question: what are the possibilities of training after a transitional year in milmed? would it still be possible to request deferment to any field be it IM, GS, or EM after completion to train on the civillian side if ones wish is to train in a civi program?

Yes it is possible, hard to say what the odds are.

gastrapathy - so are you saying that 2009ers will all either be forced into a milmed residency or, if desiring civ training, be forced to GMO and out to obtain it? new question - people on this forum mention skill atrophy d/t case volume as an issue. that said, once you're an attending is it possible to moonlight in order to keep skills up? i doubt there is really significant "atrophy" anyways but the moonlighting issue is interesting...thanks!

For the Army, at least, this statement is pretty much true for this year (except for neurosurgery or OB/Gyn). I suspect that it is the same for the Navy (maybe different specialties), and will continue to be the same for some time.

Did you really mean to say this? I just wanted to make sure before I respond.

yes, more or less. i personally have no idea and am making assumptions on what is posted on some internet forum (im naive) - if you're in the know either way and have an opinion id love to hear what you have to say about the issue...thanks!
