oh, I found the White coat order form! But I'm too nervous to order it. I mean, what if I get the wrong size, and it's too big/small, then I'll look ridiculous and get laughed out of medical school and then I'll have to take my short too small/big white coat and work at mcdonalds...

Not really, but I'm really bad at picking out sizes. Plus I hope to be slimmer/trimmer by August. Sigh. The things we worry about while procrastinating.

Me too! I'm not sure which size is for me. Judging from the long lab coats from chem lab, I'd say I'm about a L.

BDiesel said:
My dad was laughing at me when I told him about the White Coat ceremony. He likes to mock the "short coats" running around at University Hospital who have no idea what they're doing. Nice 👍
At least the short coats won't make me look short. (This is why I will never wear a long coat.)

BDiesel said:
So does this mean you've made a decision? We'd love to steal you away from Haaaavahd.
Well no, not for sure. I just decided to drop the "if I end up going to" in every line I use referring to either school. But a number of factors are definitely pushing me in Michigan's direction. I'm still revisiting both schools, and will wait until I've done that to FINALLY decide.

My wife is a major factor, I think she wants me to go to Michigan more than Robert Ruiz. We're from the UP, so we aren't used to cities, and she still needs to finish up some education (she's going into teaching) requirements, which would be much easier to do in Michigan (the state).

I really really really want to justify buying a "Michigan Med" t-shirt, though. I'm getting sick of this self-induced waiting game.

I bought mine right after my interview. Steve & Barry's has a 1-year return policy, so I figured I was safe...

I am most likely attending Michigan Med, and I have a very important question. How/when do we order football tickets? I am a huge, obsessive Michigan football fan. If you have any idea, then please let me know. Much thanks

I think for new students, it won't be until July/Aug.

yup. in most areas of life, i consider myself to be a mature, thoughtful, and reasonable man. but, when it comes to intercollegiate athletics, especially involving msu, ohio state, and notre dame, i am petty, childish, and obnoxious. no apologies. the way i see it, you seem like a pretty decent guy - but you went to msu so there must be something wrong with you.

and i am definitely getting football tickets, but only if they won't let me back in the marching band. 🙄

Speaking of football, if we current Wolverines missed the March 27th (is that right?) deadline for next year, can we still get them? Also, my boyfriend isn't going to be a student here next year, so can he get them too? He will be an alumnus.
Oh, don't worry. I'll give him mine. 🙄

Aw, am I really that transparent? haha. It's a nickname one of my hall mates gave me freshman year. Usually I just go by B, but for some reason that made her think of Vin Diesel - hence, BDiesel. I don't know. I think it makes me sound tough.

Q, I'm not all that crazy about football. I just like the atmosphere in the Big House and the cheers and chants. Damned if I know any of the players' names or what the rules are!
haha! Nice! I really liked Vin Diesel in "Chronicles of Riddick."

Anyhoot, I'm not crazy about Fball either. I just think that since I live next to the stadium, I should go in there once in a while.

Oh plus, I know two football players from tutoring them. That's why it's great to work for the athletic dept.

That way your kids will have the best of both worlds.

So...how's the Michigan basketball team? I'm a diehard Jayhawks fan from Kansas, and I'll be really sad if the games aren't all that exhilirating. But from what I'm reading so far in this thread...football is where it's at?

I've been in California for 5 years...will somebody please reassure me that the Michigan winters aren't going to kill me? Can't wait til 2nd Look!!! 🙂

hey, any of you guys going to welcome weekend? based on the email, looked like 20-30 people i think?

i'm there...getting in mid-afternoon! GO BLUE! YAY!!!

About 2nd Look Weekend...I know they had to limit the # of people b/c there was an overwhelming response. Did anyone get a confirmation email or anything after they submitted their form online? I filled out the form almost immediately, so I'm guessing I have a spot, but I figured they would've had an automated confirmation or something.

I already booked my ticket, so if I can't come to Ann Arbor, I'll be stuck hanging out with the parents all weekend... 😱

QofQuimica said:
Um, but what if they end up with your lack of brawn and his lack of brains???? It's thoughts like this that gave us Africanized killer bees. :meanie:
That's something OrganLibrarian will just have to risk. She can keep having children until one finally turns out to be the next world shaker. Remember, she's doing this selfless experiment for the (possible) advancement of mankind.

i'm going too... look for the person who can't stay awake, and that's me. well, and everyone else coming from the west coast too, probably.

