I am trying to decide which to set my main focus on. Can you sell me on your school? At this point I'm thinking Corvallis seems a bit more appealing...

Visit the campuses and feel the community out- these are people you will spend the next 4 years with. I love Wazzu in every way and wouldn't change schools for anything in the world.

Good luck on your decision!

I agree, you should definitely go check out the campuses! I didn't expect to enjoy my time in Pullman as much as I did, but the school itself and the town were just wonderful. It is my IS so it's my #1 for financial reasons, but after I visited I knew I would really enjoy attending. On the other hand, Oregon has been my dream school for years and the tour just cemented that. You should really visit if you can! I was not enthusiastic about Washington, but after the tour I had a complete 180 in my thinking and I'm totally sold now.

As far as programs... my feeling is that they are pretty similar. The vet hospitals were both great, great technology, they seemed to have a similar case load and saw similar species. Washington was a bit larger than Oregon, but it is a bigger school and they have more students so I felt Oregon's size matched its student body. The staff at both schools seemed extremely invested in their students.

I do like Oregon's smaller class size, I think I would do better in that situation. Newport is on the coast and only about 1-1.5 hours away from corvallis so it would be pretty convenient for weekend trips. There's also a marine center there and I believe the school works with them so there would be opportunity for marine stuff if you're interested in that. They seem to have electives and rotations for zoo/exotics/wildlife too. I completely love the town as well.

Admittedly, I haven't done as much research on Washington... 😳 On my tour they showed me the exotics ward and it seemed like they had adequate options as far as electives and what not for those interested in that avenue. I saw a baby zebra when I was there and they mentioned they have a great repro program. WSU's facilities seemed a bit "shinier", newer and larger.

So basically, I'm no help at all  Are you IS at one or the other? If you are, you should focus more on that school. Do you have any specific areas of interest? That could affect your decision too (I'm probably going into small animal, so that may be why I felt the programs were very similar). I've definitely had the same dilemma and I've decided that they are both great schools that I'd be proud to attend!

Yes- plug for WSU's repro or 'theriogenology' program. World renowned. I couldn't say enough great things about our Therio faculty (I work with them and they are AMAZING individuals absolutely dedicated to their students).

If you decide to check Wazzu out and want a tour guide- PM me and I'd be happy to show you around 😀

I'm transferring credit to WWU right now to finish prerequisites. For family and financial reasons, I'd choose WSU. I do think I'll need to check both out though!

I may take you up on being a your guide! Hopefully when the weather is better, I'll head over. I'm about 6-7 hours away in Bellingham now! 🙂

If you go there, WSU has some of the best ice cream (and cheese) on campus. Hit it up. 😎

Ahhhh cougar gold! Yum! Good point. I'm a vegetarian who couldn't become vegan due to cheeseaholic-ism.

I am also planning to come visit both WSU and OSU's campuses. Haven't been to either town, so really have no idea what to expect! I'm flying in for my WSU interview this Friday, and decided to just make a quick trip out to OSU while I'm on the west coast (I live in Boston, so not an easy trip to make more than once)! Unfortunately, I will be at OSU on a Saturday, and there are no tours scheduled. Are there any current OSU students that would be willing to give me a quick tour/chat for a bit on Saturday, Feb 2nd? (My in-laws are meeting me in Portland, and my father-in-law is an OSU alum...but not a vet school grad, so probably not too familiar with that side of things.)

I'm not at the Pullman campus but got to go there for some research last year and my entire department was like GO THERE AND GET ICE CREAM. NAO. I also got some cheese, of course. 😛

I'm actually headed down to Corvallis myself in a couple weeks and will share any knowledge I get about apartments, etc. 😳

I got my wisdom teeth out recently, so ice cream sounds even better than normal! I may have to head over the hill...
