whats a beto keto acid and what do we have to know about them?

Members don't see this ad.

a beta keto acid is an acid that is in the beta position from a ketone group. They decarboxylate under heat. Thats the gist.

CH3-.....-CH2- CH2- CH2- CH2- CH2- COOH
Omega....epsilon-delta-gamma-beta-alpha-COOH
C6 C5 C4 C3 C2 C1

Using Greek alphabet and Numbers.
Carbon 1 is the one with the carboxyl group
Carbon alpha is carbon 2 (and then follow the greek alphabet)
In case you need it , the last carbon is always Omega, the last letter of the greek alphabet (May be you know this quote: "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end...")
