no way?!?! how did you hear that? I am a dec 6th interviewee...i live in missouri so i am adding a few extra days for the snail mail to get here.

I talked with the admissions office yesterday and they said "all they had was being sent out today (thursday)". I live in Tulsa and haven't got anything yet. My friend in Norman (who interviewed on the 7th) got an acceptance today. GLP- where do you live in Oklahoma? Man, now the mailbox check will reach unhealthy levels.

glp, I am sooo happy for you. Congratulations! I drove home as soon as glp posted - no luck in Tulsa yet. The mailbox was still very empty at 5:30. I was tempted to drive by local post office to see if anybody was interested in a bribe. This is going to be such a long night for some of us... good luck to all.

Woo-Hoo! Big red envelopes kick ass! Oh ****, now what? Oh well, woo-hoo! 😀
Arrived in Stillwater today...

F-Bomb yeah!! I love that mail man! He handed the letter directly to me with a twinkle in his eye...it was almost surreal. Now i have to study for my finals...or maybe i will later...

Congratulations to you too!

When I told folks on Tuesday to expect to hear back in about a week, I never would have thought they were getting mailed out before the weekend.

See you next fall, I guess? 😉

Definitely interviewed on the 6th and definitely have yet to receive anything. I won't be home until Sunday, either......... All I can say is OH S***. I don't think I want to know... It might be the end of deluding myself that I get to be a doctor someday :scared:

Has anyone recieved invitiations for Jan/Feb interviews yet? Do you know when they may go out?

When I interviewed, it was in February and it seems like I got my interview a couple of days before Christmas. I remember kinda freaking out because I hadn't heard anything and I knew people that already had acceptances.

December 6th interview... still no mail 🙁

I definitely was watching the mailbox til the mailman came. I really had hoped/expected that today would be the day.

nothing either... what a waste of 5 hours of waiting, i literally stared out the window waiting hoping this letter comes in the mail. I need some closure =o.

I interviewed last year in Feb and I looked at my invite letter and it was dated Dec 14th. I'm still waiting to see if I get an interview this year.

dec 6th interview. i am scared to go home from work to check my mail....how sad is that? jwax and abe...where are you from? i would figure since it got to tulsa friday that it would be here in missouri by today...i guess i will find out soon enough if i stop being such a wimp. ill let you know later

sometimes i wish i never knew about SDN so i wouldnt such a nervous wreck all the time...but i cant help myself

I'm in Edmond, which is the same distance from OUHSC as Norman. Therefore, I think someone is making a mistake with the comment that a dec. 7th interview got their letter on the 9th. No school is that fast. I suspect that we will have our letters by the end of the week. I also spent some time sitting and looking out the window, but fortunately, it wasn't much time. I know our mailman shows up around 3pm. So, that's when I started watching for him. Let the ritual begin again tomorrow.

Biochemistry is finished for us! At least until Step 1, I guess. 😛

Try not to worry too much about the mail. It will get there eventually.

Sorry... trite platitudes are all I have now. Well, that and a whole lot of information about branchial arches, pouches, and cranial innervation.

Turn those frowns upside down with a little CN VII action to the zygomaticus major! Oh yes, I am that big of a nerd.

November 30th interview still waiting in Arizona...

Watch yourself, you might get sectioned with a judo chop..... something like this...

I called yesterday (I was a Dec 6th interviewee), and they said our decisions will be mailed this week.

I have an interview on Jan. 24th, the invite came Nov. 18th. I have a friend who is interviewing on Jan. 27th who recieved his invite yesterday.

thanks for calling ingamina...now i can relax a little.

Hey guys,
Congrats to you all on your successes throughout what I know is a very grueling ordeal.
I have a favor for those of you who have and are to interview. After reviewing some of OU's feedback on the interview feedback forum, I've noticed that under some of the "negative" comments about the school, was something that I at the time considered "negative" as well without giving it due regard.
That is the topic of "homeschooling". When I was interviewing, I couldn't possibly imagine somebody paying 17 grand a year to go to medical school, and then... not go to class. It seemed, well, lazy. As such, when I heard that a significant portion of OU students didn't go to class, I naturally attributed it to a fault in the program.
However, after being in the program for a year and a half, I can honestly say that it is in fact, a major attribute.

