$250-$350 for a single online simulation, one needed every year if used as sole part 4 activity = $2500! On TOP of MOCA fees!!

I’ll be doing the case presentations and self improvement options and save the cash for a ski trip.

I'm done with MOCA very soon. It's a scam. I see no value in it. I find the ACE questions annually a much better value and I get 60 CME credits.
 
I wish I had a job where I could just spend all day thinking about how to fleece others instead of contributing to society
 
I just realized I give $250 a year to the ASA PAC, so now I can give them the same $250 in the form of payment for sim-stat, but it will deductible.

Yes it is a scam. These boards are private organizations trying to insert themselves into the public licensing of Physicians so they can collect their $5000 fee with every license. With all the shortages, burdens, and insults to Physicians in practice, this just becomes one more thing dragging us down. And if you think its bad for us in Anesthesia, imagine what it is like for a solo Family Medicine doc, or a hospitalist.
 
I found simstat incredibly painful. Very buggy and hard to use. Just awful IMO. Among the worst $250 I have ever spent, and I have wasted some $ in my life.

I managed to piece together 15 hours for a QI deal and did the VA sim (much better and free) for my remaining hours so my 25 for the 5 year period is done. The way I figure, I don’t have to think about Part 4 nonsense for 7 more years - at which point I will probably just pay for a real sim session. Good riddance.

The videos for the VA difficult airway simulation are pretty silly. What is all of this talk about the "vortex?"
I had trouble playing the associated game because of software issues. How do you claim credit for the simulation?
 
Since opting out of MOCA, my ability to take care of trauma patients has been judged by a novel new metric- the results I get in taking care of actual trauma patients.
 
Yeah its all a scam to fleece us more and more. The only reason it was subtly changed is that the adjacent roar in IM was catching fire. I wish I could be done with it but I have too many years left and the unstable nature of work these days means I might be on the job trail again at some point.

Taking time off work for a sim course, travel, hotel, course is way more than 2500. Its just do you want to pay for the convenience of being done in one swoop.


BTW whats up with Moca Minute questions. Were a month in to the cycle and its not active. Only care because Im taking a trip in mid march and wanted to knock it out before hand and have looked twice and it hasn't been active.

Did anybody have trouble playing the third part of the DAARC course? I downloaded and installed the specific media player, but it still won't play. Anybody have a work around?

You forgot to activate the vortex and have the RT adjust the bed before you talked to the patient.

Did you go on the ABA website and do your annual recertification and payment? This happened to me last year until I submitted my payment

You've got to throw another $210 down the rathole before you can do this quarter's questions.