I just received an email this evening ~6:00 (Eastern) with tons of info and a few quick questions...

When asked if I would fell comfortable going to a bar, do you think that it would be bad to answer that I would be uncomfortable NOT going to a bar? 😀

Sail! My kinda man! (I'm into writing two- or three-word responses to posts lately, since I'm lazy and also because I'm trying to turn SDN into a simulated real-life conversation. I'm done now.)

Lazy? That's not a quality we want in the future leaders of the world! I think we'll have to dismiss OrganLibrarian (and likely the rest of us) from the creation of genetically-superior humans. Oh wait, just find a non-lazy athlete, and you're back in the game!

I'm not UNCOMFORTABLE going to a bar. I just don't particularly WANT to go to one. I would definitely rather go to a bar than, oh, say, get both of my legs ripped off without anesthetic. Compared to that, going to a bar would be TOTALLY fun. But in general, I am just not into going to bars. I mean, it's REALLY hard for me to pass up an opportunity to breathe all the second-hand smoke I want, get hit on by obnoxious drunk guys who are unclear about what the meaning of "not a chance in hell" is, and pay twice as much to get drunk compared to what I'd pay to get drunk at home, but I will do my utmost to control my excitement around y'all. 😛

I actually don't agree with school-sponsored trips to bars....there are some applicants who are underage, and it's not very nice to leave them out. At my last second look, everyone was going to a bar, but there was one kid who was still under 21. So a couple of other people and I didn't go and we hung out at the hotel with him, because really, how crappy would he have felt staying there by himself all evening while all of the rest of us went off together to the bar???

OH NOOOOO....you can smoke in public places in Ann Arbor? 🙁

If it's a bar, probably. Here in FL, we literally amended the state constitution to prohibit smoking in public places, but of course that doesn't apply to bars. 🙄

WenfeiX said:

You're not allowed to smoke around the hospital anymore...not sure when that was instituted.

I'm down with going to the bar. I've never been to any bars in AA, except Good Time Charlies, and that was for a celebration with my lab! I guess it will be a new experience for all of us.

There is still hope...there is still hope. 😛

I agree, I hate smoking in bars. Everything else about them is fun, though 😀 .

Apparently there are at least 8 smoke-free restaurants in Ann Arbor, no mention of bars. Too bad.

So Q, you ended up chillin with the youngest prospective at a school? Classic 👍 .

yeah, I was surprised, when I went and had a few (....) drinks after my interview, it was definitely the first thing I noticed... I didn't realize how much I appreciated OR's indoor clean air act until then.

I could feel myself getting the blacklung. (insert wimpy cough here)

Ohhhhh us West-coasters are so, so soft. A few days in the mean streets and smoky bars of Ann Arbor will toughen us up...

Is anyone else excited to play Ultimate on Friday?!?!?! We can Boat Race afterward too. 😉

I can only throw a Frisbee with one hand, and only in one fashion, but otherwise I'm a stellar player.

dajimmers said:

 He was the only one there under 21, so yeah, I guess he was. Don't get me wrong; I would never want to BE an adolescent again, but I don't dislike college students, dajimmers. I don't even hate bars as much as my last post probably sounds like I do; I'm basically apathetic about them. If that's what everyone else that I'm with wants to do, I'll be a good sport and go have a drink. It just wouldn't be MY top choice of what we should do. Really, the biggest thing that annoys me about bars (drunk guys hitting on us) won't be a problem if you go with a big group and have some guys along. But like I said, the schools really should plan an alternative activity for people who can't go and not just leave them by themselves at the hotel. It's not something I had even considered before this happened, because I've been over 21 for so long now that this issue just doesn't come up. But most of the rest of you guys don't have that excuse. :meanie:

nah, I can handle it... my family's full of smokers, and the type that don't believe that it's bad for you and will litereally blow it in your face. But clean air is very nice.

people play ultimate in Michigan?

LOVE the zoolander reference - just watched it this weekend!

anyway, smoky bars do kinda suck, but sadly i've gotten used to them! i just called the admissions office to ask about how to dress for various events and tried to find out if the students are taking us out on the town...still not sure, but i'm guessing they'll probably take us somewhere to get drinks in us.
