On EK p. 34, it says that alkenes are no longer on the MCAT, and that it's just providing a discussion on them for useful background info. Then it goes on to talk about dehydrohalogenation, catalytic hydrogenation, ozonolysis, markovnikov's rule, oxymercuaration, hydroboration, and halogenation of alkenes. I notice that the Kaplan book also covers many of these topics. So: are these important topics to know, or not? In other words, where (if anywhere) in this list of topics do we cross from "useful background info" into essential info?
Also, are aromatics/benzene still on the MCAT, or no?
Thanks,
Pemulis
