Mine hasn't run. It doesn't get here until 3:50 p.m. centeral standard time. Yesturday, I had to leave the house. I could not stand waiting! Just as I was leaving the mailman pulled up. Poor guy, I think he wants this to be over more than I do. I ran into the house, cracked the blinds, and stared at him sorting the mail....pathetic! I will be glad when all this is over. :scared:

Frogmed, when did you interview?
I interviewed Thursday, February 10th. 😀

NO, I have a family, moving just would not work for us. Who else is planning on reapplying?

If anyone doesn’t accept me this year, I'll reapply next year. I'm going to the reapplication workshop on March 15th just in case. Is anyone else going to be there?

No red for me either. I am on the wait-list. Oh good, more waiting. 🙁 If I don't get into OU this year, I will not be reapplying. I am on OSU-COM's wait list too, but I have been accepted to KCOM. I like KCOM, just too much money. Look out Missouri, here I come! 🙄

congrat frogmed, waitlist isn't too bad, i'm sure peeps will withdraw =) 👍

the countdown continues for me..:scared:

no clue on how many they waitlist, i'm just restating what i heard on a previous post, sorry =( but i do know this:

from the ou website:
250 total interviewed
150 class-size
I think they probably would accept a bit over the class size. (170-180?) so your chances of getting in after an interview is atleast 60% (150/250) which is good! now...if they accept more than the class size....(170/250=68%) now if you add in those waitlisted, the chances are not as bad as we all think, 👍

hope this info makes everyone feels a bit better 🙂
keep your hopes up! :luck:
In the letter I received today, it states there are 35 on the wait list. That isn't too many. I'm surprised. Someone told me (don't remember who - so may not be reliable) all of OU's wait list was admitted for 2004-2005.

Can someone explain the Tulsa option to me? The acceptance packet included a disclaimer that said students can be "assigned" to Tulsa for the clinical years. From what I understood, there were plenty of primary care interested students that wanted to go to Tulsa. Is Tulsa actually just smaller clinics or is there a tertiary care center there too? Also, is there any way to get out of it if you are assigned? I ask because I'm interested in surgery and need to be somewhere where I can get plenty of exposure to surgical specialties. I'd appreciate it if someone could clarify this for me? Thanks.

Yeah, this is a little confusing.

First things first-YOU WILL NOT EVER BE FORCED TO MOVE TO TULSA AGAINST YOUR WILL. Technically, if half the class died or something they might make you, but to date there has NEVER been anyone "assigned" to Tulsa. You choose if you want to go or not. I hear that some years that the bigger problem stems from the fact that more want to go to T town than seats available. Secondly, you will participate in the same rotations in Tulsa that you would in OKC. I know that several major hospitals are associated with OU, but I can't remember which ones specifically-I'm sure it's on the website somewhere. The center of operations is located at the Schusterman (hope that's spelled right) center, OU's Tulsa Campus. About residencies........If you want to go into a very highly specialized field or academic medicine, you will probably be better off to stay in OKC. The bigger names and better known researchers are here for the most part. That being said, I hear that there is not a significant difference in residency availability with respect to the campus-take that for whatever it's worth. Many of our students are from the Tulsa area and they go back there primarily to be near their families. It's just another option, don't let it stress you out-I think that it is a really good thing. If you hate OKC, you'll only be required to live here for two years max. If you love it, stay here-the choice is yours. If you need more info, I would look up the dean's office at the Tulsa campus. He's a really nice guy and you'll have the opportunity to meet him this fall when you go to Tulsa for a tour. Hope that helps.

Just found this for you. It's a link to OU Tulsa's home page. They have a surgery residency on site. Here you go. 👍

anyone know if OU matches many or any in derm? i didn't see any on the match list they gave me a while back.

Hey Adsharp, thanks a ton. I just want to let you know that your continued participation on this board has been extremely helpful as we have gone through this stressful admissions process. Thanks for all your advice and insider information. I look forward to meeting you this fall.

I've heard of a few people matching in derm over the last few years. You'll have to be a the top of the class to do it though. I think that the only derm residency in OK is here. Here's their website. Three of the seven residents are OU grads. I'm sure that there were matches other places, but I don't know how to find out off of the top of my head. You might want to email Dr. Hall or someone in the administrative offices to find out the exact stats. They've always been good about answering my questions.

