I took the PTCE for the second time today, and to my surprise they gave be a pass/fail status at the end of my test! I'm guessing that's new, well since the last time I failed =[. BUT to my surprise I passed!!! =] so you will now get a pass/fail status at the end of your test, saves the great 3 weeks of waiting for your results by computer or mail =]!!

It is great to have that accomplishment under your belt.

PTCE is not that bad. My scores were surprisingly high for only two weeks of study.

I just read mosby and focused on doing my metric conversion faster.

so you had no prior practice besides those two weeks?
how did you sign up for the test? was there a fee?

can i do it? (im still in my cc and i havent taken any bio classes/chem classes yet)

THe bulk of it is math. Know the math and your set. Its not that bad

I think the site is ptcb.org or something like that. Just google it. When I did it, it was a little over $100 iirc

You don't really need chem and bio classes. However, experience with stoichiometry will help a lot. The questions asked were not like A & P questions. There were a lot of questions that require conversion between ml to tablespoons etc.. If you had Gen Chem I, doing these calculations will be easy.

BTW, I have a B.A in Chemistry.
It might have made a difference.

I would say focus on the math conversions and law. There is no way for you study up and know all the drug names. I would recommend just studying the drug classes and studying up on their endings and what each ending usually does. The test isn't too stressful, so I wouldn't worry too much. 🙂

Oh ok thanks. What you mean by math law? like different properties of math or ?

math conversions and pharmacy laws (HIPPA) and such.
Sorry if my response confused you
If you have not worked at a pharmacy, I would go out and purchase a review book. I personally have not worked as a pharmacy tech, but had a friend that worked at Walgreens and used the books Walgreens gave to their employees to study for the test and passed it.

Ok. Well I have volunteered in a pharmacy for over couple months to see if i fit the environment and so I have finally decided that I should take the pharm tech exam.

Do you know what book Walgreens gave to your friend?

I don't remember, it was their own book so I don't think it could be purchased anywhere.....

ok.. and also..

I just read on Pearson's website that From April 1st they offer continuous testing... does that mean I can apply tomorrow and take it tomorrow?

if there is a location close to you that is offering the test tomorrow yes. if i remember correctly, you put in your zip code when you register then it lists the locations closest to you proctoring the test and the days and times those places offer.
