What would happen if you reacted PBr3 or SOCl2 with Methanol or a Tertiary Alcohol? No reaction?

Also, is the reaction between a 1* or 2* Alcohol and PBr3 considered Sn2?

And, is the reaction between a 1* or 2* Alcohol and SOCl2 considered Sn1?

Always SN2 I believe. I think it won't react with tertiary alcohols but will with Methanol.
