Hello to all my fellow Cavaliers out there! I know there are a lot of us creeping around here, so I'd like to get to know who I'll be spending the next four years with. I'll see you in Cville on Aug. 20!

I'll start...

Wahoo07 - Undergrad: UVA -- Residency: VA

And as an aside...where's everyone living? 🙂 I'm trying to find a place myself and it's starting to get annoying.

Hello to everyone out there... I'm a fellow member of the U.Va. Class of 2007. I've got three roommates, but none of them are med students, so I'd love to meet some folks before August rolls around. By the way, Wahoo07, I'm living at Graduate Court, which is definitely a little pricey (I wouldn't be living there except a friend of mine had already signed the lease when I decided to go to U.Va) but is a pretty nice building in a nice location (easy walk to the school/hospital). Last I knew, they still had a couple of spots available, so you may want to check it out. PM me if you want more info.

So, who else is out there?

Hi all! I'll be heading to UVA in August too. Are any of you going on VMOO? I just sent in my check; I'm hoping there are some spots left. I'm coming to Charlottesville this Saturday to look at an apartment. I don't know the name of it. It's within walking distance to the school. I look forward to meeting all of you.

I'll be joining all of you in about a month. I am excited to be going to such a great school. I am married though so I only have to dela with 1 roomate and we found our apartment about a month ago. It sounds like we are all excited to be at such a great school.

undergrad: BYU
Utah resident currently living in FL

Hello fellow Wahoos! I'm so excited about meeting everybody in August. I'm living off of Jefferson Park Avenue (JPA) with 2 non-med students. I went to UVa for undergrad, so I'm pretty familiar with the area. PM me if you have any questions about locations and etc. See ya soon!

Hi guys! I've been lurking around here for weeks but just got registered - I'm starting with y'all in August! Probably going to end up Class of '08 though, thinking of adding the extra year to get the masters in bioethics. Let's see... I'm from No. VA, went to Duke undergrad, have worked for a year at NIH and can't wait to get back to school!

I'm living in Sterling University Place with three other girls from our class - Sara, Heidi and Lauren (I'm Dayna aka Dee to some of my lazy friends who think all names should be one syllable). Brand new, bus to drop us off at the med school, how sweet is that? For the person still looking for somewhere to live, SUP has a roommate matching service, and I know other med students are going to be living there, check it out at www.sterlingliving.com or something like that.

Bump, let's hear it Cavaliers

Hey Guys,

Just saw this thread today. I'll be starting at UVa in august too. I went to duke undergrad and I'm from jersey. I'm with you aquaboy, just got married last weekend and got back from the honeymoon last night. good to know I won't be the only married one. I'm probably going to vmoo but I haven't even looked at the stuff lately because I've been so busy. I'm going to be living with my wife (can't get used to that word yet) about 10 miles away from UVa near the airport in Briarwood. It's amazing how much cheaper it gets the further you get away from the campus. Anyway, I'll be moving down in a few weeks if anyone is going to be around. If there'll be a bunch of us together down there we should at least get together and knock back a few before orientation starts.

I'm definitely in for meeting a few people before orientation starts - maybe I could drag one of my future roomies along as well. Since VMOO starts the 15th (right?) how about we say drinks one night earlier that week? Depending on if people can make it we can set details later. Enjoy your last few weeks of freedom everyone!

Did everyone get their financial aid stuff and MPN turned in. I got the tuition bill a couple of days ago (Eek!). It says the tuition is due Aug. 13. The financial aid office said we didn't have to worry about sending the money in on that date if our loan money is going to cover it. Did anyone else use the university loans? I think I will use the university loans for the first 2 years (0% interest in school, 5% after) and then if rates are still low, use that amount in unsub loans. We really are getting a great deal for such a great school and the financial aid is great!!!!!!

Yeah, I got my financial aid stuff in last week. Thank goodness for UVa scholarships! It definitely helps out a little. I was wondering myself if we needed to pay the remaining balance by August 13 if we are getting unsubsidized loans to cover what the UVa loans and scholarships don't cover. The unsubsidized stuff isn't included in the financial aid calculation (or at least I don't think it was). Does anybody know anything else?

MPN?

Seriously, my "award" letter consisted of "Student Contribution: $2,500, Parent Contribution: $36,000" and that was that - didn't even get offered the university loans. My parents just laughed.

MPN=Master Promissory Note
Sorry Dee about the financial aid situation, they should realize that we are all struggling students. Take some no interest loans from the parents if possible. I was lucky because I just turned 25 and my parents income wasn't even a factor and even if it was they couldn't contribute anything anyway. That's what saved me.

Oh, yeah, I got that sent in a while ago then. Thanks for reminding everyone tho!

My fun's been with TMS. I made my monthy payments to TMS, they sent them to Duke (my undergrad school). Now they say they can't pay UVA until Duke gives the money back 😡, and I know from experience how much Duke HATES to give money back.

regarding financial aide: Eh, what can you do? I'll come out with the average debt, be in the same boat as just about everyone else. i mean, really, who wants the easy way anyway? There's no challenge in that 😀
