Who're you betting on for Gold?

Locte for more Gold after his first, edging out Phelps into 4th!

USA Men's Basketball for Gold!

USA Women's Beach Volleyball for Gold!

Lee Chong Wei for Badminton Gold Singles!

Just started watching Judo, and will definitely watch Taekwando.

Waiting for Track and Field to start!

Jordan Burroughs for gold in freestyle wrestling at 74kg

I really get annoyed whenever the Olympics are on. They dominate all the sports coverage on channels like ESPN. I don't care about badminton or archery! Give me some more Football, Basketball and other real American sports!

USA Men's and Women's Basketball will get the gold.
Misty May and Kerry Walsh getting a 3rd straight gold in tandem beach volleyball would be incredible.
Can't wait for Track and Field!!!

You do know that it's not football or basketball season? And that basketball is an Olympic sport? And that ESPN doesn't actually play the Olympics?

USA basketball is the one good thing about the Olympics. I could do with some more nfl training camp coverage and baseball. And ESPN doesn't air the competitions but they talk about them.

Olympics basketball isn't nearly as exciting as NCAA or NBA. The bench alone on Team USA could blow any other country's team out of the water. Not super interesting. I think there are some awesome Olympics sports. Swimming, beach volleyball, diving, track are really cool to watch. Compared to these sports that are actually competitive, Olympic basketball is a total snooze.

Watching the Olympics and falling in love with a bunch of "random" athletes is just an awesome two week experience. It's nice to see athletes who are competing for something other than massive amounts of money every once and a while. The best part of the Olympics is seeing random sports that I would never see on television normally (archery, judo, field hockey, etc.).

I want to see Rudisha smash the 800m WR...unlikely but still, would be the highlight for me. Excited for 1500, 5000, 10k and marathon too

I wouldn't count on usa's bbal team that much...there have definitely been upsets and close calls. USA bbal is not nearly as dominant or "first place secured" as the women's rowing team for instance.

USA Women's Gymnastics (Artistic.. not that rhythmic crap) for sure! I was a gymnast all of my life (including on a Div 1 NCAA team), and even though I'm retired after a lot of injuries, I cannot help but be addicted  Plus! I still know a few of the team members and their coaches!!

Hoping for a '96 repeat 👍

If you're talking about the women's eight, they are unbelievably quick but I wouldn't call it a done deal over the Canadian boat - they only won by a bow ball in the last world cup event over the Canadians. As for the other categories, the US have been historically weak in the sculling events and even the pair (I guess because they don't really care about anything except the eight).

This is true, though I was talking about he Women's eight. They are really strong this year and have a boat load (hehe) of women who can row just as fast as the best. Canada is definitely the U.S.' stiffest competition and they posted a better qualifying time by 1 second...who knows though

NORTH KOREA IS BEST KOREA

That is all.

Haha, that made me laugh.

Better qualifying time and Canada are definite contenders, but I think the Americans have a gear they just didn't need in the heat since they obliterated the field. Anyway, here's hoping for an exciting final!

I wish they'd take the whole 'artistic' factor out of the women's gymnastics. I think it's amazing what they can do with their bodies, and I love watching the routines and skills...but the men don't have to jump through those awkward dance-ish parts in the middle, and it's strange that the women have to.

I look forward to the women's eight domming, and also track starting up!

On a side note, I wish we could start a petition banning NBC from ever covering the Olympics again. They consistently do a terrible job. Their online service is so laggy, glitchy, and poorly designed as to be completely unusable, and I'm sick of them 'blocking' prime races online just so they can show them on TV at primetime and pretend they're current.

So you want NBC to lose even more money for airing the Olympics live? (they already claim that they lose money on airing the games) Switching networks won't solve the problem.

Lose money? This is probably the greatest source of revenue for them with the amount of advertising done between the games.

You're probably right, but your post still reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r1CZTLk-Gk

NBC said they were expecting to lose money. Obviously that could change if they receive more from ad revenue as the numbers of viewers increase. But don't blame them for showing events on tape-delay, if according to their predictions at least, they are already losing money.

I sure did!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the artistic aspect is still vital to my sport - Women's gymnastics used to be primarily artistry, dance, and grace, and while the pendulum has definitely swung to acrobatics, I think it would be a travesty to lose part of the artistic factor. It's what sets us apart from a lot of other sports - athletic power and elegance. Besides, its only required in half of our events.

On the other hand, they've taken a lot of the artistry out of men's floor, and I'm really happy about that - they always looked a tad awkward.... lol.

lol @ the 4'11" north korean weight lifter who said the supreme leader was watching over him. it's sad, really...

You can't say anything if he won
All that matters brah

I would actually WATCH their network if they played the sports. They could get advertising dollars around good matches, and then play a highlights reel/commentary in the primetime for more ad money and viewers. I'd certainly watch both; the early 'live' races and the late highlight reel (because I would miss some events and to see how the US did overall, as well as get commentary and stories). That's completely different than turning the channel on and seeing the slow buildup/speculation about the 'upcoming' race, despite already knowing the outcome.

That's a side issue, though. What's worst is that they advertise live streaming online, but the website is bloated and nearly unusable. I had to try 2 different computers with 3 browsers each before I got it to work (and they were fast computers too), and it still took ages to load, then was laggy. The action would freeze and then fast forward. Try watching the gymnasts' routines at doublespeed...it's nearly impossible to see what's happening! Their website was so glitched out that the captcha on the 'complaints' page didn't show, so you can't even leave feedback.

Also, their TV schedule is often incorrectly labeled/advertised, so it's hard to find something specific that you want to watch.

I'm not against a TV company making money...I just wish there was a way to ensure that they also provide good coverage, because we don't have any other option for these events.

Also, I can't believe Phelps got silver in the 200m fly! Soooo close! Ah, hubris...

You make some good points.

If I were to put my money on anyone in any event, it would be David Rudisha for the men's 800 M. The man is unstoppable right now. It's basically going to be a battle for second.
