Is that Harvard? Well, here at Michigan, our slogan is "If the Ivy's don't take you...." Very few people are like me, dead set on UMMS from day one (of undergrad).

I'm glad that you didn't post until you felt committed, so you won't let us down (which in turn spares me the time to hunt you down and...you know the rest :meanie: ). Thank you! 😀

No even worse then Harvard: Ohio State. I've got family that are huge Buckeye fans. This one is a tough pill for them to swallow. Anyone else turning the Buckeyes down to become a Wolverine?

I interviewed at OSU the Monday after I interviewed at U-M. The day after I got my acceptance from OSU, I declined it, since I'd already got into U-M. So, yes.

I really liked OSU, but nothing beats not having to move. Gooooooo Blue!

OSU was fine - actually, it was a lot like U-M, so far as I could tell - but Columbus just made me sad. I prefered Ann Arbor far and away - it's a lot like Corvallis, OR (where I went to school). I dig the small college town thing more than the get-dealt-drugs-walking-back-from-interview kind of place (you think I'm kidding, but a guy I know said this happened to him).

It's the same reason I turned down WashU, too (well, among other reasons). Ann Arbor is just plain awesome.

How about anyone else who didn't even apply to Ohio St. because they couldn't stomach being a buckeye?!? :meanie:

I'm like you, happy days! I've been set on Michigan ever since I can remember!

Yeah, you won't be dealt drugs in AA, but if you want any, it's a short drive to Ypsi. Hehehe! :meanie:

But you won't catch me with anything, because I'm an O:] (angel face). 😉

I didn't apply to Ohio State, but that is because I'm not from Ohio. 😉 I only applied to U Mich b/c I'm a former state resident....I didn't realize that some state schools take more OOS residents than mine do.

Hey guys!

I am most likely (95% sure) going to be joining you in Ann Arbor this fall! I can't attend second look (dang graduation ceremonies), but am super excited to cheer on the maize and blue come September. Any M1s interested in getting an IM flag football team together?

I'm down for IM flag football!

I also got to get on a IM bball team and then do broomball also!

I've mostly been on the pre-allo forum but decided to make the leap as it looks more probable that I'll be at Michigan. I didn't want to become committed to this thread and then all of a sudden turn around and abandon (err..betray) you for the scarlet and grey (how ironic that it came down to those two schools). Unlike football as of late, it appears that UMich has finally come through in the clutch. Hopefully this establishes a pattern that will continue while we're students!

I don't know if there is anything clutch about an IM football team, but I did play in the championship game here at BYU a couple of years ago. Sadly, I think I've become Uncle Rico since then. Any other Napoleon fans out there?

huge fan of both flag football and napoleon. if and when i get over this carpal tunnel, how much you wanna make a bet I can throw a football over them mountains?

If you see a girl wearing a bright scarlet sweater sitting in our section at the games, please be nice to her. she's my wife.

There are quite a few what they call “lifers” at the Med School / Hospital. At its base being: UM Undergrad + UM Medical, but often including + UM Residency and/or + working at the UM Hospital. My first interviewer was a “lifer,” who even grew up in suburban Detroit (like most UM Undergrads do), and currently working in Pediatric Anesthesiology at Motts Children Hospital. I am guessing that both Chopinista and happydays went to UM Undergrad (although it beats me why they were up until 3 AM Ann Arbor time posting on this thread). Also, its not like we don’t get into other places, people just get attached to the University and Ann Arbor. I wouldn’t mind being a “lifer” if they let me in already! 🙂.

By the way, happydays, did you ever get your Taco Bell date w/ Mr. Ruiz yet?

I was just at the admin office to ask about the financial aid info. they actually want you to submit your FAFSA before 3/31, but you don't have to file your taxes before then. You can submit the real figures later on; for now, the estimated figures will be ok. They will start doing estimates on your financial aid package very soon, even if you only have the estimated figures in your FAFSA. The real figures on how much you'll be getting will start sometime in May, also depending on when you file your taxes. I hope this clears it up for some people; I know I was confused.

to answer Modang: We're now engaged. I'll be a June bride!!!!

I wonder how long I can keep this joke going. hehehe
Well that's not going to help 😛 . I know you both love taco bell, but please consider something else for the catering. I am really not a fan of it. Though, I haven't tried the new salad wrap thingy, any reviews? June's getting close, I expect an invitation soon...

Did anyone else just get a "General's Visit to U of M" email, talking about Dr/Professor/Major General Schoomaker's lecture on Tuesday April 4? I was just wondering if it was the army or UofM that wanted me to know about this...

I got that email, too. It's the Army.

I'll settle for Big Ten for the Catering. The invitation will be in the mail, but first we need you all to fill out an application, then mail us a processing fee. We'll get back to you in a couple weeks after that. At the rehersal, we're going to invite ~800 people, but only ~300 will be selected to attend the real thing. We're just trying to find those who are nice and really really want to come over those who merely want to crash a wedding. Hope you all will understand.

I definitely agree with this- I grew up about 45 minutes north of ann arbor and went there for undergrad. When it came time to apply to med school, I felt it was time to move on, so I didn't even apply to Michigan. Within a few months, I realized the mistake and made it my goal to return someday. I start residency June 17th at UMich. Hope to see some of you in a couple of years when you reach your clinical years.

you're right, modanq! I'm a lifer! As for SDNing at 3 AM... I'm spending my year "off" on the West coast, so it was really 12am my time. 😉

Lies! 😉

Facebook says:

Q: Can I invite friends from other schools to join my group?

A: Facebook groups at each school exist as separate, exclusive entities. Why? Because we would like to preserve the feel of a small, closely networked community. This is one of the things that helps differentiate us (i.e. makes us more kick ass) from some similar sites, and we are very much concerned with maintaining that element.

But I can see some chicks and a gull or other seabird of some kind.

Guess I'll have to wait for a Umich email account to join +pity+

RUMOR ALERT!!!

psssst.....I. Just. Heard...that....mich is no longer in the top 10

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well....THAT'S IT. I'm rescinding my acceptance and shooting myself in the head! I can't bear to attend such a pitiful institution.

😉

PS - I'm essentially positive that my acceptance single-handedly lowered Mich's rankings. I'm terribly sorry.

No no I also helped lower the average GPA 😛

Thus when the class of 2010 is shown for admission data in usnews we will help lower it to number 12 :meanie:

It's ironic, b/c we keep building research buildings, but we haven't even been able to fill them.

Aww man, Number 11. What could have caused that. Hope the residency ranking is the same.

Seriously? Know any reasons why?

Well, most years we've been 8 or 9, then there's the occasional bad year and we drop 2 places.... I'm sure UMich can bounce back. I don't think this will make it any easier to get in for the class of 2011.

They been building them so quickly. We just finished LSI like 2 years ago, and a new research building is in the works now. LSI is not filled yet! Oh well. I'm sure this will pay off in another 5 years.

At least they're not stagnating. Well, with our research potential, happydays, those buildings should be bustling with creative ideas and cures for cancer in no time.

*I* am the one who screwed up the GPA. My undergrad GPA is a big, fat ZERO. Yup, that's right. N/A. Sigh....

You win.

Although that mcat score helps the average mcat score part then they can put average as a 14.3 🙂

True!

Our stats will effect the 2007 rankings, not the 2006 rankings.

i posted this elsewhere on sdn, but i don't know if i'll get a response. i'm going to michigan's second look, as well as a few other schools, and i'm wondering what you all are planning to wear?

i don't know if the formal suit and tie is appropriate, but then again, remick and ruiz will probably be wearing one, so shouldn't we?

what do you think?
