OFFICIAL - USC Class of 2007!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Unless there's an act of God and I get into a UC for the lower tuition 😀 , I'll be seeing you this fall.

yay!
See you in the fall!
Anyone know where they are living yet??

I'll be there next year for sure! I'm not sure where I will be living, but I'm excited to be moving to sunny LA!

GO BEARS
UC Berkeley 2003

I was thinking of living in Monterrey Hills, Pasadena or maybe even Santa Monica. I want to live with someone in my class, maybe even a house with a couple of people. See you all soon!!!

Every one of you is living in Monterrey hills, and that's final.

Anyways, congrats on getting in and deciding to come here. You'll recieve your first packet in about 2 weeks from now, with housing list in it. I've actually got to run to class, but if you have any questions, I'm happy to answer them.

PS If you live in Santa Monica, you have to get to school at 7 AM and eave at 8 PM to beat traffic. Almost everybody who lived on the west side moved halfway through the year.

count me in. and jalby, sorry if this has already been covered, but does the school put out a listing of housing for rent by students? and can we get access to that? trying to move from san francisco is going to be a pain in my butt and something like that would be really helpful.

nevermind, i just actually read what you wrote about the info coming. so just kidding.

Also the time til my vacation is over 🙁.

On a side note, we are already planning the parties you guys are going to have the first 2 weeks. (or at least where you are supposed to be each night.)

There will be parties???

yay parties!

This weekend I checked out the Monterey Hills area (by checking out, i mean i drove through it). It looks pretty nice - basically a bunch of apartment buildings on a hill, nothing much around there. But very close to the school, which would be nice, especially for the first year (ie getting used to waking up damn early!)
I think the Santa Monica commute would be rough - perhaps more doable 3rd and 4th year?

Yeah. Many many parties. My class loves to go out, and well drag you guys out the first couple of weeks.

Parties kick ass! I'm so psyched to start at USC this fall.

I also drove around Monterey Hills this weekend. I agree that it seemed nice - but it also seemed fairly expensive. 1400-1500 a month for a 2 bedroom place! Thats steep for a struggling med student that doesn't want to take out any more loans.

WHere did you all go to undergrad and when are you all moving down to LA???

i went to duke but i am from LA orginally. And I am living here now (graduated in 2002). I love this city! 🙂

Don't act like you party. If you want a few lessons in ballerdom before you head off to that place you are calling a med school, scroll down on your cellie and click send when you get to the Chron. 😉

I went to UCLA, graduated in 2000, master's same place in 2002.

Here is some advice for you guys concerning the start of school. Be moved into your apartment a week before school starts. Get everything done, baught, set up, etc, etc, etc. Once schools starts, there are so many fun activities the first few weeks that any time you take out to do housekeeping stuff is missing out on fun times. My roommate stayed on the east coast for a while and arrived the Saterday before, and he missed out on a TON of good parties/activities.

Also, there is a BBQ the wed b4 schools kicks off. I'd recommend meeting the monterrey hills people and going out with them the week before school starts (Or whoever else is around).

Alright, back to studying Musculo skeletal. Donno why I posted this like 2 months before you need the info.

i went to ucsd undergrad, graduated in 2002 and have been working in san francisco since. i'll probably be moving down a week or two before school starts, although who knows at this point since i am actually just starting to consider all this.

I went to UCSD too. I guess the Tritons will be well represented at SC next year.

ok jalby, I?m sold on living in Monterey hills . . . now I just need to find an apartment - I?ll probably come to LA to check out places around mid-July - hopefully, it won't be too hard to find a cool roommate and a building with a nice pool.

what's everyone doing over the summer?

A cool roommate and a nice pool are very key!

As of now, I'm planning to live in Monterrey Hills too - I think i'm gonna start looking in June b.c I'll be doing some east coast traveling throughout July.

 Class 2007!! congrats on getting into USC!

I look forward to see you all in August! Feel free to PM me for anything! 🙂

Hi everybody,
I've finally made up my mind to drop my waitlist and go to USC in the fall😀
Have any of you tried to find roommates on this site or are you waiting for the housing packet -and have any of you gotten the packet yet?
I'm so excited now that I've finally made a decision and actually KNOW where I'm going to be, and I'm anxious to get started apartment and roommate shopping 🙂

Bounty - I graduated from Duke in 2002 as well. We probably had a few of the same classes together. Do you know any other Dukies who will be at USC with us?

which company gives the best cell phone coverage around usc med?

Jalby asked me to pass this along since he is retired.

1. Cingular is the best coverage around USC.
2. The housing Packet with tons of cool stuff (including a personally signed letter) will be mailed out on June 1st or 2nd.

🙂

I think I'm gonna wait till we get this housing packet and then see whats up - where are you thinking about living?
I'm also getting really excited about school, especially since I am leaving my job in two weeks and I cant wait!

