HELP!!!!!! I got an interview for Hawaii!!!!!!!
I am sooooo nervous! Any interview tips! I was not planning on applying this cycle to Hawaii, but my pre-health advisor told me that I should, so I took a chance and applied really late (like two weeks ago), I just got the email 30 mins ago!!!!!!

HELP! I am sooo nervous! I am going to throw up!

Hello,

Congratulations on getting the interview! Try to calm down because this is also exciting. When is your interview and where will you be interviewing? I interviewed for the University of Hawaii at a San Francisco hotel. The good thing is that the interviewers are really nice. They want to get to know you. I was really nervous too. Please check on the interview feedback for ideas of what questions will be asked. Good luck!

jesus christ all mighty! I can't even imagine how you would react to a real emergency

Altho there's part of me that wants to respond like Caverject, you also have to take a breath & relax.

Ok - so you're a late interviewer - know that & know they are now looking very closely at their candidates.

Now...where are you from? Have you made arrangements to get to Hawaii? Its not all that easy this time of year - vacations & such. Make sure all your flights, connections to your hotel, etc. are very, very easy. This is money very well spent - you don't want to stress over not being able to get there & get a shower first (trust me - you'll need it!).

Now...we're relaxed - right!!! Know what your clothing is going to be - I don't care if its Hawaii - you need to be dressed right. So, be sure to CARRY it with you! Luggage gets lost. Tourists don't care - you do!

Now...take your personal statement, your printout of the university info you have available to you - what they're known for, what their mission statement is, whatever research their faculty is known for.....print that out & read it on your flight over. Know about the school & be prepared to answer the question "What question do you have for us?"

Now - think about - why do you want to be a pharmacist? Why at this school? Don't answer - lifestyle, money, hours - answer something about changing perceptions of medication usage, facilitating better rx usage within hospital & community settings, whatever - DO NOT USE LIFESTYLE.

Now - relax!!! Have a Mai Tai or whatever else is appropriate & good luck!!! The emergencies will come later!

At your excitement level I seriously recommend: run two laps (not jog!), twenty push-ups and twenty sit-ups, finish with a 30-minute yoga routine!
OK, that should calm you down, somewhat!

Study your resume and answers to your supplemental questions like the back of your hand - you will be tested on them.

Before the interview take several deep breaths and hold them for at least, five seconds and exhale very slowly - that seems to calm most of us down!

Speak very slowly when answering questions and don't rush! The excitement tends to make your mouth go g'zillion miles an hour! Take your time....think of your interviewer/s as being naked in front of you - stare at them - fixed in their eyes - do not fidget with your hands or feet - their cool looks can be deceiving - they are watching you like a hawk. All you have to do is stare back -do not shift your eyes to look elsewhere when answering a question - esp. "Why Pharmacy?" It could be disastrous. Not to scare you but this is a proven tactic.

Don't wear very tight clothes - first it is humid in Hawaii and second it bumps up your BP and anxiety level!

These pointers are only useful if you heed them.......Now, go get them tiger!!
Of course, Good Luck! :luck:

They are still taking applications for fall 2007??? that's really late.

Thanks for all the great advice! I am calm... sort of.

CONGRATS!

for my interview, i practiced the interview for a few days, read up on interview tips, found this site 😉.... just have confidence in yourself, recall everything that drove you towards pharmacy and just know if you tell them you'd be a good asset to their school, they'll believe it. no doubts, only assurance!!! go get em!

Also, check out the studentdoc forums for the interview forums...people usually post questions that they have encountered for your particular school. Those questions are really helpful, so be sure you can respond naturally to all of those questions.

In addition to all the great advice above, think about good questions that you can ask the interviewer. Do your research; if you happen to know your interviewer's name, see if you can find out anything that you can make a connection with. When i went to interview for Maryland, I perused all the bios of the faculty members while i was on my flight there...lucky for me, I hit the jackpot and I remembered something that my faculty interviewer was involved in. It goes a long way if you can show you're just as invested in the interviewer and the school as they are in you. Ask them questions that make them feel you're SERIOUS about attending that particular institution (i.e., location, transportation, availability of internships, etc.etc.) You want them to know that you are going there because their institution is special, not because you're desperate (regardless of your true feelings =P).

Most importantly, remember this: the interview isn't out to "GET" you. They're there to find out more about you. You've already PASSED the first round by getting to the interview. Now it's all about impressing them and demonstrating to them why you deserve to go there instead of the other 6 people. Talk about yourself; don't assume that because it's on your resume that they'll have read it. Don't be too upfront and tight, but at the same time, make sure they know that you know your strengths, you know your weaknesses, and you know how to play your cards so that you are a valued addition to their community.
