*clears throat*. I mean, no, they're not sequential. Yes, you take them at the same time 😀

I take it you're a homeschooler, how's that working out for you?
Thanks for the input. I think I'll require an above average amount of study-time thanks to that "doofus gene" I inherited from somewhere.WhoisJohnGalt said:Whoops, sorry I missed this post!
Yes, I homeschooled all last year. Honestly, I didn't do very well, but it was a very particular circumstance-- I'm getting married in a month and a half, and wedding planning was a higher priority for me than getting A's. I also moved in the middle of the year, so there was a lot of packing/unpacking/etc., and I moved in with my fiance, so there was a lot of adjustment there. Basically, I really had way too much going on in my life that wasn't med school.
All this to say, I really homeschooled the wrong way-- studied MAYBE 3-4 hours a day five days a week, and tried to cram everything else in the week before test block. This was what I needed to do given all my other circumstances, but that's not the way that homeschooling should be done if you want better grades than I have. I haven't decided if I'm going to homeschool or not next year, but I know that I will definitely do it differently once I ONLY have med school to focus on.
With the exception of me (and only because I don't do it right), all of the homeschoolers I know perform at least as well as the classgoers. You have to realize that I'm a particular case-- if I had gone to class and not studied outside of class, I would have done even worse (and spent more time doing it). Whatever you choose to do, you will decide how much or how little study time you put in, and it will be reflected in your grade.

Pretty sure the Red Cross is enough. I had both last year, but just going with the Red Cross this time. Just as long as it's the Professional Course. Also, when i looked at the Class of 2010's med blog (which I think is GREAT of them for setting up), it says they take the BLS or the Red Cross.Reddink said:I had a question about the BLS certification. I have gotten my First Aid and CPR certifications within the past year at The Red Cross. Do I need to do something else or is that enough?

JohnnyOU said:Ok...so where do we get our OU College of Medicine Class of 2010 t-shirts, flags, bumber stickers, hats, shot glasses, salt-n-pepper shakers, and aspirin ?
🙂
I'm in Dallas for the weekend and was in Oklahoma City on the way down Friday. I stopped by Ratcliffe's. They have nice short-sleeve T-shirts for every college on campus except medicine - for medicine, all they have are long-sleeved winter shirts. I asked them if they'd ever gotten short-sleeve. They told me they had gotten them in - and they'd all sold out. Grrrrrr!JohnnyOU said:Ok...so where do we get our OU College of Medicine Class of 2010 t-shirts, flags, bumber stickers, hats, shot glasses, salt-n-pepper shakers, and aspirin ?

A little while ago everyone was talking about taking all the aid they're giving us; are ya'll including the ALT loans as well, or just going with the 38500 as a diagnostic amount?

exlawgrrl said:$38500 doesn't even cover the full oos tuition. 🙂 Anyway, I think they've generous with loans in that they'll certify up to $17500 for living for 9 months, $2500 for a computer and $4500 for books. So, yeah, to me the generosity is the amount they're willing to certify, not the amount you can get in Staffords.

And is there a certain date our financial aid gets dispersed?
Thanks,
Johnny
JohnnyOU said:Well, my PC decided life was no longer worth living. 😡 I'm on my wife's laptop now. Time to start shopping for my school laptop I guess. I've pretty much decided on one of those 13" white MacBooks. I know it's kinda small but since I'll be carrying it all the time and only using it for school stuff I think it'll work great.
Does anyone see any compatibility issues I should be concerned about since I'm going mac instead of pc?
Mr. Freeze said:I've got a desktop PC now, but I'm drooling over the mac notebook "family"...I've got the schpiel from every kid in the Penn Square store cuz every time I go in I never tell 'em I've heard it before. But I also learn something each time. My wife is growing tired of my antics...She drops me off and then goes to Babies R Us. At least one of us has our priorities straight.
I've gotta take one of those EyeTV hoodis's for a test drive though!! My wife's best friend's husband has a HP media center PC, which can do the TIVO thing in addition to some other multimedia stuff. I was shopping the Apple website with the Big XII baseball tournament going on picture-in-picture style. 👍 👍 With the EyeTV setup you can export what you record from TV onto your new IPod and watch it as you please...so I guess I'll have to get one of those too 😀

Also, to anyone that has received his or her financial aid award letter, is there a deadline for when it has to be turned in? I haven't gotten my award letter yet and there seems to have been a mix-up at the office so I probably won't get my letter for another week or two and I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing any important deadlines. Thanks for the input.
hahawant2beadoc said:Too many mac people here, how am I supposed to make money fixing PCs if everyone buys one of those stable machines?
No, I visited with my aid counselor on Friday - I told her that I wanted to have my letter turned-in by the deadline but she said that wasn't a big deal and not to worry. (It was very embarrassing, too - I had to go to the State Department of Health to take care of some business for work and when I got to the Student Union it was very close to 5:00, so I ran up the two flights of stairs and was so winded when I got to the top that I was a little hard to understand - although she said that happens all the time.Mr. Freeze said:I turned mine in yesterday, which was technically after the 30 days; it wasn't a big deal.
So does anyone have T.H.E's lender code handy?? Thanks!!Non-TradTulsa said:There's a thread in the financial aid forum that discusses T.H.E. at some length - including all the "credits" you get for on-time payment. One thing I especially liked about T.H.E. was that they don't capitalize the unpaid interest until graduation (once unpaid interest is capitalized, you start paying interest on the interest because it's part of the principal then). I still haven't sent in my lender selection - all this stuff makes my hair hurt. I don't understand why OU doesn't list T.H.E. as one of its "preferred" lenders.

So they didn't have any guys competing this year?Smitty3L said:So, I'm sitting here watching the national spelling bee, and I thought is there anyone else out there who is a big enough geek to be watching this too. And I thought, hey I know where there are a bunch of nerds! I heard that it was going to be televised during primetime today on NPR. Oh yes that's right I listen to NPR.
Anyway, it's great to have a girl win this year! I think I heard the announcers say that the last time a female won was 1999.

Mr. Freeze said:Is it worth getting a membership to the Healthy Living Center? Will I have time to use it, or should I just hop on the machines in the union?
JohnnyOU said:The program looks good to me. I'm probably going to join and it's only $48/mn.
I'd like to try to enter that OKC Memorial Marathon in April they mentioned on their page. Well, entering is easy I guess, I should say "I'd like to try to complete..." I've always thought it'd be fun to enter a marathon.
haha yep...it counts.oudoc08 said:I figure I'll probably end up running 26 miles around the hospital every day during rotations. Does that count? 🙂
Nothing fancy?? That totally rocks!! I took my Mom down to the city today to see the new house and took some pictures on campus. I was just thinking about making some wallpaper... you beat me to the punch and did a FANTASTIC job.JohnnyOU said:I got bored and made myself a Class of 2010 wallpaper for my computer. If anyone wants a copy you're welcome to it. It's nothing fancy. I made it for a desktop set at 1024x768.
