I think what actually caused concern though is that this particular strain actually expresses a more virulent cholera toxin than the Latin American strain they were assuming to be the cause...not just that it's a different strain in general.
Yes, yes. I wrote a four page report about it for advanced microbiology this year, so I'm especially well-versed on this particular topic. I mostly talked about how the toxins are secreted and how quorum sensing is used to signal the timing for different events during the infection. We also had a question on the final about the Vibrio's use of two-component systems for flagella formation...
Man, I'm gonna miss that class.
