Since we had to do that more in-depth supplemental this year, I imagine they are cutting down how many people they interview.

I think they are cutting down on the LENGTH of the interview, not necessarily the number of people interviewed. I didn't apply last year but I remember reading that somewhere!

Where did you get your 50% from? I was trying to find stats about the interview (how much it counts, how many people they interview, etc) but I couldn't.

this is my third time applying for vet school and my very first interview invite so needless to say im super freaking stoked!!! congrats to everyone who got an invite

I'm a second time applicant and when I did my application review earlier this year they stressed that they interview a lot of applicants, around 50%. Since we had to do that more in-depth supplemental this year, I imagine they are cutting down how many people they interview. It is probably still a fair amount though.

They are still interviewing the same amount (around 1/2 the applicants). The supplemental is to allow for more in-depth questions and to cut back on interview times. Interviews are only being offered from Dec 12th - 20th and January 5-13th where in the past they went from late November to early March. They are going from 45 minutes to half an hour, and so there are going to be a lot more interviews per day.

Has anyone actually gotten a confirmation email after selecting a date?

thats because they were probably off for thanksgiving break. I wouldnt be surprised if you get an email on monday

Yeah. That's what I figured, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one.... (After all, I am OOS and getting tix right before xmas was a bear!) I selected my date early wednesday.

Hi everyone,
Just a heads up to those who are still waiting on an interview invitation from Ohio State...

I e-mailed April in Student Recruitment yesterday, and she responded this morning to my question on whether or not invitations are still being sent out.

She responded today and said yes, interview invitations are still being sent out, and so "please don't worry". 🙂

Just thought I'd pass on the good news to any fellow applicants who haven't heard anything...

I also wanted to add that I got my confirmation e-mail today (it actually came as a 'reminder') about my interview date. I picked one out last Tuesday, so it did take a while.

Thank you Meggie1985!

Here's to both of us (as Ohio instate-ers) getting in for next fall! 😀

for those of you who have picked an interview date, beware of booking dates for flights or hotels. I chose an interview time and got a call the next day telling me there was a "glitch in the system and that day was full" so I had to reschedule. So wait until you get the confirmation/reminder email before you make anymore plans.

They must really be scraping the bottom of the barrel for applicants as I got an interview invite today as an OOS applicant.

Congrats? Do we actually know if they are sending out invites based on file scores?

I actually know nothing. My stats are clearly on the low end of what they would consider and apparently I got my invite the last day(as my response was expected in today).

For those who have scheduled interviews at ohio, does anyone know where the morning information sessions are being held? In my confirmation email for my interview, it says what building the actual interview will be held in in the afternoon, but nothing about the location for the morning sessions. Should I just assume that they're in the same building, or did anyone else receive any additional information? Thanks in advance..

Littlelisa, that same thing happened to me. I had already booked my flight, so luckily they just moved me from the 2-something time to the 3-something time. Hm, I should probably double check that time, since my interview is in 6 days! :scared:

Congrats David!

nymfn712, I was wondering the same thing. I am assuming that they are in the same building, or that it will at the very least be well marked. I plan on arriving early and (hopefully) following the signs!

Your response was expected today? Does that mean there are not offering anymore interview invitations at all?

when I received my interview invite a few weeks ago my deadline to reply was dec. 5th. so maybe as they are sending out more invites they are pushing back the deadline. I wouldn't assume yet that they're done sending out for interviews.

hi- first time hearing about this network... i am so happy i found it! osu interview next tuesday at 12:30... anyone around the same time?! im getting nervous!

I got my invite today and the email said the response was expected on December 10th.

So I picked my interview time today and got my confirmation email ~2 hours later.

So can anyone recommend which hotels are best to stay at? Also how are the public transportation options in the area? IE, from airport to hotel, hotel to school, school back to airport, etc.

Also, anyone looking to split a hotel room for Monday night, December 15th?

Thank you for that 🙂

I'm calling them first thing tomorrow morning to find out for sure. Hopefully, they're not done offereing interviews!! :scared::xf::luck:

I really don't think this is the case. I didn't get an invitation until this past Sunday, but my application status didn't change from "evaluation" to "academic review" until the Friday before. I'm pretty sure this means my application wasn't even under interview consideration until then.

I dunno...maybe this is just overconfidence on my part. I think I have a fairly strong application, aside from my GRE score, so I would be surprised to hear that my application is at the "bottom of the barrel". Something to ponder though, I guess...

My fingers are crossed for your rachroo!!!! Hang in there and let us know when you hear something! :luck::xf::luck:

To be fair, my stats are pretty bottom of the barrel, but I had also submitted my VMCAS on the last day, and my Ohio supplemental was also the latest of anyone I have seen mention.

So it very well could be in the order they received them.

Thanks Meggie1985! 🙂 I will let you know as soon as I hear/read any updated news (even if it's not so good)!

AAckk! I just checked and my status...it has said evaluation from the time I first logged on (mid Oct-ish) up until I checked it over this past weekend. Now it says: "AcadReview." Eeekk! :scared:🙂:xf:

Ooooh that's good news!!!! I am almost positive that means it's under interview consideration now. You should be hearing something soon!!

