Hello, does anyone know how to check the status of our application to OSU? I submitted my VMCAS and supplemental application. Do they email us with updates? Thanks - good luck to everyone applying!

Hi, does anyone know any current Ohio students that would be available to answer questions about the program?
I just started VME 1 I can answer some stuff if still needed

You typically will not hear back from OSU until mid-December. OSU does have a portal via buckeye link but they don't really use it for application updates. Those will come from the CVM office of admissions

The supplemental application isn't long, correct? Still waiting for my link!

Is OSU GPA heavy on their application, does anyone know? My GPA is lower but I have a lot of experience to balance it out. Deciding whether or not it's worth submitting my application or not since it seems most of their students have much higher GPAs

As a current VME2 that had a relatively low cumulative gpa, I say go for it! tOSU was a last minute add for me when I was applying because I thought the same thing but I’m SO happy I did it anyway.

Thank you!! Any application advice that you’d be able to pass along? It’s my in state school so I’d love to apply but I feel like I’ve heard a lot about how difficult it is to get in! I know their overall GPA min is 3.0, but I couldn’t find anything about a science overall GPA. Do you happen to have any insight on this?

I am actually not too sure. I can tell you my science gpa was higher than my overall gpa but again was not super high (I want to say 3.4/3.5 maybe?)

As far as application advice, make sure you put down all of your experiences (even if not super relevant to vet med). I truly believe that tOSU values the whole applicant and wants to see the range of experiences you’ve had that make you unique!

Thank you!! I definitely will go back and add additional experiences to help!

As ciderdoughnut said, tOSU tends to be more holistic. I got in this past cycle and didn't have a phenomenal GPA. On this account i posted my stats into the successful applicants c/o 2028. It's a great source to get a good idea of what the GPA of the current class is like! I can also say, things may be slightly easier for you as an IS applicant since the application pool for IS is smaller than OOS applicants. Good luck!

Where does it state that their overall GPA min is a 3.0?

Has anyone's portal updated or changed past just the "managing identity" on the home page?

My portal hasn't changed since I submitted my application. It currently states "Application Status: In Review". Is the "managing identity" the next step, what does that mean?

I haven't even seen a supplemental application show up on my portal yet, it just opens to a page about my identity.

I got an email about the supplemental application! It gives you a specific ID to basically create a new account even if you already have one established to complete it. I haven’t checked the portal recently, but the last I did, it just said application in review.

My page is just blank and says this “

Use the navigation menu to manage your Ohio State digital identity.”

where are you seeing "application in review"? Not sure if im on the right page

You have to go to buckeyelink.osu.edu, then under prospective students, hit application center and login there. That will allow you to see your status.
Now I’m seeing that mine is in review. Thanks so much!

Has anyone received updates to their OSU portals? I just saw the email for the updated timeline.

Is there a place where we are supposed to upload our transcripts for this fall semester? thank you!

It doesn't look like there is a place to in the portal so I am just planning to email mine to admissions in December!
I believe you’re supposed to order official transcripts just like you did for VMCAS but have them sent directly to the school! I don’t know if this applies to tOSU but I know some won’t accept transcripts sent directly from applicants

Anyone else having problems accessing the application center?

I did. I am curious because I had a C+ in microbiology lecture and a C in the lab, is this considered 2 C's in the 4 capstone courses?
I must have read the requirement too literally as a C+ is different than a C, (but it is a C grade). Hopefully didn't waste a lot of time and money for both myself and the admissions office. I should have clarified before submitting. Anyone else have this?

I got an email about not having microbiology completed, but I'm taking it right now, so I believe I'm ok...? It said "If you have already planned to complete this course(s), please disregard this email." So, I'm assuming I don't have to respond.

Yes you’re okay! I had to call because I had the same issue but with biochemistry. They said they are just giving everyone time to complete the prerequisite.

Also emailed about 10:00am EST that I was missing a prerequisite I am currently in!

For anyone who talked to admissions about this: did they ask you for your specific plans to complete the pre-req (school, semester, course number, etc) or is it only to let us know to make plans or else we won’t be able to accept an offer of admission if we get one?
I know that the pre-req they emailed me about is not in the planned courses on my application, so I’m a little fuzzy if the “if you have already planned to take this course, please disregard this email” applied to me or not.

If you did not list it on your application it will be considered that you are not planning to take it. You need to contact them and confirm you are going to enroll in the course. You always need to put any missing prerequisites in your “planned” courses section on VMCAS

Are interview invites released on December 13th or until December 13th?

I was told we should receive our status email by December 20th.
Yeah I saw that too but the email we received earlier this cycle said that: "The application review process will continue until December 13th. You should receive your status email by Friday, December 20th." This made me wonder whether we would receive an update on or before December 13th and if we don't hear by December 20th, then we reach out for status updates. That's kind of how I understood it! But I could be wrong - its my first application cycle, so I am still learning about the process each day lol!

I thought it was a good sign as I did not get an email either. Then I started wondering if they only sent this to people who are progressing instead of everyone who has not met the pre reqs. Because I assume most applicants have pre reqs they are taking in senior year. Now I am just not sure. I may need to stop following these forums!! Hahaha
I wouldn’t necessarily worry about this- we don’t know what each person who received an email’s application-listed prereqs looked like- I think ideally, they’d not email anyone who had correct courses listed within their planned courses- that being said, there’s going to be people without errors who slip through if they’re just emailing people who have prereqs outstanding overall; I imagine it’s a complicated system. If you’re really worried, you can always email them, but I don’t think receiving the email is a check towards yes OR no.

It could even be who reviewed- maybe one reviewer is checking for anyone to receive an email who has any outstanding prereqs, while another reviewer is checking class by class and not sending emails for those whose planned courses meet requirements.

That’s at least my point of view. I didn’t get an email either, and I have courses outstanding, and they’ll be finished this semester. It can be hard not knowing either way but as a person who’s worked as a manager and conducted a lot of interviews and reviewed a ton of applications, I truly don’t think this means anything significant.

I fully think you are right but just feel myself over analyzing. Tough process. I believe I have a very competitive application but time will tell. Truly appreciate the well written reply. Appreciate the insights and good luck to you.
Of course! And right back at you. FWIW, I also think I have a competitive application for tOSU, if that helps you feel any better. But I truly, truly think this is just an administrative inconsistency and we ALL likely have very competitive applications in all different, diverse ways!

I guess the only thing I’d encourage would be for those who got emails with courses listed as planned in VMCAS would be to just make sure they meet the prerequisite requirements for the course. It could be that a review of that has tripped an alert - maybe it’s not transferring in their system as meeting requirements, etc.

Best of luck, my fellow nervous wrecks!

My understanding was the admissions committee will have their decisions made by the 13th, and we’ll receive notice anytime between then and the 20th! Could be wrong, but that was my interpretation

I agree, this was my interpretation as well.

You probably won’t hear back until December 20th. Ohio tends to be consistent with their dates for interviews and acceptances. The two cycles prior (2023-2024, 2022-2023) both had their interview invites and rejections released on December 21st. It’s not guaranteed that they will release them on the 20th but historically they like to release them around that date. They will send you guys an email ahead of time if they date is going to be postponed to a later date if they’re falling behind.
