OHSU "Hold" Status?

Any word from the OHSU "Hold" front? It was my understanding that the folks on that list were to be informed of a decision "no later than the middle of May." As we are now past the middle point of May, perhaps we must assume that what they intended was the middle third of May.

I called OHSU today and talked to Jennifer in the Admission office. She told me that they were working on the alternate list/hold list and will send out a mail on Monday. I hope this helps.

Would you happen to know if there is a difference between the alternate and hold lists? "Alternate" sounds like a euphemism for "waitlist" to me. Also, do you know if it is possible to get an outright acceptance after being placed on "hold?" This waiting game is quiclky becoming a complete drag!

hold list= you could be waitlisted, rejected, or if you're very lucky accepted b/c someone withdrew

What is it that makes you think that an outright acceptance is such a longshot from the "Hold" posisition? I certainly do not mean to infer that you are full of proverbial horse-manure (tone is such a tricky thing...especially on a message board :wink: ), rather I just am curious about your source of info.

When I called, the lady said that they would send out decisions at the end of the Month. Then I asked asked for a breakdown of the decisions. she said mostly waitlist and some rejections. She didn't say acceptances.

But thing w/ calling up OHSU(as trouta and I discovered) is taht you will get a diff story with a different person you talk to. One thing that's for sure is that the class is full or nearly full. (which would follow the march15th moved to march27th rule)

It is true that it might not be that big of a long shot for some applicants to be accepted outright because meals, for example, interviewed early april and was accepted early May.

MONDAY!!! Im leaving the country on Thurs and was hoping to hear before then. Oh well... I guess I will have to freak out about these things on another continent.

Hero's right though, from what I have been told, not many direct acceptances are likely to come out of the hold category.

What Jennifer told me when I interviewed was that they never over-accept the class at OHSU. After they finish interviews and reviewing all the people in the hold category, there will only be 100 offers of acceptance. Once a withdrawal occurs, they go straight down the alternate list accepting someone to fill that spot. She also said that at that point (april 2nd), only 60 acceptances had gone out so far and they had evaluated candidates who had interviewed up until mid-February. So, it seems likely to me that when they review everyone in the hold category, they will definitely make some outright acceptances because they will make enough offers to total 100 plus acceptances to replace the people who withdrew. I wouldn't be surprised if they offer 20 or more acceptances to people in the hold category.

Bottom line: Don't get bummed out now! I think you've all got a chance at getting accepted sooner than you think!

Well All,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but... I spoke with Jen @ the OHSU admissions office this afternoon, and she said that those still on "hold" are being sorted onto either the alternate or the rejection list. Therefore, the best that we can hope for is to be offered a seat that becomes vacant. I am officially beginning to regret applying so late .

Called OHSU yesterday (Tues 5/21) and Jennifer said that they were trying to get letters out that day re: hold info. So, things have been pushed back at least 1 day.

I was accepted 6 wks ago and still haven't recieved my packet yet. Only a letter. So many of the people that have been accepted have not even had the opportunity to turn down their acceptances--i.e. spots will open up soon!
