Who took theirs all ready ? Or who is preparing for theirs ?

I just had mine today, I got mentally raped. There was a synthesis that I could not get for the life of me because of the limited parameters. I'll post the problem up later maybe.

I have to say though, I am going to miss this class, it was fun while it lasted. I wish I had this much fun during OrgoI. The sad thing about taking your OrgoII final is knowing no other class/class work will ever be like this.

nice english skillz

Got a 60% on the final. Class average was a 55%. My overall curved grade for the course was a B. Thank Christ I am done with that class forever.

I can't believe it. I am sitting at a 87% for the class (A>88%), So that means I need to Rock the final. I don't know how I did it considering I got a C in gen chem 1 and 2, and a B in Orgo I (and no I am not trolling). the next four days are gonna suck since I gotta split up my time for Orgo and Cell Bio plus I gotta work on Sunday (can't take off). My weakness is Amines, Esters (specifically Aldol and Clasien compounds), if anyones has any suggestions I'm all ears

Hey, I am in the same boat. C's in Gen Chems. B in OrgoI worked my behind of for OrgoII. I did real well on the first exam, low 90s but a 85 is a an A, and on the second 84, so my average at that point was at an A, now I had to do well on the final to maintain my A. I hope I pulled it off, some of the concept problems on carbs were tough.

For esters, Aldol, and Claisen, you need to understand alpha hydrogens real well, you need to make sure you understand the basics about it. Then you need to just practice it, I suggest you do the chapter from Orgo as a Second Language II on it. And then your text book problems.

Amines was one of the toughest chapters for me. It was covered with a lot of reactions. I figured I needed a way to compartmentalize every reaction in that chapter. So I did that by going to through the chapter and grouped the reactions as primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary. That method helped me alot, I would look at a problem and say to my self "I need to make a X structure" or some variation of it.

You also need to make sure you understand base properties of amines, and acid properties as well, review those. Good luck on your finals.

On a side note, I'd like to point out the NMR was ridiculous! In OrgoI I was able to read them, but in OrgoII I have never gotten 1 NMR right. LOL needless to say on the final I got it wrong also 🙄

I am going to walk into my final with a 99.02% raw score. I finally got the hang of things. My CHM grades are B,B+ and A- (Gen CHMs, Orgo I). Our final will have 1/4 of its questions on biochm topics (epimers, glycosides, steroids etc.) Congrats to all of us that are graduating from "chm"! I have been in chm since HS and after orgo, I will only be taking bio courses (biochm does not count lol).

Just had my Organic II final today. Hopefully a B+ if things went well. I enjoyed the class at times, but honestly I'm just glad it's done.

Organic I was really fun, but Organic II was just a bunch of reactions having to be memorized and re-memorized for each exam. Yup, very glad to be finished with it. 😎

Though I kind of want to try advance O-chem...now O_O

Woah 99.02%. Nice job. I missed a perfect score on my first exam by 3 questions, 2 concepts questions, 1 nmr. But that is beast, have you calculated what you need to get on the final to get an A ? And your other CHM grades are great also.

I had my Ochem 2 final earlier this week.

No curve.... which makes me ask myself:

Mine's a week from today. ACS exam + questions the teacher made for us. Studying from the ACS book right now. So far it's cake with a few things here or there I forget. At a B+ right now so I need to rock this.

I'm so jelly you can't even imagine. My orgo II final is next Wednesday and I'm absolutely terrified. I have two 60's on exams where the class average was mid 30's, but my professor has a ******ed grading scheme and said flat out he fails anyone with below a 40. How the **** do you fail people whose score is the freaking mean?! The good thing is that we can replace our exam scores with our final exam score if it's better, and he usually takes most of the questions from the old exams and homeworks.

Yea, my professor was an ass too. At the beginning of the semester he said he aims to weed out at least 30% of the class. Needless to say, by mid-semester about 50% of the class dropped.

In other news, I bet you'll do great. Once you rock your exam, be sure to resurrect this thread with the smug smiley.

MEE TO! I was thinking in my last year about taking the Advanced Orgo class, but its a Grad Level Course, and I'd have to get special permission. Who knows maybe I might end up taking it. I wonder what type of stuff we'll learn!