Consider this, would you rather attend a program that requires mandatory attendance (or doesn't offer other resources), and essentially targets one learning style through lecture, or a program such as OU which provides numerous resources, so that you can choose to learn the material in the fashion that fits you best, and accomodates your varied lifestyle as well.

OU provides it's students the opportunity to learn the material through
1. lecture (without gripe from the faculty if there isn't high attendance)
2. extensive online resources (Hippocrates)
3. detailed course syllabi for each class
4. notegroups (every participant (100% in our class) takes turns writing notes for each lecture (average 2-3x / semester))
5. textbooks (as a last resort, since the above should be more than enough)
6. faculty support
7. mod support from your classmates

I can honestly say that I saw the homeschoolers as "lazy" and probably in the bottom of their class, when I was interviewing for schools.

Looking back, I see that that was a ignorant, misguided view, and if any of you guys care to know my GPA, quartile rank, etc. to see what nearly 100% homeschooling (with an average of 2-3 hrs/day studying vs. those who sit in class, and still have to study (average 9-10 hrs day) is like, feel free to PM me and I'll put your minds at ease, about how you can have plenty of free time, and pull down the numbers you want to get that ortho residency at the same time.

Please just don't knock something that you don't understand on a public discussion board, where others utilize the resource to decide about particular schools. It's okay to say "there is significant resources, and many state they don't go to class". It's not cool to say "A big drawback to OU is that people homeschool".
Thanks for letting me vent. As you might be able to infer from this post, I get a little defensive about my school, and am quite happy being where I'm at. Hope to see many of you here next year. Work hard and you'll enjoy most every minute (except test blocks 🙂)

Gracias. I figured as much, but it is still nice to hear it. 🙂

I think med school homeschooling is a great idea! I have issues with being forced to go to class. Class= 😴

Hahah, I have wanted to use that face forever & I finally found an appropriate time!

Quiero acceptance a la OU!!!! Is today the day? 2 mores hours until my mailman comes... :scared:

Any Dec 6th interviews get their letters yet? I have two friends that interviewed on the 7th and they have already received their acceptance letters, one even got his on the 10th. Nobody I know that has interviewed on the 6th has received anything yet, however. I wonder why the Dec 7th interviews heard so fast and the Dec 6th interviews are having to wait...

a dec 7th interviewee got his back the 9th, 2 day turnaround now thats fast, im still waiting till 4:30 comes around when the mailman comes =/. And i dont even know what day I dont get any mail at all so thats gonna stink when i wait all day and get nothing.. it might be today. So whats going on how come some ppl are getting their letters quicker than others? It cant be all the mailmans fault lol.

inagmina i think i know you, you have the really long interview didnt u? So long that we left u behind and u had to join in the middle of the tour?
On the homeschooling thing, i think its cool that we have the option, im a lecture type person, buts its nice to know that i can miss days when i need to and not get really behind. The only complaint i had was that damn conference parking, i never could see the sign when i drove past it 7 times lol.

Dec 6th interview. Got my letter. Santa brought me a deferrment (sp?) for Christmas. +pity+

sorry to hear that jwax...does a deferrment mean that you get put back with the second round of interviewers and might get accepted then?

Better than a rejection.

I'm looking forward to the opportunity to homeschool now that gross anatomy is done.

How does the neuro lab work?

Neuro lab is nothing like anatomy lab. For one thing there's only like 3 or 4 of them the whole semester that take place in the anatomy lab (and they're optional). I never went to any of them, opting instead to watch them along with the others, on Hippocrates. They might help cement things if you're the type of person who gets alot out of lab, but I was okay with Netters and Hippocrates, and did just fine.

Second semester of MS1 is so much better than the first IMO.

I got mine last Saturday. 😕

You guys must have been in the same group as me.

It means they are waiting until after everyone has been interviewed until they figure out what they want to do with me. I will be notified of their final decision sometime after feb. 19th.

I'm trying to not be depressed, but it is hard. At least I have been put in the highly selective applicant pool for Rosalind Franklin & U of Wisconsin, so the game ain't over yet... even though I'm ready to quit. I think until I get in somewhere, all of my posts will end with:

+pissed+

i am done trying to figure out this process because now i am just psyching myself out...im like "what if they sent out all the acceptances first and now they are just sending deferrals or rejections???" ahh...the troubles with SDN. but congrats to everyone