Edit: If you would like to email one of the residents or residency faculty, just use this formula:
[email protected].

but, yea, thanks for the insider info 👍

so I should be hearing anytime now, either today or tomorrow!!!!!!! arrrgghhhh

I also got a letter yesterday informing me that I am one of the 35 that get to continue their wait. Just wondering if they only accept 150 for the class initially, then have the 35 on the waitlist. If what was posted before was true (170-180 acceptances total - 150 initial acceptances = 20-30 from the waitlist out of 35), then our chances are actually pretty good.

You're right. I'm just really ready for all this waiting to be over. I have been worrying and waiting for this part of the process to be over for 4 years. I guess a few more months won't kill me. 🙄

hey guys, no words yet for me! man, USPS is so slow these days, so still crossing my fingers here. I'm tempted to call Ms. Shaw but I think I'll keep waiting. So today, I started looking into various masters programs. Master of Bioethics, Biomedical Communication, Social Work, Public Health, and Biotechnology (these can be completed in a year + 1 summer) at various schools.

Well, they could tell you, but then we'd have to kill you. 😀

I'm sure that it's one of those information privacy things. You'll even be given a code number at the beginning of the fall under which all of your testing will be taken and posted.

Alright. I didn't get anything in the mail yet today. My mail predictions were way way off and I feel like EJFKLE:JKSDL:JFKLSD:VJKL😀SGJOIEUOREWIUFKJVLCMX<>SDL:FJEWOUR)(#*_*@$#(U@KJFDKLFJEOW*)(#*@R*DFJKSDFJDSUF blah! (like Ned Flanders going crazy in the simpson episode on last night haha)

hahaha anyways, I should know by tomorrow. Any of you out of state applicants who interviewed in Feb received words from OU yet? spread the love and please post if you did =)

I think I'm going to call on monday if I didn't get any letters by tomorrow (just incase they mailed it to a wrong address or somethin').

Enjoy your weekends guys! Overrated, you should go out and celebrate!!!! 👍 :meanie:

Yeah, my fiancee just got her LSAT scores today and it looks like she'll be in great shape for OU Law. Just another reason for us to celebrate. It should be a great weekend. Good luck lfesiam, I can't believe you didn't get any mail yet!

Sorry you didn't hear from OU, that sucks!

Well my fellow waitlisters I found out some info for you. I had a slow day at work here at OUHSC, so I went down to the third floor to the Admissions Office and asked a few questions. Lisa Jaques confirmed that last year they held 47 people on the waitlist, and all of them eventually gained acceptance. However, she said that was very unusual. The norm is to see approximately half to three quarters of the waitlist get accepted. Also, they rank the waitlist, but that isn’t always official. For example if several out of state students’ withdrawal, they will pull an out of state applicant off the waitlist. Overall, she gave me a very positive impression of being on the waitlist. Also, she said that movement would be slow until the beginning of May to the 15th. During that time we can expect to see a lot of movement. I guess all we can do now is wait and hope others withdrawal (I kind of feel bad for hoping for that – wait no I don’t).

Yeah, the waitlist is really not a death sentence. I, along with several other people I know of, were accepted off the waitlist. I found out around the end of March that I was off. I think that is fairly soon (I was lucky!) and I would rely more on what the previous person said about the end of May.

The mods are great. I wouldn't know anybody without them. Attendence to the mod is not required except when class is being conducted in the mod. You'll have PCM on a weekly basis every month and a half or so. Also, PBLs usually happen about 4 times a semester in the mod and you've got to go to that. Primarily, the mod is a place to study, hang out, and go to eat lunch between classes. It's kinda like having your own room. You get a desk and some storage for your stuff (all locked of course)-you don't have to hang out in the mod if you don't want to. I would have to say that the mod is the best thing since sliced bread. 👍 👍

yea i think modules are great 👍 , however I think they are a bit worn down and need some renovation 👎

so no mail again today! hahaha... sigh I guess it takes quite a while to mail from OKC to Long Island, NY (I live in philly but I sent all the medschool stuff to my permanent addy). So my gf (from OKC) said that it usually takes 7-9 days to mail stuffs from OK to the northeast!!! wow.

hey ad_sharp, can we bring anything into the mods? furnitures? I remember seeing a sofa in one. (i'm think about bringing a hammock..if i do get in hahaha jk =)

Unofficially, renovation is on the way. They've formed some focus groups to look at upgrading the BSEB and mod space. One thing's for sure, it's probably the safest place above ground in the event of a tornado. They built that place to last. You can have furniture-thanks to my class. We're the first to get approval for sofas, futons, etc. I don't have any furnature in mine, but I do have a 150W stereo to listen to the punk rock :horns: We also have a mod mascot-a stuffed pheasant with fake blood, bandages, and a crutch. I have friends who sleep up there during test block 😴 . It's kinda creepy.

