Hi. I am an overexcited premed fantasizing about specialties and have recently become enamored with optho. I realize it's extremely difficult. Is this also one of the specialties where the allopaths don't accept DOs (generally speaking)?

We had an opthalmologist speak at our school a week or so ago. He walks around in a $5000 suit and has a personal assistant standing beside him to pick up stuff in case he drops it. He did nine cataract surgeries that day before he stopped by to see us. So, it can be very lucrative. But, watching the videos of what he did made me think I'd be kind of bored doing it all the time.
I realize that there are AOA residencies in this specialty but I was also wondering how open allopathic residencies are to DO applicants in this particular field.
i'm pretty sure there are no DO residency programs in Preventive Medicine. i could be wrong though. even it if it is true, thats not saying that DOs cant work in preventive medicine, it just means they have to go through an MD residency.
Ophtho = borathon. I did a two week rotation as a 4th year and I wanted to off myself after the first couple of days. However, the guy I hung out with was livin' LARGE. It's a specialty were you work to live, not live to work. Better have some expensive hobbies!

interesting. it appears to be a DO residency in preventive medicine. although i couldnt find anything as far as a website regarding the program. when i typed it into google the only thing that came up was the AOA website that you posted.
