That makes sense to me too.
So is it ok if we, er... they aren't drunk? 😛
If they're as cute as you, it would be fine whether they're drunk or not. 😉 😍 But unfortunately, they're often old enough to be my dad, and not rich enough to buy me as their mistress. 😛

LOVE the zoolander reference - just watched it this weekend!

anyway, smoky bars do kinda suck, but sadly i've gotten used to them! i just called the admissions office to ask about how to dress for various events and tried to find out if the students are taking us out on the town...still not sure, but i'm guessing they'll probably take us somewhere to get drinks in us.

If I remember looking at the WW schedule we got sent, and I swear I remember it saying something along the lines of "alternate evening activites." Which is a diplomatic way of saying something... what that is I can only imagine.

have a safe trip!

We got them fancy 'lectric lights too! 😛

haha, no offense intended 🙂

the only reason I ask is because I did a summer program a few years ago in Boston, and I broght a frisbee with me... I was able to convince enough people to play with me, and nearly everyone that came from the midwest was pissed off at me, because (and I quote) "we didn't know there'd be this much running!"

then again, small sample size. stupid statistics.

Hhmmm, most girls don't seem to share your opinion....

Maybe it's not my looks afterall, but the "do you have a mirror in your pants" line I keep using... 😕

😀

I don't know the type of girls you typically hit on, but that line gets me hot every time. 😍 😉

Ha, my Outlook reminder for the UMich second-look just popped up! 13 days to go!

Is the laptop requirement new? I couldn't remember if current M1s all had them or not. Doesn't matter to me, as I knew I was going to get one anyways. Especially to prepare as a "physician of the future" 😀 .

I also like how iTunes is required software 👍 . Now just get me my free video iPod!

Oh, and I got the finaid estimate request email thing today, in case anyone else didn't and was wondering what's up. Said 5-7 days for an estimate.

So I got the laptop thing too, and am kinda irritated. Apparently, we are "strongly encouraged" to buy new PCs if we have Macs?!? WTF. I just bought my Powerbook last year, and definitely do not want to shell out another two grand for a new laptop. What are all you other Mac-Users doing?

Only losers use Macs, and Michigan just want you to become a winner. Come on, leave the Dark Side.

Here's my favorite part of the laptop email:
"To learn more about laptop computing at Michigan please review the attachment."

But there is no attachment!

It's an IQ test. Who here was smart enough to find the attachment???? If you don't find it, they're going to revoke your acceptance. :scared:

i don't think that's what they meant. i think it's like, if you don't have a laptop, you should get one. if you're getting one, we strongly recommend you get a PC cuz it's easier for compatibility with their programs. if you already have a PC or Mac laptop, just make sure it has all the hardware and software specs, which isn't too expensive for mac users. i actually just bought a powerbook in december, and i think the only thing that might not work that well is watching the class videos faster.

Yeah, I agree with somewhere. You don't NEED a laptop. It's just suggested.

I have to admid, BDiesel, I was going to agree that you were just being grumpy, but then I realized that was likely just because my desktop is about ready to fall apart (unless sounding like a cement mixer is normal for a healthy computer), and I'm really excited to get a laptop.

I'm sure we'll be able to ask about the laptop requirement at second-look. I'd like to see how they're going to utilize laptops in the curriculum, or if they really just want us to have them because they love technology and want us to too. And if you want a Mac, tell them they're being hypocritical requiring Apple software (iTunes), yet suggesting against Apple hardware. I think the newer macs are good at running Windows (VirtualPC, Intel chips, something like that) things, anyways...

To keep things interesting, each post we make now needs to end with some random personal detail. Movie or book you like, favorite quote or ice cream, sport you play or hate, number of holes in your socks right now, anything.

I'm wearing scrubs right now. So comfy.

Personally, I'm fine with getting a new computer. I was planning to do that anyway, b/c I've had this one since I went back to grad school. The worst thing about it is that it is not wi-fi-compatible.

I don't like sour cream or guacamole. And I really hate mayonaise. :barf:

I wanted to buy a laptop computer now but it looks like I have to wait until mid May for that sale 😡

By the way, any Welcome Weekenders wanna tell us how it went.

