Ohio Applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think what actually caused concern though is that this particular strain actually expresses a more virulent cholera toxin than the Latin American strain they were assuming to be the cause...not just that it's a different strain in general.

Yes, yes. I wrote a four page report about it for advanced microbiology this year, so I'm especially well-versed on this particular topic. I mostly talked about how the toxins are secreted and how quorum sensing is used to signal the timing for different events during the infection. We also had a question on the final about the Vibrio's use of two-component systems for flagella formation...

Man, I'm gonna miss that class.

Interview went very well.... I have my fingers crossed and have a really good feeling about this all. Best of luck to everyone else that interviewed today... and every other day for that matter.

One more day of this round of interviews... they said there would be some sporadically thrown in through the next few months, but no huge wave.... Adcomm meets Tuesday. Here's hoping for wonderful Christmas presents for us all!

That's GREAT news, Penny!!! :xf::xf::xf: for ya (and everyone else of course)!!

Gosh, it's been a WONDERFUL day for SDNers!!

And thanks for the glimmer of hope... The word sporadic is just enough to keep me going for now. I'm really hoping that they give me a chance.

Squibby: OMG I think my fly was down my ENTIRE interview.

EllieG: :lame:.........😆

Such a brat you are. 😉

So, my interview was at 11:15 this morning. I was feeling really anxious about The List (of questions) EllieG posted, and scared to death that I would screw it all up.

I waited till about 10:40 or so to arrive b/c I didn't want to sit with a bunch of other anxious people. Figured that would only make things worse.

I went to check in, and they thought I was an interviewer! That threw me for a minute.

Anyhoo, I had it a ton easier than the younger applicants. My interviewers were super nice. Can't remember names. 2 women. One was an equine vet. The other a neurologist. They mentioned The List, but they said it was really directed at the younger people because it asked about demonstrations of leadership, dealing with stress, and other questions designed to assess maturity and whatnot. They kind of half-heartedly asked what other things a DVM could do besides work in a SA clinic, but we had already talked about some of those other options just in chatting about my experience. I didn't get asked about zoonotics, or current events, or any of the stuff that a lot of you were asked about (and some of you were virtually grilled about!)

So, all in all, it was really a piece of cake for me. And I really enjoyed the tour. The two big auditoriums were well lit and had comfy chairs. The anatomy lab was very nice, and I was impressed that each table gets to dissect an entire horse. Don't know about other schools, but I know you don't get that at CSU. OSU doesn't have computers at each table the way CSU does, so you can't use the awesome dvd on canine dissection that Dr. Whalen (from CSU) created (and I know he's doing one for the equine as well), so that was a little disappointing, but definitely not a deal breaker in my mind, especially with everything else being so impressive. Really did like this school. Hopin' to get an acceptance!

OMG WE WERE SUPPOSED TO CHECK IN? :scared:

I totally didn't do that...I just walked in and went to sit down in the Grand Lounge. They did come out and call my name and I did stand up at that time lol So I guess they eventually discovered I was there.

LSD I think we had one of the same interviewers. The neurologist. Did she have short blond hair and wear little makeup? If so we probably had the same one. If I were to think that my interviewers played good cop/bad cop she was the good cop.

Glad it went really well for you and that you didn't get grilled! I actually liked having those list questions for myself because I had answers to almost everything, but I didn't like having questions of The List so much because the interview felt so mechanical and awkward. Le sigh. I should just take my best friend's advice and quit talking about it.

HaHa, well obviously checking in wasn't really required. Good thing, huh?

Um...the neurologist did indeed have very short hair, but I would not characterize it as blonde. I was thinking more of reddish brown. Guess we're demonstrating why eyewitness accounts are unreliable!

At least you were uber-prepared for The List. I certainly wasn't prepared well enough for it, so it worked out for both of us. Hope we both get in! And Pennyonthefloor too! We'd make a rockin' class!

