One space or two?

For the personal statement, should I use oe space after each sentence or two?

On the same note (sorry for borrowing the thread), do you use on enter or two after a paragraph? Thanks for answering both questions.

I used single spaces and single returns between paragraphs. Each "return" costs you two spaces and double spacing costs you as well. The format of your personal statement comes out funky no matter what you do, so don't stress too much.

Apparently double spacing at the ends of sentences is passe anyway - they don't teach it anymore. It was common when typewriters were still heavily used because often the capital letter of the next sentence ended up too close to the period. But with computers and automatic spacing its not longer necessary.

Here's an article on it if you care: http://www.getitwriteonline.com/archive/011803.htm

I grew up putting two spaces and still do, but typically its unnecessary (and often ignored as in the case of typing on the internet) to put two spaces after a period.

Back when I was your age we double-spaced after we ended sentences!

haha... anyway umm, honestly if you are trying to stay in the character limit and are considering formating changes involving spaces to cram in more letters, chances are your PS is way too long to begin with.

lol and it starts. i'll be expecting AJVic123 to next post "what size envelope for mailing out secondaries????"

one space. even though it's proper to use two spaces after a period, the space for the PS is limited as is and one space could open up a lot of characters. that and it's completely acceptable. i've never heard anything from adcoms about one v two spaces.

On the AMCAS it actually formatted the finished product into one space between sentences, no matter what was actually typed. So.. it can't be bad to save more space.