*I am wearing a short blue nighty which is pretty comfortable. I can get into just about any sport but I love pro baskeball, Go Pistons!. I like ketchup on my pizza.*

I have no relevant comments but I will make a confession...

I am OBSESSED with my new earrings since I got my ears pierced exactly ONE WEEK AGO. Yes, I'm 22. Yes, you are excited to meet me at Second Look.

BDiesel said:
happydays, do you mean you don't NEED a PC laptop? Cause I'm pretty sure the laptop in general is a requirement.
Well, I'm not even sure if you NEED any laptops. I just don't see why we need laptops. It's nice having portable computers, but they're heavy and I don't carry mine anyway.

Let's see, interesting things...
1. I just found out that I got a chem scholarship. I think they normally only give this out to grad students. I have no idea how I got it. Now I am a lot more motivated to finish my manuscript.
2. I had 3 shots on Saturday. One for Hep A, one hep B, one TB. On Tuesday I need to get 3 more shots, MMR, polio, and this new tetanus vaccine. :scared: (for med school and my overseas trip this summer)
3. I found a store that sells scrubs/white coats today. It's really hidden and it's next to an ethnic food store. With my own eyes, I saw our white coat. It's magnificent. (for those of you already at AA, it's on Plymouth, in the plaza with Hollywood Video and Wendy's.)

No Wayyy!!! I just got my ears pierced when I was 21! I said to myself that it's time for me to indoctrinate myself with the ways of popular culture, so after listening to Brittany Spears and watching MTV, I made my way up the ear piercing pagoda (that's the name of the store, Pagoda). Quickly I realized that I can only wear pure metals, titanium and platinum. The IRONY!

I sleep in my clothes sometimes. Actually, I've been doing that fairly often lately, because I get home and I'm just too tired to change. But under normal circumstances, I wear a t-shirt and shorts (or a sweatsuit if it's cold out, which to me means "below sixty degrees"). No pajamas, no scrubs, and no little blue nighties.

I can only wear earrings constructed of molybdenum and tungsten polymers. If you knew my research you'd think this was HI-LARIOUS!
Hook me up! I'll probably be able to wear those, too.
OrganLibrarian said:
And happydays, it's BRITNEY Spears, and she's SO preggers again. (loud, vocal sigh at happdays's lack of pop culture panache) i will indoctrinate you further. beware.
Thank you, Oh Wise One.

anyone else love a pop culture blog with their morning starbucks? (raises hand)
Are there any that's good? I've been reading USweekly, if that counts (got it for free).

This guy has a lot of free time. But it's cool; someone's got to do the dirty work.

I hope second look weekend is the **** for me, my financial aid estimate was certainly nothing but **** 👎 😡 👎 (just received it today.) I'm now realizing that all of my talk about "waiting to see all of my financial aid offers" wasn't just a bunch of hot air... 🙁 I definitely will be waiting to see what other schools present. As it stands now, I'll be getting all but nothing if I head to Ann Arbor.

My personal tidbit: while I had previously considered myself to be highly unflexible, it is incredibly how quickly the fin. aid office can get me to bend over and grab my ankles.

I'm sorry to hear that, Sail. 🙁 How much is U Mich for in-staters?

I will be submitting my thesis to the grad school in another day or two. It's about 225 pages, including 54 pages of NMR spectra, 150 pages of actual dissertation, and about 20 pages of fluff that the asinine grad school is making me include. Ok, so since we all like to ask strangers on SDN what to do for important life decisions, what do you guys think: should I spring for the $45 to get my thesis copyrighted? Or is it yet another way that the grad school has come up with to steal my money?

I asked the finaid office about this. You don't need to submit your 1040 to get an estimate of your need-based award (just submitting your FAFSA with estimates from last year should be ok). But when you want the REAL amount of grants you'll be getting, then you'll have to enter this year's info. Merit-based awards are not depended upon your finances.

Personal: I finally gave in and bought Proative. It made my skin a lot smoother! But I won't be buying it again, since it's active ingrediants can be found in many products that are heck of a lot cheaper.

But happydays, Proactiv is endorsed by Jessica Simpson! You always told me you wanted to be just like her and you were so close to reaching your goal! I'm hating watching your descent into mediocrity.
