I'd like to know what your opinions are regarding my scores and getting into dental school.

BCP: 2.88
SGPA: 2.88
Non-Science GPA: 3.46
Cumulative: 3.23

Double Major: Biology (BA) and Computer Information Systems (BS)

DAT: AA-19 TS-20
B-19
GC-21
OC-20
RC-20
QR-15
PAT-20

Job Shadowing Experience: 30 hours

I've applied to the following schools: Boston U, Tufts, NYU, Columbia, Indiana, UMDNJ, VCU, WVU, Howard, Temple, Nova S, Loma Linda, UConn, and SUNY Buffalo.

My application has not yet gone out to schools. I am still waiting for AADSAS to mail it out. I don't know what to expect. Any opinions?

Thank you!

well i am affraid you are too late for indiana i think that they have filled all their interview spots....actually you are pretty late over all...but your dat is fine your QR is a little low some schools have cut offs around 16. but goodluck hopefully it works out...everyone has a different experience with this whole process and yours might be a good one

Your sci GPA is going to be your biggest problem. You may have a shot at your state school (assuming you have one)..but I would really look into post-bacc programs or a masters to bring that sci gpa to at least a 3.0

You are also a bit late too which won't help. You have a good DAT and I think you have a chance if you have amazing ECs. However, I would definitely have a back-up plan and be prepared to reapply.

The process is a crap-shoot..but that sciGPA is really going to hold you back

Good Luck

yeah, your sGPA is going to be a big problem. i would make tentative plans to sign up for a science based grad program or get a second undergrad major in something like neuroscience. however, there is still hope for you if your dad or grandpa donates large sums of green paper to a certain dental school in the area or if you have extenuating circumstances like you overcame a crippling disease or something. just remember, it's not the end of the world if you don't get in. re-prioritize, set some new goals and find something you really like so you'll really get into it and do well.

Right now I'd say NYU, your state school, and Howard if you're African American or a minority are your best bet. Your DAT is fine, the science score is good along with your PAT. One bad thing is how late you applied...I have a couple friends with scores like you (except their science was a 3.0) who got into D school. Just have good ECs going for ya, and some kick ass letters of rec.👍

Ur science gpa is low, but you have DAT scores that speak for themselves. Ur sci scores on DAT are good, which will show them that your grades are not a correct reflection of how much you know. If you do get an interview they might ask u to explain why is your GPA so low, but hey we all know GPA is just an idication of how much crap u can put up with. 🙂

Your chances of getting into dental school are good. However, if ur application still has not arrived, even though there is still time, you might be late this year. I only say this bc I don't think that you need to remajor in something else, that will be just waste of your time, but if you do not get in this time, just think of the reason being because you applied so late. Next year apply on 05/01 and I guarantee you with those scores you will score few interviews. But still there might be a good chance. So GOOD LUCK!! :luck:

i'm not trying to be mean or anything, but y'all should stop pumping up the OP's hopes w/ out any good feedback on what to do next when they don't get in (which i truly feel they won't). i haven't seen anyone on this site in a while that has a sub 3.0 sGPA w/ substantial interviews or acceptances. it's true that as a minority you might get acceptances w/ a sub 3.0, but even then LOR's and EC's would have to be excellent and we don't know if the OP's are. like i said, i'm not being mean. at this late in the cycle and w/ those scores i don't think any interviews are in the cards and next year the cycle will be even more competitive and all the sub 3.0 sGPA people will be enrolled in more science classes and moving on up the d-school priority chain. if the OP is not one of those peope they will not get in next year either cuz every school wants to see you try and do something to improve yourself every cycle.

Start studying for next year. If you can get that below average gpa up, then I wouldn't retake the DAT. If you can't get the GPA up, I would consider improving your DAT scores.

(they are good, but you need better to offset your below average gpa)

I'm not saying I'm going to need it, I hope not, but if I do then it must be mine - reapply2008.

I recommend the OP scan the under 3.0 thread. Lots of good advice about how to get into dental school with GPA's less than the average admitted GPA.

i wouldn't really bet on an acceptance this year.
you're too late of an applicant and your sci gpa is gonna get you filtered out super fast at most schools.
i had similar stats last year and i had 0 interviews and 0 acceptances.
really work hard on buffing up your application.
you need more volunteering. and it doesn't necessarily have to be dental related. also retake the dat and aim for 20+ in ALL sections. it really will make a difference.
you're most likely going to be a reapplicant so prepare yourself mentally. send out your application may/june for the next cycle. also, DONT GIVE UP.

p.s. i'm sorry if this message sounded mean/pessimistic but i figure you can get fluffy-super-nice encouragement from your parents and friends.

i wish you the best though.
:luck:

I think you have an ok GPA and great DAT scores. The last few cycles have been very competitive. I would recommend that your application and during the interview, you emphasize other great strengths you have. Let them (schools) know that it takes more then just a high GPA student to deliver quality dental care and make a patient's visit a plesant one. Point out you commitment to volunteerism. That is, why its important and how you have engaged in contributing to it. Believe it, there are 4.0s who also get denial letters. Dental schools dont want to graduate robots for technical work when they can get a very skilled human with great social skills.

good luck.

Anything can happen! But I think you might be a weee bit late with those apps. especially with the average stats. I turned mine in late august and it was sent out 1st week of sept. and that has affected my chances I think. I'd work hard on the DATs and apply early next cycle. Good Luck!!!
