Ohio Applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So much commotion, and now our thread has died. Shedding a little tear....

I know. Everyone disappeared. My cable and Internet are down at home, for the second time this month, and I get eye strain if I surf the web too much on my iPhone. That's my excuse. Merry Christmas Eve!! Hopefully everyone is off celebrating.

Merry Christmas Eve to everyone!

My portal still says "In Review" hope the acceptance e-mail wasn't a mistake! =P

Wow, I was looking at housing in Ohio and it is so sooooo cheap!!! I live around San Francisco and homes are about 5x as expensive and twice as small. I may as well buy myself a house if I decide to go to OSU and rent out the rooms.

No kidding. Except how do you get a home loan when you will be living off loans for four years? You applied to Davis too, I'm sure. Where else?

I hope everybody had a wonderful Christmas Eve and has a very Merry Christmas tomorrow.

We had our Christmas Eve celebration with my mom's side of the family tonight and it was wonderful <3 Lots of great food and great conversation and for the first time EVER the questions about vet school were VERY welcome!! I had a lot of fun and I'm just feeling very relaxed and complete now.

Also...it's not wrong for people who just got accepted to vet school to wear footie pajamas on Christmas Eve is it? I didn't think so.

P.S. Hey squibby, if my fly was down on these danged footie pajamas we'd REALLY have a problem...it's one long fly.

Alright, so we've got Squibby and EllieG running around with their flies down, and I went out to the parking lot after my interview and stripped to my underwear so I could wear something more comfy for the tour. That means we've potentially got at least 3 exhibitionists in the class of 2015. Sounds like a rockin group to me! 😛

I'm pretty sure that these things would only add to your application...everyone needs to be able to have a laugh, and really it just made you stand out among the crowd! Also- these are reasons why I would really love to be your classmates! hahahah I can't wait for the rest of the schools to have interviews so I have some ridiculous stories to add...

EllieG are those one-piece PJs with feet!? I'm so jealous. I asked for some for xmas from LL Bean but doubt I will get them. And yes, that would be quite a show if your fly was down in those.

LD: Why did you wait until the parking lot? At least in the lobby it wouldn't have been so chilly. 😉

Aside from my fly, the thing I'm more embarrassed about my interview day was when I drove EllieG and myself half way to the bookstore before I realized the parking brake in my friend's car was still on. I thought it was her 4WD that felt funny. I'm surprised you didn't bring this up EllieG.

Ehkehfemal, I triple dog dare you to show up at an interview with poppy seeds in your teeth!

YES those are the ones with the feet!!! You CANNOT go to Davis because now, not only must we have an ugly sweater party, but we must also have a FOOTIE PAJAMA PARTY.

And I completely forgot about the parking break thing (I mean when I learned your fly was down everything else that happened that day was erased from my memory) but now that you mention it...
I won't hold it against you though, because my mom puts her parking brake on all the time in her car and if I drive it I inevitably forget to take it off and I go lurching down the road for a mile or two before I discover what was wrong. Anyway, I'm simply HURT that you think I would bring up something embarassing that happened to you and laugh about it in from of the entirety of SDN. You musn't know me at all.

Ehkehfemal, I triple dog dare you to show up at an interview with poppy seeds in your teeth!

Squibby- despite your mild breach of etiquette here going straight to triple dog dare...I can assure you I will do my best and make sure I have a poppy seed bagel right beforehand🙂 However, I'm not going to shove them in my teeth intentionally because, really, we don't need to plan these things out, they happen way better all on their own. I mean really, 100% chance of me face planting or falling somewhere on campus. I'm really graceful, I promise. So, I will keep you updated on the status of my faux pas for sure 😀

Ah yes, but then there would have been no musical accompaniment. One must have appropriate music for a complete stripdown.

Of course! I'm thinking "Feelin' Love" by Paula Cole on the City of Angels soundtrack.

Sure that may be a good one for someone who could do a sexy pole dance, but when I dance, people try to shove a wallet between my teeth. 😳

Merry Christmas everyone! Just had a moment to catch up on here (life = crazy for the past few days....). Can I just say it's an amazing feeling to finally be able to answer the yearly holiday question from my extended family of "when do you start vet school?" withthe answer of "next fall!"
:-D

Who cares what they think, sexy is all in the mind.

Yay. I second that.

LD....uh......:whoa:

Ah that's ok, psilovethomas, you don't have to be embarrassed that I can't dance.

So, anyway, about this scholarship application. I take it that they want us to fill it out even if we aren't committed to attending yet, right? The deadline is Feb 15th (I think), and obviously we aren't all going to be 100% sure on Ohio by then if we're waiting on other schools.

Nobody likes my footie pajama party idea? 🙁

Oops. Sorry, I guess the fact that I think it's a brilliant idea got left out of one of my posts. Do they make them with the drop bottom still? You know so you don't have to unzip it to go to the bathroom.

LD: Haven't gotten the paperwork yet, but that's what I would assume.

Is the scholarship application that $10,000 amount for OOS students they were talking about in the financial aid discussion? Or is it something unrelated?

BTW, some of the questions are confusing, like they are assuming you're already attending (What was your last reported GPA in vet school, have you taken out loans to cover costs, etc.)... do we leave those blank or what?

Fill this form out regardless! Pretty sure out of state students are given this 10,000 scholarship automatically even without this form....but with this form you are considered for additional scholarships...if you will be a first year then fill in your undergrad information for questions such as GPA (and if you plan on taking out loans to cover costs then answer 'yes')...the more you fill out, the more scholarships they can consider you for!