Funny story... today, in my rush to make it to a final exam on time, I almost spilled my coffee all over Ohio State's CVM dean of admissions. 😱 Seriously, I just about had a heart attack. Thank goodness I missed!! :smack:

when i talked with ms. pugh/ms. cassell in the summer, she informed me that they take applications and view them in bulks at a time... so if you happened to turn in your application the day after they took a bulk to look at, it could be a few weeks before they even pick yours up to look at. don't fret if you haven't heard!! i have ultimate hope for you!

Welcome, Badgerlove (Wisconsin reference..?)! My interview is Tuesday at 3:30. And I think nervous is an understatement for me at this point. I am freaking out!!

Looks like there's going to be a bunch of us SDNers there on Tuesday! I'm getting sooooo nervous!

It will be a good time, don't even worry about it.

What time is your interview at?

It looks like I am going to have a good 3.5 hours to kill in the afternoon before my 4:15 interview.

Wow lots of people interviewing at OSU!
Good luck to all.. and maybe I'll see you. Anyone going on Monday the 15th?

Oh about hotels... there's a Holiday Inn on Lane Ave which is across from campus... the Blackwell is the university hotel... its expensive but they offer transportation to people staying there (aka a ride to your interview). Also check out the Red Roof Inn and Hilton on Olentangy River Road. They're close to campus and are near a city bus route that goes to campus. (Check the COTA website for info) Also, if you can get on to campus the CABS bus system can drop you close to the vet school... check OSU's website under current students for CABS schedule info.

Edit: forgot to mention airport to OSU.... plenty of taxicabs to get you to and from, probably around $20 a trip, or if you want to navigate COTA from the airport to campus you can do that. Word to the wise: leave plenty of time for transfers if you go this route... they don't always run on time.

Does anyone know if there is plenty of parking on campus? I'm driving to Ohio, and I'm not sure if I should plan to walk/bus to campus from my hotel room or if it will be easy to drive.

My fingers are crossed for your rachroo!!!! Hang in there and let us know when you hear something! :luck::xf::luck:

Got a very lucky call this morning...with an invitation to interview!! 😀

This may have changed but when I interviewed there was parking but you had to feed the meter and they were vigilant about ticketing so bring quarters!

This is definitely still true! There's plenty of parking all around campus. Just make sure you park in visitor parking and bring lots of quarters because they are very very vigilant about the parking situation.

Congrats and good luck everyone!

They changed the parking system. You can now park in any of the spots (not just the metered spot) and there is a credit card machine where you can choose how many hours to pay for.

Thanks everybody! I'll bring a bag of quarters in addition to my credit card just in case. 🙂

Side note, one of my friends had her interview today at OSU (early because she's leaving for a study abroad) and GOT ACCEPTED yay! So best of luck to everyone and remember- if you had a amazing interview, stick around for a few minutes because they might just tell you you're in! (Oh the joys of rolling admissions!)

Tell your friend to go post over in the interview feedback section (and congrats)!

I was trying to find stats about the interview (how much it counts, how many people they interview, etc) but I couldn't.

The VMSAR books says for evaluation criteria:

Grades 35%
Test Scores 10%
Interview 55%

Would still love to know how many applied and how many they are interviewing.

Somewhere it was explained that the 55% actually includes your experiences, essays, evaluation & interview. (Can't remember where I saw that on SDN & feelin too lazy to find it)

If that's wrong, I don't want to know-Way too scary to think that just 30min will determine 55% of our scores! Don't know about the rest of you, but I'm ridiculously anxious about this interview 😱

I left out the * on the interview section:

"Preferred applicants are interviewed and evaluated by members of the Admissions Committee. The academic interview covers subjective areas such as academic improvement versus difficulty, communication/interpersonal skills, involvement in social and community activities, social and personal support systems, work record/financial responsibility, motivation and commitment to veterinary medicine, comprehension of veterinary medicine, knowledge of and/or exposure to animals, and references. Those applicants given the highest overall evaluation are selected for the entering class"

Don't know about the rest of you, but I'm ridiculously anxious about this interview 😱

Uhh....yeah. Me too. I am pretty much freaking out. I know I need to relax, but I can't think about anything else! I think my friends are all sick of me obsessing over it..

Congrats to your friend, buckeye!!! She must have really deserved that spot!

I still don't quite understand how rolling admissions gives everyone a fair chance. I have a feeling I'll be reading about everyone's acceptance before I even interview! What if all the spots are gone before I interview? I don't mean to sound like a whine-y little kid, I just feel like I need all the advantages I can get and we all know how emotional this process can be. How can they set the standard for who they will accept and who they won't before they meet with everyone?

I guess it's just the way things are and I have to accept it! Again good luck to everyone, at least I can hear what you all with December interviews have to say before it's my turn. 🙂

David, I'd really like those numbers too! Thanks for the percentage breakdown.

Yeah, I'm hoping that the interview will be a lot less stressful and intimidating than I'm convincing myself it will be.

Mine is at 2:45.

Yay! Ohio officially starts interviewing today!

Good Luck to everyone!!!

My interview is on the 20th. I'm getting nervous but it all still seems pretty surreal at this point.

Buckeye - congrats to your friend! How amazing..... finding out right away then leaving for a study abroad trip... that must have been the best day ever!