Congrats everyone who has already had their interviews!! 😀
For my interview last year, I had an equine vet, and it was awesome. She was dressed in jeans and a sweatshirt, and (being a jean girl myself) that made me feel totally relaxed.
I'll be around tomorrow as a student ambassador!

My interview was at 10:30 today. I think it went well - thank you so much to everyone that posted feedback; it was a huge help. No phone call tonight (I guess I'm not one of the lucky few) but I got an invite from Mississippi for an interview, so there's still cause for celebration!

Um, jealous! How old are you LD? I guess 30 isn't old enough for them to forgo the drilling, as boy was I tested!

(nevermind I just looked at the other thread and saw your age)

Nah, squibby, you aren't old enough yet to be in the "Old Fart" category with LSD 😉

hey guys, i was just wondering if anyone else was interviewed by an older man and brown haired woman.

i wanted to send a thank you to my interviewers but i can't seem to find a faculty page with pictures :lame:, i thought the guys name was dr. gordon but i can't find him onlineee

I don't know about your interviewers, but is anyone else doing that, sending a thank you?

I thought about it, but I can only identify one of mine for sure. The other I think I know who she is but I'm not certain. I guess I could always call. I'll ask my mom. She is the etiquette queen.

Could've been him... http://vet.osu.edu/gordon-eric

i don't think thats him, unless that's like a 40 year old picture, my tour guide said that she sent thank you emails n encouraged it, so i wanted to, but idk if it'll happen now

I'm normally really big on etiquette, but in this case, I'm not writing thank you notes. They interviewed 400 people.

No one EVER calls my phone. Everyone always texts me. So when my phone rang today in walmart I nearly had a heart attack. I've never been more disappointed to hear from my best friend :-/

I think I also had it a bit easier b/c I ran my own business for many years. It would've been silly to ask me questions about leadership, dealing with stress, etc.

BRAT!

That seems kinda stalker-like: you've never contacted me personally, but I looked up your email address online and now I'm emailing you because I hope it will help my chances of getting in.

squibby: if you wore the chicken costume your fly wouldn't have been down.

just sayin....

You are right. Darn-it!

I still have my interview at Kansas in Jan. Maybe I'll change the pleather track suit to a nice dress suit. Skirt or pants? I'll have to look into that...

I did find this knitted suit:

Hello all! I interviewed yesterday afternoon and got a phone call shortly thereafter offering me a seat in the class of 2015! If any of you interviewed yesterday as well, thank you for being so kind and friendly. I wish you all the best of luck and hope to be spending some time with you as my future classmates!

Thanks! I'm OOS. Yeah, during the presentations they said they planned on meeting on Tuesday to discuss all the applicants. So you should be hearing soon!

Thinking lots of happy thoughts for some early Christmas presents for everyone waiting to hear from OSU!! Good luck and I can't wait to hear all the good news next week:luck: You guys are the best and they'd be crazy not to love you!!😍

I interviewed Saturday and watched my phone like a hawk afterwards for hours... no news, but here's hoping for something before Christmas! :xf::xf::xf::xf::xf:

Nice! Congrats! One of the lucky ones.

Yeah.... hoping for the best for everyone who is on the chopping block before the Admissions Committee tomorrow.....

This time tomorrow the adcom will be meeting to determine a bunch of our fates :scared:

EllieG - As you're normally in the 'know', I'm wondering if you know if this includes those of us still treading water in the 'pool'. Granted, I have enough to worry about right now, but I can't help but continue to be :scared: by OSU. I REALLY want an interview; and each day that my status remains unchanged makes me feel more in the dark...

As for those of you who have interviewed and are waiting to hear:

:xf::luck::luck::luck::luck::xf: I'm routing for you ALL!!!

Okay, I'll be completely honest with you. As far as I know, the interviews they are doing in January are already set and were not from "the pool" but a few people who were out of the country on a study abroad trip and could not interview during the times they had set. That's what I assumed they meant when they said they were still doing some interviews in January, and I personally know two of the people who are on the trip and not interviewing until January.

