Okay so I am (as shown by the forum name) a nontraditional student looking to get back in the mix. I have been doing a ton of research for local schools and have decided that I would love to apply to the University of Cincinnati pharm school but I have to finish some of the gen eds. Now I know that they prefer you to take classes at a university but me working full time and trying to support a family (for as long as I can until I get accepted) it seems like University of Phoenix online has the courses I need. Would taking these classes online hurt my chances? Are online courses frowned upon?

Depending on the courses you need, you might be able to take them online at a local school. The big difference between that and Phoenix is that most brick-and-mortar schools don't indicate whether or not a class was completed online. If you're worried about any kind of stigma being attached to your Phoenix classes, this would be the way to do it.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how most pharmacy schools view work done at Phoenix.

I think it matters not for as long as you can get the PCAT nailed.

So to be clear, you don't need to take any pre-pharmacy requirements like Calculus or Organic Chemistry online, just general education crap? Should be fine. But you know what I'd do? I'd call my school of choice, which would be Cincinnati for you, and ask them point blank their stance on it.

Can't get much more definitive than that.

Okay yeah, thanks a lot. I suppose my best bet would be to just call in and get an answer from them directly on the matter.

Yep, definitely.

We can hem and haw all day waxing philosophical on the convenience vs. difficulty argument and whether schools SHOULD accept the credits or not but unless someone has personal experience w/ Cincinnati and can offer a direct answer, it's best to get one from the school.

Let SDN know when you get an answer though to add it to the collective of knowledge which makes this place so great.
