opthamology or optometry?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
jymezg, looks like someone's scared. You know I'm right ******, you're going to waste all your money, and 4 years of your life, and even after getting an OD, I will guarantee you that you'll likely sweeping floors in a dirty apartment building.

There will be zero demand for optometrists in 2014. You know it, and I know it. Good luck with your life, punk.

Completely inappropriate. Why would you write such inflammatory things? You need to think a bit more before you post, sir.

Actually, I see that you have some anger posted in your UW rejection thread and that may be the issue. We ask you to show a little more courtesy to your colleagues. In the end, people are often willing to help each other out within the medical community so it's in your best interest to be kind to others. I wish you the best in your future endeavors.

Believer128, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Optoms, please just ignore this guy/gal. Don't give any credibility to him/her by responding.

You're a pre-med? That's gotta be a big mistake. As far as I know, these are true professionals who are highly educated, classy and well-respected in our society. Do you think your style and language will earn that respect from others? I don't think so. BTW, in case you didn't know, we call people like you "IDIOTS" for short.

I am just finishing my OMD, but thought I would quickly comment on my experience w/ ODs. Agree w/ all that was said about our separate scopes- general eye care vs. specialty/surgical. I would also add that many of the ODs ARE specialists at our hospitals.

The work of our ODs in low vision and specialty contact lens fitting is invaluable. They are definitely well respected by both the staff, OMDs and ODs on our faculty. For many of our GA ARMD patients, they offer the only real help we can give them to improve functionality and quality of life. Their contact lens work w/ my post- PKP patients and keratoconus patients make the difference between "better" vision and "excellent" vision. There are many niches to be had within the OD scope of practice- while most ODs do provide general eye care (and have chosen the field because that's what interests them) don't believe EVERY OD must provide non-specialized eye care.