HOWEVER, that does not mean I'm right. The fact that you haven't received a rejection yet and the fact that your status hasn't changed yet seems like a good sign, although they DID say they wouldn't send out rejections until after the holidays.

My advice, then, I guess would be to give them a call. They're usually really nice and it can't hurt. At least you could maybe get a definitive answer? :xf: for you!!

I wish they'd just TELL us if we're rejected instead of leaving us in limbo, honestly.

LMMS, if you do call, let us know. Those of us in purgatory want updates!

Oh definitely. That's how I feel about possibly getting rejected. Since they said most acceptances go out this week but they aren't sending rejections till after the holidays, does that mean that if I don't get an acceptance this week that I can be pretty sure I'm rejected? I mean, let's just rip that band aid off already!

Thanks so much, EllieG! And thanks for your honesty as well - greatly appreciated in stressful times. 🙂

Well, my ochem final is tomorrow night; so I don't think I'll be calling them. The last thing I need before that exam is another downer. However, if I'm feeling 'saucy' on Wednesday (and have the time), I'll give them a jingle from work. If I do, I'll be sure to pass on the 'word'.

Good thoughts heading out to all for tomorrow. :luck:

Not going to be an issue for you, EllieG. You're getting in, dammit! 😀

So just out of curiosity, does anyone know why our "Ohio Applicants!" thread has 4-5 times the number of posts than all the other schools? Is it because we interview earlier, or more people apply to OSU, or because we all are a little more nuts😀? Thinking lots of happy thoughts for you guys tomorrow!! :luck:

Oh, I suspect the other threads will be hoppin once their interviews start happening. Which is not to say that all of us OSU applicants aren't NUTS. 😉

I want an acceptance from Ohio SO BAD!!! :xf:

I'm trying not to freak out today... I really am..... my boyfriend sat me down last night and tried to give me the whole "i know this is stressful, I'm here for you but you need to stop letting this control your every thought" speech..... easy for him to say. I will admit that I've been extremely on edge over the past week or so (constantly having the "did i say that right?" Or "am I good enough?" line of questioning running in the background of my mind....). I don't get it... I'm more stressed just waiting now than i was on interview day.....

*sigh*

Hoping for good news!

I feel so sorry for our significant others during this application process. I would want to slap myself if I was anyone else.

So for those of us anticipating a call today, I'm pretty sure it's not reasonable to expect them to call everyone today, right? I'm contemplating leaving my phone at home today so that I can just forget about it.

Definitely. My girlfriend had been SO patient with me through this whole process. She hasn't complained once. My mother on the other hand, pretty much tells me to shut up now any time I mention it lol

And yeah, Squib, I think it's unreasonable to think they'll call everyone today. I think they'll probably be making some calls throughout the rest of the week since they said they'd be making the majority of acceptances "by the end of the week" not "on Tuesday."

I've got no email and no status change so I guess that's a good thing. No news is good news, no news is good news, no news is good news :xf::xf::xf:

Yeah... I know the b/f wants to smack me most days... *sigh*

I don't know how long their meeting will be (I'm trying to get some inside info.... but my resource won't cave!).... It all depends on how they decide to do calling. I mean, some faculty members that have actually interviewed people and that sit on the AdComm will personally call the people they interviewed. That takes the burden off of just one person calling...

I'd like to think we'd get a phone call today.... :luck:

Not sure whether this means anything for anyone else but they finally updated my portal status. My application was still listed as "in review" even though I was accepted on the 10th. It has now been changed to 'decision' and congrats you've been accepted, etc. The required items list now includes several fees due by the 15th of April- a "professional career accept fee" and a "professional vet med deposit". Again, not sure whether they've updated many of the portals or just a few so DON'T PANIC and rush to the portal. Just thought I'd toss it out there.
Good luck to everyone waiting! I'm hoping to see the acceptance thread explode in the next few days! :luck:

Hah, this whole time I haven't had access to that portal because the email with the sign-in info never got to me.
Did anyone else's change?