I already know of two people from my school who are definately withdrawing to go to other schools =)...I'm sure there will be alot of movement from the waitlist.

Also, a question for the current med students....I got a letter to apply online for scholarships, just curious as to what my chances are as a freshman (with average MCAT scores & GPA) to get some financial aid that does not include loans? Also, it asks for specialty of current interest and I'm not too sure about that (and assuming this will effect my eligibility for some scholarships) what is the best thing to go with....does it even matter?

I know the pros and cons of OU and OSU-COM have been talked about a little bit on this thread. And I know someone is going to say pick which one is the best fit for you, or something like that. But I'm still going to ask....

I've been accpeted at both of our fine state schools and I'm really torn as to which one I like better. Anyone else on here in the same situation?

I liked the atmosphere at OSU. Seemed very close-knit and maybe more laid-back and a bit friendlier than OU. But, I wasn't very impressed with their facilities. And I think it would get pretty old being in that one building all the time. I realize you spend a lot of time in the mods at OU, but you have all the hospitals and the other hsc colleges surrounding you. OU's campus just feels more like a med school to me. Plus I liked the fact that OU gives you so much info between the note groups and hippocrates that you can legitimately homeschool to a large extent. I remember OSU students saying that there was very little homeschooling there.

And as far as DO vs MD I think that I would receive a great education at either school. I would love to learn OMM, and I know that DO's are well respected and that OU goes up to Tulsa to recruit OSU students for residency spots and all that. But, I'm still worried that if I decide to pursue a competitive specialty that I might be fighting more of an uphill battle as a DO.

So, as you can tell I like a lot about both schools. Surely there are others out there with similar thoughts... So, how about sharing. I would love to hear someone else's point of view.
Thanks

p.s. I'm also posting this on the DO forum.

You may try posting in the Allo forum as well, since those in an MD program (esp. M3-4) probably have better insight into the advantages / disadvantages.

A lot of people get money. It never hurts to ask. About specialty, just say something, or don't say something. I don't think that your statement is going to be binding. If you think you might want to do something, mention it. If your not sure, just say so. I don't think that it really matters, but the fa office will be able to tell you more if you shoot them an email or call.

does anyone know if OU averages MCAT scores? Im getting 27s right now, and im worried about taking it this april without adequate study time. I wont take it if they average it in april, id rather take it in august seeing that late MCAT doesnt hurt ppls chances at OU.

I think that my class ave is about a 30-OUdoc correct me if I'm wrong. Go ahead and take in April, if you don't do well take it in Aug. OU only takes the most recent scores-not the best-so it may be to your advantage to retake. Besides it's fun 👍 👍 😀

I could have sworn that Nancy said OU averages your MCAT scores together if you take it multiple times 😕 .

I was always under the assumption that OU only took the most recent score (regardless if that was the better score or not). I know if they averaged my 2 scores, I dont think I would've been in the first round of interviews (but i'll never know). I do hear that if you do retake it and go down, then that is a big negative in the adcoms eyes.

Good luck, and congrats to all those who recently were accepted.

Abe, my wait-list letter said the 2009 accepted students (not including peeps on wait-list) have a 3.7 and 10 MCAT.

Doxie said:

You can email the admissions office to find out if the policy has been changed, but I was cautioned several times before taking my second MCAT that I should not take my score down because only the most recent would be officially considered while the upward or downward trend would reflect my desire to work to get into the school. I'm almost certain that this is still the case. Here's how you can find out:

Telephone (405) 271-2331
email: [email protected]
Dr. Hall: [email protected]

Let me know what you find out b/c I want to be able to give people the correct info.

I'm bored and I thought that you guys might find this interesting. It's a news story about a two-headed baby who had a surgery to remove the extra one. One of my classmates posted this on Hippocrates. Makes you never want to reproduce. You're going to love Embryo-a little depressing 'cause it's full of this stuff.