Yep, that's the one I was talking about, and I presumed it was the one that was mentioned in the fin aid discussion at the school. I'll have to look more closely at the application. From what you've said, teatime, it sounds like I may have to call them to ask how they want me to fill it out since I'm not coming directly from an undergrad degree. I just really don't feel like looking at another application for anything so soon after all those vet school apps!

Still having gotten my official letter of acceptance. Hoping it comes today..... is anyone else still waiting for this?

I haven't gotten mine yet either, I'm not sure if it will be sent to my current address or permanent one.. anyone know?

I checked my Buckeyelink this afternoon and the due date for the Professional Acceptance Fee changed from 1/1/2011 to 4/15/2011. I had already emailed the Professional Admissions Office and they said everyone's should/will change to 4/15/2011.

Thought I would pop by one last time to let you all know that I've been rejected but wish you all the best of luck at OSU this coming fall. :luck: You guys are a great group; and I'm sorry that I didn't get the chance to meet any of you during this journey. Got get 'em!!!!

Oh man, I'm sorry LMMS. 🙁

Sorry to hear! Don't give up hope. I say that from experience. I've applied three times and FINALLY got in this year. If this is your dream, keep pursuing it!

Oh good, they waited until after Christmas to reject me. 🙄

So much for my IS! Too bad, you guys are a super fun bunch.

Yeah - 'Let's wait 'till after Christmas! It will hurt less'. Just like pulling off a band-aid slowly. Ouch! Perhaps they have something against us folks from NJ? 😎

Squibby and Penny - thanks. I appreciate it a great deal. And Penny, thanks for the vote of confidence, but I already swore to myself that this would be the last go round for me (not getting into the details until ALL the rejections are in place). However, that being said, I should probably mention that my reason for going into vet med is multi faceted and the main reason I applied to OSU was for the Masters of Veterinary Public Health. I've been toying with perhaps applying to the program independently; but that's a whole 'nother ball of wax...

Right? Even after I've suffered four years living in Cleveland! I was expecting it, but it still sucks. Fingers crossed for some good news coming soon? Hopefully for both of us.

Oh, dang it! So sorry, LMMS & Whyevernot. Was hoping you two would be able to join the class.

Keeping my fingers crossed that you both get good news from another school! 👍

I hate to hear of someone giving up...so I say go for the MPH.

Quick general question. I was wondering if those of you who have 1 pre-req to complete during the spring semester this year see the requirement listed anywhere (like your portal or in the acceptance letter). I have one more pre-req to finish but I'm not seeing the notification in my portal.
I also can't check my acceptance letter because I'm pretty sure it's waiting for me in State College and I'm at home on break. :bang:

FYI- if you have ANY questions about the MPH-VPH program, please don't hesitate to PM me. I've been through it and I can't say enough positive about my experiences. Highly recommend it.

I 1,000% agree with Penny. I'm in the MPH class one year behind her and I've loved it! I applied to OSU's CVM as an OOS three years ago and was rejected. When I heard about the MPH program, I took a chance and moved here to Columbus. After I had completed the first year of the program, I re-applied to OSU's CVM as IS and was accepted right after my interview.

If your dream is to go to OSU's CVM, definitely check out this program. You get the chance to take Veterinary Preventive Medicine classes (which you would be able to take as vet school electives) and network with instructors and administators at the vet school. The program director is also extremely supportive and protective of his students and I think you'll get more out of a MPH here than anywhere else.

So I called in today and found out that I have been wait listed. The woman on the phone said I was within the top five. However, I am IS so I know my chances are def. less than if I was in the oos wait list. I've been searching all over sdn and looking at the wait list threads from the past years and I haven't been able to find much activity related to the IS wait list. Does anyone know what my chances are of getting in this year? Or how far down they typically go on the IS wait list? Thanks.

nyrriki - I don't have any experience with OSU's waitlist, but I was an alternate at Tufts last year. Does OSU rank, so you know you're the 4th or whatever on the list?

Being waitlisted is really unpredictable. Some years, schools go really, really far down the waitlist. Some years no one gets called. Unfortunately there is just no way to predict what will happen. Just be happy that you still have a shot, but be prepared for nothing to happen.

Thanks LSD!! See you got another interview... YAY!! :woot: It's awesome that you'll have your pick of schools!! Way to go!!!!!

I hate to hear of someone giving up...so I say go for the MPH.

Squibby - It's not that I'm looking to 'give up', it more that I have face reality. After all, there's only so much time on this Earth. Again, things I'll get into if/when that time comes. Until then, thanks the support. MPH-VPH is still up for debate. 🙂

Now, Penny, Evie - my goodness!!!! Really, it's THAT good of a program? Well, I guess it would be... After all, they are the ONLY VPH in the country; and having looked at ALL the schools that offer a DVM/MPH final goal, OSU topped my list. Their vast instruction of zoonotic illness is amazing. Penny, I do have a few questions that I'm certain you can answer; so many thanks for the offer. Look to hear from me sometime soon.

Again, thanks to all for all the 😍. You're one GREAT group!!

And for the record: EllieG - footie PJ's ROCK!!! 😀

And if I remember correctly from the morning I spent wandering around the Ohio campus, the public health building is right across the river from the vet school, so you could still come over and play!

So sorry for everybody who got bad news after the holiday =( You guys are totally awesome and OSU doesn't know what it's missing!!

LMMS, I really hope you consider the MPH program and come play with us!

LSD, I notice that you got another interview! That's totally awesome buuuttt...you're still coming to OSU 😛

So I'm one of the ones who NEVER got a log in page with status and what not.. does anyone know what my next step should be in activating an account after I received my acceptance.. and how I would go about the scholarship app? Thanks

And I gotta say, the footie pajama party is a pretty big draw.
