Hi all,

I have done all my pre-reqs for pharmcy school application and I am in the process of applying for 2010 admission. However, I have C's in both Chem I and Physics II. I am thinking of retaking the classes, but I don't have the money to pay at my current University. A community college is offering online Chem course and I am contemplating If I should take it. Will it be alright if I take the online course or would it look bad in for the adcoms.

Stats......Cumulative GPA 3.4

Thanks in advance,

How did you do in Chem II and Organic I & II?

If you did better in those, then there's probably no reason to retake Chem I.

I have all A's and B's in the rest of my courses.

Orgo I B...lab B
Orgo II..A Lab A

Be careful with the online classes and community college courses. Some pharmacy schools do not accept them. I can think of a couple right off the top of my head: Oregon State and Iowa. Other schools explicitly state that they PREFER those who have completed lab sciences at a four-year institution. I would DEFINITELY retake the chemistry. One of the schools I am applying to states they will take nothing less than a B in chemistry, particularly Organic Chemistry. Look into the schools you are applying to for this information. If you do have to retake the chem at a community college, it might be better to do it in person. Then you can probably explain that you had to take the course at the community college level for economic reasons. They will probably be understanding of that (at least I hope).

I would also be skeptical of taking chemistry online. Is the lab component online as well? If so, how are you learning about the laboratory techniques? You MIGHT have to explain it to some adcoms depending on the school (if they prefer lab sciences at a four-year).

I'm curious as to which community college offers chemistry online. Mine was taken so long ago that I need a refresher in the concepts so I can stop bombing the PCAT! But I don't have the time to actually attend a class during the day time.

I'm a little concerned about this too. I did all of my prereqs for Nova during undergrad. so I'm okay with that, but I'm not sure if UF will accept my Comparative Physiology credit in lieu of the Anatomy and Physiology series. I really want to get all of my prereqs for UF out of the way before summer in the case that I am offered acceptance I don't have to worry about it, but I'm worried that the online credit will be looked down upon. I finished my bachelor's degree in Biology back in May, so I feel like I am prepared as far as biology goes, but I want to make sure that I am taking the right classes.

UF says that online science courses MAY be accepted. What does this mean? I already took A&P 1 over the summer at Miami Dade College virtual school so I'm worried I'll have to repeat it "in person".

Get in contact with UF. Call, email, or visit in person, but ask UF if they will take any classes you have questions about. If they won't, you still have time to take those classes. But if you leave it up to chance you might screw yourself out of an acceptance.
