I'm glad we could help. I love Ohio State and hope that you have as great of an experience as I did with the university. If you ever are looking for advice about profs in the MPH-VPH program (or are looking for additional resources for courses...), don't hesitate to ask. Recently I got an e-mail to participate in student orientation for the MPH-VPH program.... thought about driving down to C-bus to do it.... not sure yet....
 
Have any of you called about those questions on the scholarship application form?

I'm curious and wondering if any of you know whether Ohio overaccepts for their seats in addition to having a waitlist. If I remember from out talk before interviews they overaccept, it just seems weird to do that and waitlist.

I think Dr. Sander, during the talk on interview day, said they accept a certain number based on the statistical average of how many people turn down their offer of admission each year. And then there's a waitlist.

I dunno, it seems dumb to overaccept. Then again, I am an overly cautious person, so if I were in charge I would just be more comfortable accepting the first 40 (or 50, or however many OSS) and then waiting for them to drop off before accepting anyone else. Same with IS. Just seems...safer.

I thought they specifically said that they are legally bound to keep a spot open for all accepted students until the deadline in April...?

If I remember the lecture from Dr. Sander, yes... that is correct. I could be completely wrong but I'm fairly certain that's what she said.
 
I think you guys are right about that. I certainly hope you are b/c i haven't committed yet, but Ohio is my first choice. I'm only holding back until I hear from Wisconsin, and then i have to do my final evaluation...first choice school versus less debt.

In my Oregon acceptance, they said that they overinvite and would decide based on 1st come/1st served. I figured if Ohio overinvites, they would have to do the same thing, but maybe they don't overinvite or they're just really good at guesstimating how many will choose their school.

I just don't want to have my spot taken away from me b/c i took the extra time to really think through the finances. 🙁
 
I see Ohio has announced a Facebook page. Did they make their own or is it EllieG's page?
 
Hmm...I bet it's my Facebook page they announced because I've gotten a HUGE influx of people who have asked to join today. Where did they announce it?

That just seems so wrong. They can't take away your spot until April 15th!
Maybe I will call them.

And EllieG, April put a link to your FB page on an email she sent out today. Also, if any of you are intent on anonymity on SDN, I'm not a member of the FB group but could see your posts with your SDN names on them. Just FYI.

Huh, I didn't get an email. Maybe it was just OOS'ers? I don't really mind who all knows who I am, but yeah if anyone else doesn't want that you can take your names off the Doc I started. Or if everyone would prefer I could make it so non-members can't see the content. Let me know what everyone thinks =)

I know how you feel. Ohio is one of my top choices, but if I get in IS, I have to go with the cheaper option. They cannot penalize people for weighing their options. I'm really surprised that Oregon does that, it puts undue pressure on the student to make a choice! This is going to be one of the biggest choices of our lives, let's make sure we make the right one.

I didn't get the email either and I'm IS. Then again, did anyone get the email who had already joined the group? Maybe since April joined the group and was able to see who has joined, she only sent the email to those who have been offered admission but aren't part of the group yet. Just a thought.

Why should non-members be seeing the content? I'm not a member yet, so I presume I'm not involved in any way, right? I don't understand how Facebook works. I opened an acct with just an email/password so I could look at a friend's pix, and Facebook immediately hacked into my email on my computer and started suggesting people for me to look up. I was appalled, and I have avoided the site since.
 
The group is an "open" group, so that means anyone with a facebook account can go to the group page and see who are members and what has been posted. It can be "closed" so that only those who are members of the group can see those things. Please correct me if I'm wrong, EllieG, since you are our awesome creator and would know more about it than I 😀
 
I haven't accepted the offer yet, but I got the email.

Even if i do accept, I'm trying to stay away from facebook in general, haha, so I probably won't be joining that group.
 
Hey Bucks!

I'm working on making a couple decisions about school right now and I was trying to remember what they said the large animal, more specifically equine caseload is like at OSU. Did anyone hear anything about that when they interviewed or have any idea where I can find this information? I really loved The Ohio when I was there and I want to make sure I'm making the right decision.

Hmm. 35,000 total caseload. 17,000 is LA (not just equine). I think.

Academically: 3rd year. Although 1st and 2nd years will have opportunities to get involved too.

Hello Everybody!!!

C/O 2015 woooooooooooooo!!!! 🙂 Just wanted to let you all know I'm pumped for september when we all get to meet! Anyone have any updates as to where to live off campus? I have 3 (large) dogs 😱 and am thinking if I can't rent then maybe I'll look into buying a house but have no idea where to look.. hELLPP!!!? anybody!!!!

You better feel special because I just peeled myself off my throne (couch) to walk across the room, open the door, and look outside. Anyway, it's currently pouring down rain on top of the 1/4 inch of ice that's coating everything. Soon as the temp. drops later tonight, it's going to be nuts out there.

Um, apparently I didn't get your advice in time, because I strayed from my throne to take my dog potty and FELL DOWN THE STAIRS AGAIN. Really, really hard this time. My back is killing me. I accidentally let go of the leash as I fell and my dog high-tailed it as fast as he could to avoid getting fallen on. Poor thing was running for his life. Luckily he stopped when I hit the bottom, and after a quick self-assessment I yelled at him to sit and he just plopped his butt down and waited for me to come get him. I guess he DOES remember his puppy kindergarten class. He sometimes likes to pretend he forgets it.

does any one know if l when your logging in you have to type yourlastname.05487 or [email protected]? Or something completely different?

If you're on facebook, there is a group that EllieG set up for c/o 2015 which has some good conversations regarding housing going. Just search for Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine Class of 2015.

There are also links to housing stuff on the OSU CVM "Incoming Class" page.

Personally, I emailed Sara Conroy because I'm in the position of needing a house for my 2 large dogs and am not looking to have a roommate since I'm old & grumpy:meanie: Sara was freakin' AWESOME (another reason LSD & squibby should come to OSU:poke:) and forwarded my email to all 4th years. 2 people emailed me and said they were looking to sell their house. I'm not in the market to buy, but if you are, PM me with you email address and I can get you in touch with them.

Also, if you read back on this thread a bit, I posted a bunch of rental companies you can look into.

The housing situation was explained to me like this: If you're looking for an apartment in one of the complexes in the area, look now because you may have to go on a waiting list. If you're looking for something a typical undergrad might rent (close to campus, don't mind living where the youngsters are, etc.), look now because properties that are typically rented to students are being rented now. If you're looking for something more residential that a non-student might rent, you'll probably have to wait a bit because these properties don't typically get listed for rent until the current tenant has given their notice.

Go to https://acctmgt.service.ohio-state.edu/Email.html & click on "Activate Buckeye Mail" and you can activate your buckeyemail account, which you can then log into it from Hotmail as ElliG had mentioned.
 
Not to threadjack here, but I figured since many of your are in Ohio, perhaps you could help. I'm sure many of you have already seen this, but for those who haven't.
