Well, the wrong color envelope came in my mailbox 🙁 Congrats to all of you who are in. 👍
Mine hasn't run. It doesn't get here until 3:50 p.m. centeral standard time. Yesturday, I had to leave the house. I could not stand waiting! Just as I was leaving the mailman pulled up. Poor guy, I think he wants this to be over more than I do. I ran into the house, cracked the blinds, and stared at him sorting the mail....pathetic! I will be glad when all this is over.lfesiam said:did you guys get the letters today? overrated,RachelD? frogMD? 👍![]()

If anyone doesnt accept me this year, I'll reapply next year. I'm going to the reapplication workshop on March 15th just in case. Is anyone else going to be there?RachelD said:NO, I have a family, moving just would not work for us. Who else is planning on reapplying?

No red for me either. I am on the wait-list. Oh good, more waiting. 🙁 If I don't get into OU this year, I will not be reapplying. I am on OSU-COM's wait list too, but I have been accepted to KCOM. I like KCOM, just too much money. Look out Missouri, here I come! 🙄RachelD said:Well, the wrong color envelope came in my mailbox 🙁 Congrats to all of you who are in. 👍

In the letter I received today, it states there are 35 on the wait list. That isn't too many. I'm surprised. Someone told me (don't remember who - so may not be reliable) all of OU's wait list was admitted for 2004-2005.lfesiam said:no clue on how many they waitlist, i'm just restating what i heard on a previous post, sorry =( but i do know this:
from the ou website:
250 total interviewed
150 class-size
I think they probably would accept a bit over the class size. (170-180?) so your chances of getting in after an interview is atleast 60% (150/250) which is good! now...if they accept more than the class size....(170/250=68%) now if you add in those waitlisted, the chances are not as bad as we all think, 👍
hope this info makes everyone feels a bit better 🙂
keep your hopes up!![]()
overrated said:Can someone explain the Tulsa option to me? The acceptance packet included a disclaimer that said students can be "assigned" to Tulsa for the clinical years. From what I understood, there were plenty of primary care interested students that wanted to go to Tulsa. Is Tulsa actually just smaller clinics or is there a tertiary care center there too? Also, is there any way to get out of it if you are assigned? I ask because I'm interested in surgery and need to be somewhere where I can get plenty of exposure to surgical specialties. I'd appreciate it if someone could clarify this for me? Thanks.
Dr Turninkoff said:anyone know if OU matches many or any in derm? i didn't see any on the match list they gave me a while back.
overrated said:Hey Adsharp, thanks a ton. I just want to let you know that your continued participation on this board has been extremely helpful as we have gone through this stressful admissions process. Thanks for all your advice and insider information. I look forward to meeting you this fall.
ad_sharp said:No problem. Just don't want you guys to be as confused through this whole process as I was.
You're right. I'm just really ready for all this waiting to be over. I have been worrying and waiting for this part of the process to be over for 4 years. I guess a few more months won't kill me. 🙄Ginz20 said:I also got a letter yesterday informing me that I am one of the 35 that get to continue their wait. Just wondering if they only accept 150 for the class initially, then have the 35 on the waitlist. If what was posted before was true (170-180 acceptances total - 150 initial acceptances = 20-30 from the waitlist out of 35), then our chances are actually pretty good.
lfesiam said:hey guys, no words yet for me! man, USPS is so slow these days, so still crossing my fingers here. I'm tempted to call Ms. Shaw but I think I'll keep waiting. So today, I started looking into various masters programs. Master of Bioethics, Biomedical Communication, Social Work, Public Health, and Biotechnology (these can be completed in a year + 1 summer) at various schools.

