I've been having trouble finding a lot of information about this career, as for as statstics goes. I'm very interested in this field. Does anyone have first hand information? Hows the job growth? Are they in need? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

    Orthoptists don't perform vision therapy.

Orthoptists are pretty rare but they are highly in demand. In this career you're usually better off in a more populated area. The one I know is hired by multiple different practices because there are so few in this geographic location.

I work as a tech in ophthalmology at a university hospital. We have orthoptists in our clinic, and they're held in very high regards by he physicians. Techs here range from $38-52k a year, and orthoptists make substantially more. This is because they perform a very specific type of exam - called a sensorimotor exam - and this can be billed separately. It is definitely a very specialized field, which means you will probably only work at universities in bigger cities.
