Hello,

It appears I am going to have to retake my first semester of organic chemistry because I got a C- in it. I did fine in the second semester of it and caught up on the material I didn’t understand before. Does anyone know if osteopathic schools will accept an online credit for this and if so where I could take it online this summer

Each osteopathic school has different criterion for what online courses they will accept, if any. You would need to call and confirm with individual admissions departments. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but NYITCOM does not accept any online courses.

Having said that, UNE has a great science prerequisites program where science courses, plus associated labs, are offered online. These courses are difficult and pricey, but can be completed quickly if you consistently work at it. I took the online biochemistry course a couple years ago, and it was brutal. I truly earned my grade here. Here's the link. Science Prerequisites for Health Professions - online classes

Berkeley Extension also has a few online science courses. I hear this program is tougher than UNE's, but you may have to do your research. There are several threads about online coursework on SDN. Here's the link for Berkeley. Sciences, Mathematics and Biotechnology

Oregon State has a nice program for G Chem and Orgo. The classes don’t show up as online on the transcript according to a friend who took chem through OSU. Orgo looks like a hybrid program where you’ll need to go to the school to do the lab portion. Whether online is acceptable however is a school by school thing.

I took UC Berk's online Biochem. Compared to med school biochem it was a easy, but it's a good prepper.

I would recommend it if you have the money.

I honestly don’t even need the preparation. I caught up over the summer before I took o chem 2 so I’d have a good foundation. I’ve taken a bunch of upper level chem classes so it should be a walk in the park, I just need another semester of o chem to fulfill the requirement of having 2 semesters because my first doesn’t count

When you say not accept any online courses, does that mean they don't accept the prerequisites taken online, or that they don't even count is as part of your AACOMAS GPA? I took all my prereqs in class but have taken some electives online, how would that work?

Not accepting online classes meaning that they will not consider online coursework to meet requirements or electives. Each school may deal with online courses differently, so you'd have to follow up with them.

Following up with that, if a school requires 1 semester of organic and 1 semester of organic 2 or biochem and I took 2 of organic and 1 of biochem with a C- in the first organic, I still need to retake organic and can’t just count biochem as my second organic right?

This is an ultra-specific question that each school needs to answer for you.

Just a heads up for anyone else wondering this- not only will WVSOM take the online classes- they also said that they will take the C- in my intro chem course. So at least for that school I’ve met all requirements

If you need general chemistry or physics, North Central Missouri College also offers these courses and the corresponding labs. In case you are wondering--on the transcript, the courses do not show up as "online".
