Hey Everyone -

I was wondering if anyone here took the online Kaplan prep course and what they thought of it.
Did you get anything out of the lectures?
How did you work taking practice MCATs?

I live too far away from a major city to take any classroom courses so online or on my own are my only two choices.

If anyone has taken any other online course and would like to comment on that too it would be appreciated.

I took the online course and I was very pleased with it. However, if you polan on taking the on line course you MUST and I repeat, you MUST be diciplined.

You need to set aside a specific time and day to watch the lectures. I set aside Sunday mornings. All of my reading, my homework, my workshops, and quizzes needed to be completed by Saturday night so I do not waste time on Sunday mornings.

THe good thing about the online course is that you can watch the lectures whenever you want, you can pause them, rewind them, and watch them as many times as you want.

No matter how tempting it is, do no cheat on any of the topical tests, you will be cheating yourself.

If you have any questions PM me.

I took a Kaplan course this summer and I have to say that they're web site is awesome. The actual classes were a waste of time (except for the proctored full-lengths which are very helpful). The web site and their review books are very good. As long as you get the same books and the same web site as the classroom people do, then I would recommend it.

I took it and loved it. All the same books as the classroom, and the lectures I thought were useful -- especially cause u can fastforward ur strong points, and replay your week subjects

Sweet - thanks for the advice.

I'll see how I score on practice exams before I decide to shell out that kind of money.

I definitely recommend the online course! I went from a 21 on my diagnostic to a 32 on my last practice test, in 3 just months of studying (started end of May, took the Aug. MCAT), so they are definitely knowlegable about what you need to know.

it is true that you definitely have to set a schedule and stick to it. what i did was i printed out the "sample schedule" from the kaplan website for one of the classroom courses and then lined up my planned classes with that one as best as i could. it worked out well...i got everything done in time...but i really had to be dilligent about it. i definitely recommend it if you've got more time (i.e. if you're studying for the april exam and starting soon).

Yup that's me! 🙂 I was thinking about starting in November - I have this retreat thing for like a week so I didn't want that to come out of the middle of studying. Is that insanely early? I have been semi-studying for awhile now but nothing organized or serious - just a bit of a review.

Thanks again for all the help.

i think it sounds like a good time to start...most of my friends who were studying for the april exam started over winter break, so november is definitely plenty early (but not insanely early...some of the kaplan classroom courses start in september and october for the april exam!). i think you'll be fine if you start then.
