Hey guys,

I know that it's not necessary to complete all the required courses such as 2bio, 2phy, 2ochem, 2gchem, when you apply as long as you finish them before you graduate and enroll into dental school..

So far, I have completed 2bio, 2physics, 2gchem, and currently taking ochem1 and ochem1 lab right now.
So... here is my problem.

I just have one more semester (next spring semester) to raise up my GPA.. since i am applying in early June 2010.
But, I know that Organic Chemistry 2 Laborary will be really difficult and I will probably end up getting B+ with some trying.. (btw it is 2credits)

So, I was wondering if it would look bad if I decided to take just the ochem2 lab during the summer after I apply next year..

(But I will definitely have Organic Chemistry 2 Lecture (3credits) completed before I apply)

Thanks!

I remember Organic II lab and found it fascinating. The only thing is that you literally have to wait hours at a time for your products to form. So, really Organic II lab is time consuming. I'm not sure about the time frame you're needing to take it, but I know the dental schools want 8 semester hours of Organic I + Organic II and both labs.

Le sigh... the school I'm at doesn't offer orgo lab II and now I am confused. Also, the Orgo lecture II is totally filled up for next semester and I probably wont be able to take it. Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise though, because honestly, I was thinking of doing the same thing as you. 😀

So.. can i take orgo2 lab after I apply??

it wouldn't effect getting into dental schools?

I got 4 interviews and 3 acceptances so far and they dont even have my grades for orgo 1 or 2 yet! (lab+lec)
I took them over summer...

So i guess not?

oh wow.. so you applied... then you took the orgo 1 and 2??

So you basically put down that you will be taking orgo 1 and 2 during summer on the application?

How were your stats?? your DAT/GPA/EC?

were they good?

I'm kind of excited for the fact that i don't necessarily have to take orgo2 lab during next summer after I apply..

That saves me so much time...

Click on my predents it tells all.

But i must warn you that i got complemented at all my interviews for either my Letters of Rec and/or Personal statement so that might be the reason they overlooked it....Jus lettin you know

I applied, still needing chem II, orgo I and II, both labs, micro, biochem, psych, english, and another biology...and I got in.

so you mean.. you didn't take any of those classes before you applied..
and you still got in?

How were your DAT/GPA?

Acetone ice baths do the trick for recrystallization procedures. 😀

?

Just apply air from an air pump on the glass and it willl recrystallize! 😀

Acetone water baths are much cooler because acetone evaporates much quicker than water.

Wait, I assume this air pump pumps out cold air?

The goal is to lower the temperature to decrease the solubility so that crystals form.

Yes indeed.

Well acetone ice bath seem kinda wasteful? Both work

Yeah, I am still working on getting a few of those finished this winter term. Granted, I already have a mech eng. degree. You don't need to have those pre-req's completed before you apply...you just need to be able to finish them before the start of you D1 term.
You can see my stats on pre-dents...I think there's a link under my username on here.