Anyone know how Verizon is?

I am thinking that I would like to live in S. Pas. I am waiting for the housing packet but maybe after that some of us should start talking about roommate stuff.

If there are any current USC MS out there...I hear that you really don't have to purchase every required book. Which did you find necessary???

Then can you do me a favor and let me know who you think I ought to be addressing correspondences to? Dr. Quinn? Or "admissions committee"? I'm currently wait-listed and I understand the way to work yourself off that list is to keep in touch, but I'm a little unsure about whom I should be sending stuff to. Thanks in advance.

Hi mfleur
Jalby wanted me to let you knowthat this question is specifically answered in the guide that he is sending out soon.
Hope that helps!

What made you decide on south pas?

What made you decide on south pas? [/B][/QUOTE]

I was talking to a surgical resident that went to USC. Said he wouldn't live in Monterrey hills because it is kind of out of the way and just uphill from the ghetto, but that pas is a really nice place to live. I do plan on visiting them all before I decide. What about the rest of you???

hi,

i'm eager to find a roommate and an apartment - anyone interested?

a little about me - i'm from the bay area and graduated from Brown.

i'm open to living in Monterey Hills or S. Pasadena - i'd really like to find an apartment that has a pool.

feel free to email me at [email protected] and maybe we can work something out.

I look forward to meeting some of you next year. I've lived in Monterey Hills for the past two years..... it's great to roll out of bed at 7:00 for 8:00 class. I really like the condo I live in since it has a huge patio where I have my grill, and I can entertain. Rent is reasonable........ only downside is the crime in the area. Cars that are not parked in your underground parking are not secure. Cars get stolen often. I hear gunfire outside maybe once a week, but the gunfire is usually from the area surrounding Monterey Hills (so like a few streets over). But that is to be expected when you live basically in East LA. I'm still not moving though..... the convenience of being close to two freeways and being 3 miles from campus is just too good.

And Back out of retirement I come.

I've never heard gunfire in all my time in Monterrey hills, and I live in the condos closest to the bottom of the hill. I even sleep with my door open to the patio.

As for the cars being stolen, I've heard of it happening, and I know it does every once in a while. All Condo's have indoor parking, so it's not really something to worry about. That's what you get from living a very long block from East LA. Check out the area first, and you'll see what I mean. You are isolated from any foot traffic, but people could drive up there.

If you want to talk to some people about Monterrey Hills, feel free to call (in this order would be preferred):

Me (310)293-3322
Ryan, my roommate (323)441-1922
Kirsten (323)257-0163
Natalie (323)255-4335

And out of all the people I know living in Monterrey Hills, only one person is moving next year. (most people are just keeping the same place)

K, back into retirement. And don't call til after Friday b/c we have a big test coming up.

Wow, you're lucky to not have heard gunshots in your whole year here. I live on Huntington Terraces and my fiancee and I hear them all the time. One of the soon to be 3rd years who is in my class also had her car stolen from across the street just a few weeks ago. By the time it was recovered, it was just an engine block and the frame. But like I said, I'm still not moving away from Monterey Hils. Especially now with the train coming through.

Are you on the part of the hill that is overlooking East LA?? (I.e. part of Collis or Arbolada??? The part facing where the gold line will be) That would explain it because you would have a clear range of hearing for a large part of the surrounding neighborhood.

No, but last year when Ulises and I lived on Monterey Road we heard a car slam its brakes outside and then POP POP POP POP............ and short pause and then POP POP.... and the car sped off. Pretty messed up stuff. Right now my fiancee and I live on the part of Via Marisol that is furthest from South Pasadena. So yeah..... we live close to Collis..... on the corner of Via Mia and Via Marisol. It's a great unit.... this is my view..... you can see County on the horizon.

I'm thinking about swinging by the hills of monterey next thursday a.m. to check out some places. Will anybody be in town/available then?

hey poc - let us know how your search went! 🙂

Hey,

Is anyone else getting nervous about the obscene amount of money that we are all about to spend???

It doesn't really feel like spending money................

more like signing over your life!

Yeah, considering my parents income combined barely covers tuition, I'm a bit concerned about the massive amount of debt I will have (I was kinda hoping for more than loans)...but hey, it will be worth it! 😀 I'll be getting married next summer to a student at UCLA so hopefully that will improve my package next year. See you all in August!😎

When should we be getting more info? I want to start apartment hunting soon!!!

OK then, lets talk about roommates. I would like to live with someone from my class in Pas or So. Pas; maybe even a house with a couple of people. We should all start talking. I heard that there will be a housing packet soon???

When I was about to be a first year, I met a guy at the new student reception and a few weeks later we looked for places together. June is a good time to find a place because people are moving out. Housing isn't that easy to find in the area so in my opinion it is good to start early.
