Online Biochem course?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Has anyone opted to take biochem online? I'm thinking about taking it this summer with the first ochem. what do you guys think?

I wouldn't do it. Biochem's a really essential class for dental school and you want to know it inside and out. You don't want to have that potential to just google something and not learn it. Take the real class during the school year and after you take ochem. It's pretty heavy stuff if you haven't seen it before.

Provided the schools in question accept online courses.

Most schools state on their website that you have to take a pre-req courses in person and that online courses are not accepted. I was looking up a bunch of schools last night and most of them that had biochem as a pre-req said you cannot take it online.

so be careful when taking this shortcut or you might pay for it twice (by having to retake the in-person class.)

thanks for the feedback guys. i spoke with two counselors and they each said that it would not show up as an online course on my transcript...but that it would show up the same as if i took it in person. is there any other way a dental school can know if you took it online or in person? It seems like I'd be cheating the system...maybe..it could be way tougher online than in person

Agreed. I asked one of the schools I applied to if they would allow an online Organic II course. He basically said, "h*ll to the NO!" But, I'm so glad I took it at my 4-year university, especially during DAT time.

Honestly I don't see how it would be tougher online then in person. You can have the book/google in front of you....

But irregardless, you're going to have to take biochem in dental school. You'll want to know your stuff by then and you don't want to be one of those people with a terrible biochem background.

You're playing with fire and once again your "shortcut" might backfire as you would have to retake the class AND pay for it! dont be silly, just take it in college as most people do to avoid problems.

If you can Ace biochem online you can ace it in a traditional class setting. To me the best students are those who can sit down with a text and teach themselves a subject without having to always consult someone else to break it down for them.
I took cellular biology online and I remember that class better than any other because I had to rely on myself and not other students or the prof. The class was like any other class in terms of students competing with each other - there were also proctored tests.

If it wont show up as distance I would do it. It would be relaxing to read the book and watch online lectures instead of having to go to class 3/week.