That's pretty awesome, ours isn't Grad level but i'd kind of be interested in trying something that advanced.
A lot O-Chem II which I did not like was that many of the reactions we needed to know for exams weren't explained. A lot of the reactions had to be memorized because their mechanisms were beyond the scope of the class.
Hopefully something like advance O-Chem would put it all together.

Liked the subject, but did not like the way it was taught this semester. :meanie:

I was thinking of taking intermediate organic or medical chem but I don't want to get owned. Sometimes I hate being a premed because their are a lot of upper level/grad school courses we could take and get solid B's but they would hurt our GPA. I think I will take med chem though.

Anyone else here take the ACS standard organic chemistry final? That was a beast. I took it last year and got 65% or something. (The average was maybe 55%?)

How is that sad? I finished mine last week and I couldn't be happier.

I took that. My curved grade was a 96% but I have no idea what my raw score was.

That test freaked me out, but I think studying ACS's packet helped tremendously. 👍

Definitely. Best $25 I ever spent.

I'm so jelly. I went into the final with an A-, got 10% above average on the final, and finished with a B. :bullcrap:

Yeah, it kind of sucks that I'll never have another class where not studying for an exam will get me the same grade as studying for an exam - a 60-70%.

Definitely. Best $25 I ever spent.

The way I got mine was the weirdest thing. I just got through talking to my friend about it and had went to Starbucks to get coffee. As I was sitting there, a guy I've seen like once looks at me, asks me if I am me, then hands me this packet and says "here, I heard you needed this" and walked off. :ninja:

It was pretty fantastic. 😀

Doesn't everyone take the ACS organic chem final? If so, I doubt anyone could score a 96% on that unless pure luck was involved. I remember taking that thing. Who ever forgets the first time they lose their anal virginity? That thing relentlessly butt-f*cked the crap out of me. Not that I was any sort of stud in ochem, but I did OK enough in the class to scrape an A and I think I scored in the 60s on it iirc. Lots of stuff on it that we never covered. SO GLAD ochem is over.

For the people that have curved grades that boost you from more than 5 points consider yourselves lucky. Only thing my chem dept. does is make the A grade in the range of 85+ needless to say its still not an easy feat getting an A. I've seen exams that have 16's 15's and 30's on them...I cant believe people actually scored that low.

Took the ACS final last Wednesday... no idea what my raw score was but I ended with a B+ in the class with an 89 going into the final so I don't have too much to complain about, I'm assuming it got the **** curved out of it. That was easily the hardest test I've ever taken in my life, I flat out guessed on about 20/70 of the questions.

Stud!

You're going to do great in med school.

Took it last week, absolutely no idea what I got, but I do know two things:

1. It was greater than a 71% (what I needed for a B)

2. It was not greater than 110% (what I needed for an A)

Definitely. Best $25 I ever spent.
👍

Would have been nice if the ACS final was treated as a AP credit, like pass it and get credit for both Orgo 1 and 2. The booklet was more useful than the two semesters of orgo.

Actually the first semester was awesome, I used ratemyprofessor.com 😀

Second semester I got a Powerpoint clicker.... Thanks, best money I ever spent, to stare at powerpoints. :| (Registered late, so ratemyprofessor.com did not help 🙁)

I haven't started studying for the MCAT, but from what I've read there's very little ochem on it.
That's not cool. I mean, I guess it's good from the test-taker perspective. But in terms of the amount of information you absorb in ochem compared to gen, the **** deserves more importance.

Right now I'm sitting on an A-.

I just calculated what I'd need to make an A (we have a pre-set curve), and I'm going to need a 94, which is higher than what I've done on any of the tests so far this semester. To lose the A-, I have to worse than a 74.

My options are:
1) Study my a** off the next two days and try (possibly in vain) for the A
2) Study a little bit and likely maintain the A-

I think I'm going to go with #2.

No kidding. After studying for the ACS final I feel like I could just spit off O-chem at 100 mph.

T minus 13 hours and 20 minutes till Orgo Final. 8am sharp...fml

Ochem is overrated...wait until inorganic. MO diagrams will blow your mind...
