---They told us on the tour at PCO that students start seeing patients their SECOND year....at NEWENCO, we will start seeing patients the 3rd day of classes!
thoughts?
p.s I took a tour of your Eye Institute at Elkins Park...and IT ROCKS !!
Anothertony,
At PCO we strart going to The Eye Institute the first semester of the 1st year. At that point we only neutralize glasses, and do automated stuff. Second semester of 1st year, we had to do VA's, histories, etc... First semester of 2nd year, we had to do VA's, histories, entrance tests, ret, refraction, SL ophthalmosopy, BIO, etc.. Second semester of 2nd year, we have full responsibility of patients..there is no one else in the exam room, just you and the patient, whereas all the semesters before we had upperclassmen in the exam room with us. So, we start seeing patients the first week of school at PCO, but we assume full responsibility of the patients second semester of the 2nd year. Hope that clears things up.
The Eye Institute is wonderful, b/c we see a wide variety of patients, many of them are glaucoma patients. This semester, oher then primary care, we are also in peds, glaucoma clinic, emergency, community-based (at public schools), etc... The one thing I love about PCO is that we start rotations in our 3rd year, so we won't be no longer in the classrom, we'll be out getting experience. Only 10 more months until I'm outta here!