Sorry you didn't hear from OU, that sucks!lfesiam said:Alright. I didn't get anything in the mail yet today. hahaha anyways, I should know by tomorrow. Any of you out of state applicants who interviewed in Feb received words from OU yet? spread the love and please post if you did =)
I think I'm going to call on monday if I didn't get any letters by tomorrow (just incase they mailed it to a wrong address or somethin').
Enjoy your weekends guys! Overrated, you should go out and celebrate!!!! 👍![]()
What do you guys think about OU's modules. Is participation required in these or is it a come and go if you want? Do they help?ad_sharp said:That's the correct Embryo book.
Frogmed said:What do you guys think about OU's modules. Is participation required in these or is it a come and go if you want? Do they help?
ad_sharp said:The mods are great. I wouldn't know anybody without them. Attendence to the mod is not required except when class is being conducted in the mod. You'll have PCM on a weekly basis every month and a half or so. Also, PBLs usually happen about 4 times a semester in the mod and you've got to go to that. Primarily, the mod is a place to study, hang out, and go to eat lunch between classes. It's kinda like having your own room. You get a desk and some storage for your stuff (all locked of course)-you don't have to hang out in the mod if you don't want to. I would have to say that the mod is the best thing since sliced bread. 👍 👍
lfesiam said:yea i think modules are great 👍 , however I think they are a bit worn down and need some renovation 👎
so no mail again today! hahaha... sigh I guess it takes quite a while to mail from OKC to Long Island, NY (I live in philly but I sent all the medschool stuff to my permanent addy). So my gf (from OKC) said that it usually takes 7-9 days to mail stuffs from OK to the northeast!!! wow.
hey ad_sharp, can we bring anything into the mods? furnitures? I remember seeing a sofa in one. (i'm think about bringing a hammock..if i do get in hahaha jk =)
Jalopycat said:Yeah, the waitlist is really not a death sentence. I, along with several other people I know of, were accepted off the waitlist. I found out around the end of March that I was off. I think that is fairly soon (I was lucky!) and I would rely more on what the previous person said about the end of May.
putzeled said:I know the pros and cons of OU and OSU-COM have been talked about a little bit on this thread. And I know someone is going to say pick which one is the best fit for you, or something like that. But I'm still going to ask....
Ginz20 said:Well my fellow waitlisters I found out some info for you. I had a slow day at work here at OUHSC, so I went down to the third floor to the Admissions Office and asked a few questions. Lisa Jaques confirmed that last year they held 47 people on the waitlist, and all of them eventually gained acceptance. However, she said that was very unusual. The norm is to see approximately half to three quarters of the waitlist get accepted. Also, they rank the waitlist, but that isnt always official. For example if several out of state students withdrawal, they will pull an out of state applicant off the waitlist. Overall, she gave me a very positive impression of being on the waitlist. Also, she said that movement would be slow until the beginning of May to the 15th. During that time we can expect to see a lot of movement. I guess all we can do now is wait and hope others withdrawal (I kind of feel bad for hoping for that wait no I dont).

I've been accpeted at both of our fine state schools and I'm really torn as to which one I like better. Anyone else on here in the same situation?
I liked the atmosphere at OSU. Seemed very close-knit and maybe more laid-back and a bit friendlier than OU. But, I wasn't very impressed with their facilities. And I think it would get pretty old being in that one building all the time. I realize you spend a lot of time in the mods at OU, but you have all the hospitals and the other hsc colleges surrounding you. OU's campus just feels more like a med school to me. Plus I liked the fact that OU gives you so much info between the note groups and hippocrates that you can legitimately homeschool to a large extent. I remember OSU students saying that there was very little homeschooling there.
And as far as DO vs MD I think that I would receive a great education at either school. I would love to learn OMM, and I know that DO's are well respected and that OU goes up to Tulsa to recruit OSU students for residency spots and all that. But, I'm still worried that if I decide to pursue a competitive specialty that I might be fighting more of an uphill battle as a DO.
So, as you can tell I like a lot about both schools. Surely there are others out there with similar thoughts... So, how about sharing. I would love to hear someone else's point of view.
Thanks
p.s. I'm also posting this on the DO forum.
Doxie said:I already know of two people from my school who are definately withdrawing to go to other schools =)...I'm sure there will be alot of movement from the waitlist.
Also, a question for the current med students....I got a letter to apply online for scholarships, just curious as to what my chances are as a freshman (with average MCAT scores & GPA) to get some financial aid that does not include loans? Also, it asks for specialty of current interest and I'm not too sure about that (and assuming this will effect my eligibility for some scholarships) what is the best thing to go with....does it even matter?
Abe said:does anyone know if OU averages MCAT scores? Im getting 27s right now, and im worried about taking it this april without adequate study time. I wont take it if they average it in april, id rather take it in august seeing that late MCAT doesnt hurt ppls chances at OU.
ad_sharp said:I think that my class ave is about a 30-OUdoc correct me if I'm wrong. Go ahead and take in April, if you don't do well take it in Aug. OU only takes the most recent scores-not the best-so it may be to your advantage to retake. Besides it's fun 👍 👍 😀
Doxie said:I could have sworn that Nancy said OU averages your MCAT scores together if you take it multiple times 😕 .
Abe, my wait-list letter said the 2009 accepted students (not including peeps on wait-list) have a 3.7 and 10 MCAT.Abe said:does anyone know if OU averages MCAT scores?
